Djokovic isn't going to retire

I like how this thread is actually about Nadal and a tournament at his academy, but using Djokovic's name to make sure it's legit on GPPD.

@clayqueen handling business. :cool:
That's not the case. It suddenly occurred to me that no one has ever asked Djokovic about his retirement plans, and he doesn't seem to have any. Even his fans doubt that he will beat Sinneraz again. However, I don't buy that. Rafa was asked long before the RNA was thought of, and everyone knew Roger would just be prancing about, living on being elegant. Thanks to the relentless marketing he got from the establishment that he's the greatest — not! Roger also started the Laver Cup. I've not heard of any of Djokovic's retirement plans.

The RNA tournament video was just handy.

"When the US Open asked Djokovic about his retirement plans, he said, "My plans after I retire from tennis are to coach Fonseca. "I will be very expensive for him, so be ready." 25 Aug 2025

That might be a very short career. Sounds like he has no plans.

I feel Federer and Nadal threads should be allowed on GPPD as long as Djokovic does not retire from pro tennis.

They should be connected together in TTW and once they are all retired, they move to FPPT

Rules are the rules, Fedal belongs to history. tTW will be ruled by Sinner once Novak retires

The change has to be organic, artificially creating it is useless.

Sinner does not have enough fanatics like Federer had in his peak. Not even a fraction. Federer had an army of 1000s people like you and dking roaming around. That was the power of Federer. It cannot be replicated. EVen Nadal had more fanatics than Sinner or Alcie today.

Rafa had far more followers on social media and real fans than Federer.

If Djokovic enjoys the competing and doesn't mind carrying on until he declines to first week major losses regularly, he can carry on for another 5 years probably.

He's already complaining of back pain, and his age is affecting his performance.

Federer dwarfs Nadal in popularity

Social media followers dont mean much, in general Federer has far more fans.
What proof do you have? Oh, the Fans' Favourite Award, which everyone now recognises as a scam, with Sinner winning it. Federer was instantly forgotten when he retired.

Well , you need to have a look at social media like Twitter where Fed is as good as forgotten and talk is about Sinner mostly, give it time Fade away like Pete fans soon.

Who says Federer is forgotten ?

We dont need any proof, we know what is the reality with people around us talking of Federer even now.

One year after Federer retired, one of his so-called diehard fans was looking forward to watching him at Wimbledon, totally oblivious to the fact that he had retired. Casual tennis fans all say they are Federer fans because of the institutionalised marketing of him as the greatest, long after his glory days were over, from as far back as 2008.

During 2003-07 era media, commentators lied to fans that Fed was unbeatable, was mythical goat and fans believed it, not for once they doubted competition Fed was beating , this myth was broken by two men

Many Federer fans are just camp followers because they are told he is the greatest. I know a few of them. Some are convinced that Federer let Murray win the OG Medal at the London Olympics because it was his home tournament and refused to accept that Murray could beat Federer.

Possuming begins

Alcaraz so alpha he doesn’t need to possum.

Better than Roger who went from alpha to third wheel as far as his attitude goes, he used to have an aura in 00s and he used to be kingly, as he retired he started praising Nadal and Djoko a lot, the way he praises Nadal is actually beta behaviour. Some might say Federer became more humble but I see it in the same way as you do for Novak vs Alcaraz-Sinner. At least Djokovic still knows he holds the slams record, so he has that confidence in him but damn right he is playing possum, he has to, no other way.
Nadal has twice as many Instagram followers as Fed , where are those Fed fans ? Or Fed belonged to 80s generation whose fans don’t use social media??lol

Federer will be more remembered than Nadal, thats for sure.

Plenty of Fed fans dont use social media. Most Fed fans are the ones born in 70s/80s/90s, the crowd born in 2000s are a bit inclined towards Nadal/Djoko and extremely inclined towards Sinner/Alcie.

Nadal appeals more to outsiders, eccentrics and rebels compared to Federer.

Nadal appeals a lot to people who like brute power and athleticism being imposed... that kind of crowd like Nadal.

Unfortunately, tennis fans who don't follow tennis still think Federer was unbeatable when he retired. They believe he was the perfect gentleman who never did anything wrong, like cheat (unnecessary toilet break and MTOs), swear, or smash a racquet.

Not sure what Murray is up to either.
I was kind of stunned when he went out so soon with Novak...assumed his wife wouldn't like that, would want him finally at home to help with the kids, but I guess she was fine with him being back on the road...for a bit at least...maybe she knew it wouldn't last...Murray's definitely going to be involved in sport in some way though...no way he retires peacefully to gardening at home

He's already complaining of back pain, and his age is affecting his performance.
yeah, I don't see him making 5 more years. maybe one year. He's done well so far at USO, but he's not running on a full tank of gas, IMHO. Carlitos will most likely take him out in the SF.

I like Fed, but prefer Nadal. Guess I'm a rebel...I have an anti-authoritarianism streak...guess that's why I enjoyed connors and mac and nasty.

There is nothing anti authoritarian about Rafa though. He’s like a conservative Spanish monarchist. He just had the look and I guess that was enough for most people

Why does he owe to anyone, to notify them of his retirement plans?
Actually, why does one even need to have meaningful retirement plans, when independently wealthy? He could just live the life...

(y)

Rafael Nadal plays tennis like a working class person. Toni even told him "Someone made your racquet in a factory. Don't disrespect them by smashing a racquet."

Is he conservative? I know he is friends with the Spanish royals, but he clearly likes diplomacy, so the Trump style doesn't appeal to him at all. I've also heard him object to bad government policies on occasion that cause people hardship and social strife, and to that end he opposed Catalan separation, believing Catalonia to be an integral part of Spain. Also, Rafael Nadal is an agnostic, not like the traditional religious Spanish right and Francoists who viewed irreligion as "godlessness evil". Toni Nadal is an atheist.
