No hate - just plain facts

Not to mention the 2006 joke field

Novak Djokovic is already feeling the pressure as the clay court season commences.

His trembling fear of the crushed red brick of Philippe Chatrier becomes ever more apparent on a daily basis.

He shall not complete the Career Grand Slam, and shall remain well shy of the GOAThood for which he so desperately yearns.

He lost fair and square. But it was a long time coming, crazy that he managed to keep making finals the way he did. I certainly thought he was going to have a bad IW Miami campaign to previous years. He is overcooked and the three weeks off will help. But he lost because on the day the other guy was better.

Novak may want to skip more than 1 masters this year. Let's see which one he will drop. Maybe Montreal or Cincy. Or both. This loss is okay.

I hope he skips Madrid, I think he'd be fine with Rome right before RG and come in super fresh, guns blazing.

Madrid isn't at all similar to RG and plays rather uniquely, ball flies thru the air at the latitude.

Thing is it would mean a month with no competitive play, not sure if he wants to do that.

Don't think he "needs time" to get adjusted to the surface more than 1 masters though. Consider he often plays no leadups to Wimbledon.

Hardly.

In 2006, Federer lost only to Nadal (x4) and Murray - both would become multiple slam champs.

Novak Djokovic lost to a nobody yesterday. His 2016 is already shaping up to be less impressive than Fed's 2006.

More proof Novak lost on purpouse.

And btw, Novak already beat Federers 2006 last year, winning 2 more masters tournaments then him. And yes, Fed won 1 tournament overall, but lets face it, nobody cares about him winning bunch of 250 series little tourneys. So no worry there.

Novak doesnt give a crap about winning 1 more masters. His goal is to win RG, and possibly a golden slam.

Novak is complete player thats why he doesn't need to adapt much for surfaces or play leadups but he should play Madrid as to get some top 15 wins and then cruise in Rome.

That's my opinion of course....

Novak statement after the loss for Serbian newspapers (source b92 portal)

"The last week of training was good in a sense that I've felt the ball the way I should, but I didn't feel fresh the whole time. I work hard every day, but defeat had to come sooner or later. Everything happens for a reason, and now I'll have a pause that I'm looking forward to. I need rest, physically and mentally."

Novak loss reminds me when Roger Federer lost to Andy Murray in 2nd round Cincinnati back in 2006, right after he won Canada masters. 2006 is probably Rogers best year and one of the best years in tennis history. I think back then Roger just wanted to take a break, just like Novak right now, especially since he will play in Madrid.

He probably had some agreement with people in Monte Carlo since its his home tournament.

I agree that Novak is focused on FO preparation. Maybe he is tired of these Masters 1000 tournaments. What incentive does he have to win them? His lead in points is monumental. He is already the Masters 1000 GOAT. His focus needs to be on winning the FO, by whatever means necessary.

He probably just went into the tournament pro forma and was not necessarily expecting/hoping to win.

He was worrying about his restaurant of course.
Djok went on court to win. It just didn't happen - clay acclimatization process caught him out imo.
Murray struggled in his match yesterday too. Murray played much better today.
Had Djok got through you'd prob have seen the same thing.

I bet his wife and child are there, oh wait he lives in MC......

Family distraction maybe? Idk but I'm sure he didn't "purposely tank" the match. I have a 10 week old baby and I guarantee if I had just been sweeping the March masters without my wife and child with me and the next tournament I played was at home, my priorities would get mixed up. Mind you I am not pro or claiming to be but I am a new father and that has the capability to cloud your mind. He fought he lost and I bet he could care less right now. Spending time with Sebastian, which he is long overdue for.

This era is so weak Novak has to make competition for himself by purposely losing. :D

Or - and I know this will be a tough one to get your head round - it could be that he wanted to win but was beaten by the better player on the day?

Yeah calling somebody a nobody is pretty strong. I believe the top players use the term "journeymen" for unseeded, unknown players.

Djokovic drunk on victory considering how much he won, needed a nap. He will be ready for Paris.

Novak played flat and uninterested, and also lighthearted and easy.
he didn't care.
Vesley played great but a normal Novak would have beaten him if he needed to.
plain and simple.

Damn right. Novak is undefeated in matches he needed to win. Just like Rafa is undefeated in matches where he was uninjured and Roger is undefeated in matches where he was 'peak'.

I meant that it seemed it didnt matter to him and he definitely played far below his level, with Vesley or without him.

****** has a nice plan…let Rafa use expend all of his energy beating everyone else and then he'll be easy to defeat at RG.

Classic Siamese fighting fish strategy.

Why would Joker tank the first clay court tourney and let the king of clay gain confidence?

Wouldn't it be more ideal to give it all and play Rafa in the finals of first clay court tourney; beat him convincingly and let Rafa know that he stills own him?

It wont take much for Rafa to gain momentum now and it looks like he is on his way to another MC.

If Joker really needed a break, would that mean that the physicality of past 2 years is perhaps taking a toll and debunk the theory of "how fit he is"

Djoker just won back to back 1000s with basically no break in-between. Losing early at MC is only gonna let him play better the rest of the clay season...thats why he looked like he couldn't care less about losing to Vesely.

I dont think he would have allegedly tanked this if it was a hard court tourney

I think Novak would rather loose to 150th then top 10 player if he had to choose. Also him loosing in the first round (more time to rest), rather then loosing in semis or finals, proves it he wanted to loose.
