Djokovic is now older slam champ than anyone except Federer and Rosewall in Open era.

Not only is Djokovic the older champ, he is also older champ at every slam vs everyone except Federer and Rosewall.

At Australian Open, Djokovic won a title at 35 years and 7 months. That means he is older than anyone not named Federer and Rosewall.

At French open, he is the oldest champion ever at 36 years.

At Wimbledon, Djokovic won a title at 35 years 1 month, meaning only Federer is ahead of him.

At US Open, he is the oldest champion at 36 years 3 months.

Rosewall won 2 Australian open titles after this age. His competition was much worse than Djokovic's competition now.
Federer won Wimbledon just few short months before he turned 36. Nole is 36 already.
USOpen and Wimbledon it's unprecedented already.

If Nole is to win any new slam, he will probably set new records. Even at Australian open, he would be almost the oldest winner and Rosewall competition was not even peak.

What this tells us?

I think Djokovic is about to win 2/3 more slams before he retires meaning he would definitely defy history once more. Can anyone see him winning RG at 37 years age? Can you see Nadal taking the throne back in 2023? If Nadal wins it, he would probably be gold standard for longevity as well since no player has won a slam at 38 years of age.

The race is on between Djokovic Rosewall and Nadal to see who ends the career being the oldest grand slam champion. It's just insane to think that Djokovic won a CGS between age 35 to 36 when only Federer/Rosewall and Nadal ever even won a slam past this age. A full set of career grand slam folks.

Agree Novak could well win 2-3 more slams, possibly more as I see him competing for the biggest titles up until he is 40.

For me Nadal could well win RG again depending on his injury recovery and if that happens at 38 ... unbelievable given the physicality of the clay. 2024 will be his last year though, so Novak with more chance or being the oldest slam holder.

If Nadal somehow is able to compete at top level, he will be hard to beat in RG. And if he wins RG 2024, I think it would be really great achievement in tennis history.

Just a good word for Ken Rosewall, as I think that his longevity was amazing. A short, slightly built guy who played a zillion matches in all kinds of conditions (and without the benefit of today's sports medicine) winning an OE major at 37-and-change shouldn't be minimized, no matter who he defeated.
Of course not. Rosewall longetivity is insane. His slam final in his 39th year is something very hard to break as well.

its come to this now?
"Novak now holds the record for _____, with the exception of these other players above him lol"

In any case, the true record is held by Bill Tilden, 1930 Wimbledon champion (128 participants) at the age of 37 years and almost five months.
Federer was one point away from surpassing him in longevity but...

Rosewall's 71 AO competition was very tough. When Rosewall won his slams ages 33-37 there were no injury times out, toilet breaks, coaching, advanced sports medicine, special or medical drinks extra time between points and change overs, ice packs etc.. IMO, Rosewall's 37 is today's 30. That does not take away from the great 30's achievements of Novak, Nadal and Federer.

I think you meant to write that Rosewall's 37 is today's 40...45?

Federer should have won one at almost 39 after outplaying Rafito/Djoko back to back (while Djoko played Agut in a SF), but threw it away.

Roger would have had the record of the oldest Grand Slam champion ever with 37y 11m. Not bad for a weak era merchant, right?!
Not bad at all. In 2019 he ended the year at world number 3 ahead of Thiem I think.

Roger made to RG semis, almost won Wimbledon , won Miami, made finals of IW, won Basel, won Stuttgart and I think also won Shanghai.

Roger at his 38th year almost did as good as Alcaraz last year. Maybe this year's alcaraz is just a bit better than 38 year old Roger.
