Djokovic needs a hug

Ok I get it.

But just because he needs one doesn't mean everyone else does. So he asked for people after his final to feel the love and hug the person next to them. It was almost uncomfortable to watch, and I could see the crowd felt the same.

Why? Is he that desperate to try and build a connection to the crowd?

Anyway just thought I'd mention it. I'm off to hug the person next to me ;)

If I was him I wouldn't bother. Ridiculously successful tennis player. He has nothing to prove to anyone. If tennis fans can't appreciate him as a player regardless of whether they like him or not then change sports, tennis isn't for you. I am not a fan of Djokovic, nor Nadal nor Federer but what they have managed to achieve is extraordinary.

...who is the real Novak?
It's the same guy who was once fighting the greatest ones, but is now routinely doing his everyday job. In lack of challenges and excitement, he's probably found his peace in yoga and is actively choosing curtains for his retirement retreat....

Is it possible that Boris has passed on his cring-ness to Novak...cause Boris is kind of cool again these days....

These people suck. They have no fun.
You don't think it cringe worthy? Or funny? My reaction would be same if any player did this. Wouldn't start a thread but not complaining...

Reminds me when he brought that little girl to sing at one of his press conferences lol....

Novak's all good though. Just a bit of a dork like Fed.

Maybe Jelena is expecting a girl;)so Novak wants that Ghandy (hippie) vibe around him this time.

Anyway he pissed his detractors once again:cool: Mission accomplished

Honestly, if celebrating with ball kids and asking for people to hug (as it was his plan in case he wins Canada) is awkward/cringeworthy to those who don't like him...

Maybe he should just swear and give the crowd a middle finger. At least that would end Fedfans' "he is desperate for love" theory. :)

I am honestly not a big supporter of these gestures, but saying he is desperate for love is ridiculous. He has millions of fans worldwide. The only thing he always wants more is playing tennis and winning.

He is also very well supported in Canada so even if there was this love seeking campaign Fedfans are talking about it would make no sense to do it there.

Sorry fellow TW user but you're missing the point.

It is also cringe worthy and awkward to those who DO LIKE him!

How do you know that?

So far all (or 95+%) of complaints came from those who don't like him.

Is it harder for Eastern Europeans??? I wonder if there's a bit of an "Ivan Drago Complex" in tennis whereby players from that part of the world (Djokovic, Lendl, Navratilova, etc.), have a tougher time winning over the crowd and until they manage to do that (IF they manage to do that), are seen as androids not worthy of affection.

By looking at all his 'fans' in the crowd. There were so many red faces it was like watching the sun rise in the stadium!
No need for the quotation marks, he was very well supported in the entire tournament.

Could you post the sunrise if there is a source available?

Unnecessary, but not awkward. I never found hugging awkward.

Yeah I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty awkward to watch but at the same time I don't think people should be too hard on him for doing such a thing. There's so much hate in the world these days that any gesture that can help generate love and make people come together can never be a bad thing in my book.

Why are people surprised at what this scumbag does? We're talking about a perennial #3 loser who was so frustrated at being the third wheel of Nadal and Federer, that he decided to "go gluten free" (because some of you are just so adorably gullible) and become a world beater overnight. We're talking about a player who snatches towels from ballboys and throws his racquet more often than any other big 4 player. We're talking about a player who openly defends players suspended for doping, and plays around with blow up dolls at parties when not in the company of his partner. Not to mention the fact that his father is a deluded drunkard (see RG 2012) who keeps the company of prostitutes.

Exactly this. Especially for us Serbian genocidal terrorists

It isn't the act of hugging that's awkward.
What is? I din't see the ceremony.

If asking for the hugging performance part is awkward, I am not going to argue over that, everyone sees things differently. But I guess it's safe to say his intentions were never bad...

I heard that Djokovic hired top PR company to script those celebrations aimed to woo children and, simultaneously, increase blood pressure/induce negative cardiovascular events in those who don't like him. Using such strategy, non-Djokovic fan base decrease while longevity of Djokovic fan-base increase.
