Djokovic-Nadal in 4 straight Slam finals

From 2011 Wimbledon to 2012 Roland Garros Djokovic and Nadal played 4 consecutive Slam finals.

No other rivalry in tennis history did it.

In the Open Era the other rivalries played 2
consecutive Slam finals at best.

Connors-Rosewall --> 2
Borg-Connors --> 2
Borg-McEnroe --> 2
Edberg-Courier --> 2
Federer-Nadal --> 2
Djokovic-Murray --> 2
Federer-Djokovic --> 2

They also did it by beating in the semifinals 3 times each Federer (UO11, AO12, RG12) and Murray (WI11, UO11, AO12).

This is not talked about often but it's very impressive.

aaah, the story of how Nadal almost lost to Djokovic at 4 consecutive GSs, only to get saved by RG again. Shame.

That was some stretch for Nole; final after final that season keeping Nadal from having 2 consecutive "monster" years! Nadal dropped 7 straight to Djokovic including 3 major finals; Wim'11, USO '11, then '12 AO! I couldn't have been more satisfied! :unsure:

This was at the height of their rivalry. This is during one of the periods in which Nadal was making finals on all surfaces, hence it was possible. Fortunately for Nadal, he was able to reassert himself on his home turf to stop Djokovic from winning a NCYGS against him.

Fedal came close to this in 2008-9, only missing the US Open final. Nadal was tired and Murray played well, so Nadal didn't manage to make it

Wish Djokovic gave him a Roland Garros 5th set scare at least, like Med did this year in New York. But it's the usual story, on those rare occasions when you think someone has a chance, Nadal gets back in control.

Novak Djokovic, at the height of his powers and ambitions, was trying to achieve his first NCYGS. Novak Djokovic had won the last 3 Slams in a row. Novak was a man on a mission. No human could stop that intimidating version of Novak. Federer tried but lost in 3 sets in the 2012 RG SF. Only the God of clay could succeed here. Nadal, the emperor of clay, proved again why he is the most dominant tennis player ever on a surface. He, and only he, could stop Djokovic from achieving the NCGYS in 2012. Impressive.

It's talked about! I mean as much as anything is talked about that doesn't relate to who is GOAT.

Not only did they play 4 in a row, but obviously by extension they became the first pair to meet in all 4 slam finals I'm pretty sure. Murray and Novak soon followed suit.

And Nadal narrowly escaped becoming the first man in history to lose 4 consecutive major finals o_O

Nadal leads the H2H over Djokovic in 9-6 Slams (including 2-1 at the US Open). So Djokovic did not "own" Nadal during his career.

But since you are just trolling, I will do the same. Nadal owned Djokovic in Slams. Kyrgios owned Djokovic. Tsitsipas owned Djokovic. Medvedev is starting to own Djokovic.

You need new glasses. Nadal did not "narrowly" escape. He played like an emperor in the RG 2012 final. Djokovic had no chance. Nadal combined the incredible speed of his youth with an aggresive shot-making. 2012 Nadal is one of the best performances he has ever had in a RG final. He was untouchable that day, not "narrowly scaping".

Except on clay. And a friendly match in Colombia 2011, on hard courts, which Nadal won. But yes, on hard and grass overall Djokovic was "owning" Nadal in 2011-2012.
To be fair, Djokovic owns Nadal big time on hardcourts and grass ever since 2011.Nadal's only 2 wins came in 2013 Canada and USO.

Actually he had a bit of domination even with Nadal on clay, beating him in straight sets in the 2011 Madrid and Rome finals.

To be fair, 2011 is not when tennis started. Nadal is 2-2 against Djokovic on grass and leads the H2H over Djokovic at the US Open. Anyhow, Djokovic leading the H2H over Nadal on hard courts is to be expected, as Djokovic is basically the hard court co-GOAT with Federer.

The match was played over 2 days, and at the end of the first one he was not untouchable. Granted, if the weather never turns he more than likely wins the match in straight sets, but it did turn, and he was down a break in the fourth, a set and a half away from losing 4 finals in a row. The fact that he was badass enough to come out the next day and finish the match without breaking sweat does not change the existence of the predicament he found himself in on the Sunday.

Your analysis is incompatible with truth. Djokovic only won 1 set. The match did not even reach 5 sets, and you are saying Nadal almost lost. What will be next? Djokovic "almost lost" the Wimbledon 2011 final because Nadal won 1 set? You have a lot of imagination, you would be a great fantasy writer.

And you're a shrine worshipping lunatic who gives a bad name to level headed Nadal fans. The guy was down a break in the 4th when play was halted. He was literally one more break of serve away from losing 4 major finals in a row. I didn't say he almost lost the match, I was pointing out that in the wider context of 4 consecutive major finals he got pretty close to the edge.

Haha you are a Nadal hater calling himself a Nadal fan. I am sorry but Nadal won in 4 sets the RG 2012 final, Djokovic only won 1 set. Nadal was not close to lose the final. That is like saying that Djokovic "almost lost" the Wimbledon 2011 final because Nadal won 1 set.

From AO 2011 to AO 2012, where within that time frame Djokovic and Nadal played in 4 straight finals, Djokovic did own all the big 4 and the field. I have no idea what Tsits, Kyrgios or Medvedev have to do with this who lead or are close in the head to head but never beat Djokovic in a Slam.

I wouldn't say he owned Nadal on clay since Nadal was 3-2 over him but Djokovic went 7-3 in that time frame, and 3-1 in Slam finals. I wouldn't even say he owned Federer on clay even though he was 2-1 was against him but that 6-1 record he had against him in that time frame and 3-1 in Slams is something else entirely. That means he was 13-4 against Fedal during that run and 4-2 against Murray but you don't think he owned the entire field? Hard to argue otherwise.

Outside clay, overall, and excluding some minor losses, yes he owned the field those days.

And peak Djokovic lost to Rafa at 2010 US Open and 2013 US Open.
Rafa leads their h2h 2-1 at the US Open :)
Also during that era, they only met once at the AO and it took 6 hours for Djokovic to win!

How people can at this point legitimately argue Fedal over Novadal is beyond me.

15 Slam meetings
28 Masters meetings
5 WTF meetings

And close H2H.

Legendary French Open match.
Legendary Wimbledon match.
Legendary Australian match.

And you still got that 4 hour match at 2009 Madrid.

Numbers aside, for me Fedal is more fun to watch because of their contrasting styles.

They had the higher peak years though. Nothing beats 2006-2009 in the Fedal rivalry.

There's really only been 2 legendary Slam matches though. 08 & 17.

2005 AO, 2007 WMB were anti-climactic 5th sets.

By contrast Novak & Fed have 4 such matches but Novak won all of them.
All four were legendary in their own way. AO 2009 is actually my favorite match in terms of shotmaking quality.

Got to love nonsense like this. Nadal was 9-0 V Djokovic on clay up till 2011 and then Djokovic wins 2 matches and suddenly hes a match for Nadal on clay LOL

No one mentions that Nadal won the next 3 on clay, or 4 out of the next 5. Its always that Djokovic somehow had Nadals number on clay, which outwith 2 wins in 2011, he dpne nothing v Nadal on clay.

2015-16 Nadal was in his worst form ever seen, and this is also seemingly adding to this myth that Djokovic can compete on clay with Nadal, all cos of THAT RG win LOL

17-6 clay H2H I believe it is in Nadals favour. That's nearly 2/3 of clay matches Nadal has won.
