Rule: If a player performs worse than his CY2019 performance, he benefits from the new ranking system

1) Novak Djokovic-Did not benefit

- Won Cincy (CY2019-SF)
- USO 4R (CY2019-4R)
- Won Rome (CY2019-F)
- RG SF* (CY2019 SF) *ongoing tournament
- Lost 24 weeks due to Ranking freeze (Fair enough)

2) Rafael Nadal-Did benefit
- Skipped USO (CY2019-Won)
- Rome QF (CY 2019-Won)

3) Dominic Thiem-Did benefit
- Skipped Kitzbuhel* (CY2019 Won) *couldn't have entered the draw because of USO
- Won USO* (CY2019- 1R) *Did not benefit form this
- Skipped Hamburg (CY2019-QF)
- RG QF (CY2019-F)

4) Roger Federer-Did Benefit
- Skipped entire post AO season due to injury, still gets to be in the TOP 4; crucial for getting a good draw at AO2021
- Got to keep his weeks record for a longer duration of time

5) Dannil Medvedev-Did Benefit
- Cincy QF (CY2019-Won)
- USO SF(CY2019-F)

Despite everything, Novak is on his way to a record tying 6th YE#1, a very well deserved one given the circumstances!

So points from 2019 are not coming off before 2021 season? That's nuts.
Yeah, he has a gigantic amount of points to defend in 2021, given the cumulative of both 2020 and 2019 will be considered. He won new tournaments this year. Highly likely that he loses his No.1 spot next year :X3:

Anyhow, the aim is 311, once that is reached everything else is just gravy

Well, I wasn't worried about his greater cumulative. He basically doesn't need it. But letting Federer keep his 2019 for AO 2021 will mess up the draw.

He wouldn't play anyway, shouldn't have get to his points. Not only him, but everyone that was in same position, shouldn't ofc.

.

It actually helps him to keep Nr.1. Since when is winning tournaments making you more likely to lose nr.1. He will likely keep it easier in the first half of the year with those points from the 2nd half. In the end of the season it will matter how he performed in 2021.

Point-wise, Djokovic is the biggest beneficiary of the point-freeze system. But sure, tell yourself the opposite if this helps you sleep at night.

Due to "New Ranking System", Novak got to keep 180 points he earned by reaching 4R at USO 2019.
He got 0 points for the USO 2020, due to default.
He also got to keep 2000 points he earned by winning Wimbledon 2019.
All others got less points from Wimbledon 2019.

Nadal gets to keep 2000 points he earned by winning USO 2019.
Nadal had no reason (point-wise) to play USO, Rome or RG this year.

The more you won last year, the more you benefit potentially from the new system.
Whoever was the No.1 (the one who won the most points in the last year) would benefit the most only if he decided to not play tennis for a year (as the No.1 player on WTA did).
Novak choose to earn all those points again so he will not benefit as much as he could.

311 would never be a matched achievement when taking into consideration he had to top Roger and Rafa for the whole duration of his career and we will never have 3 greats of that magnitude playing at the same time again.
