How do you evaluate Nole's performance/level of play in a match against Shapovalov? I didn't have time to watch the whole match, I only saw the 3rd to 9th game of the 3rd set, then I had to go away. To be honest, I expected an easier course of the match.
I will watch the entire match against Medvedev on Saturday, I will have free time for this match. Nole has something to return to Medvedev - loses in Cinci and MC in last year.
Could have played better, especially when serving for the match, although Shapovalov was on fire in some moments. Djokovic struggled to read his serve throughout.

Still I think he will be pleased with his first week of the season. Two tight matches, two cruises plus playing Medvedev, maybe even Nadal, it should prepare him well enough for AO.

Novak definitely needed this win over Med to stop the bleeding. I hope it boosts his confidence with the matchup moving forward.
It definitely will. He knows he took the best from Medvedev in those last two sets and still beat him, and he also knows he was in control even in that second set and let him into the match. I think it was good to stop the bleeding in BO3 where he is the better player for a set and a half and then let them come back and win. I just hope in the future he can serve a bit better.

An interesting topic: what differentiates Medvedev from Murray? And is the former more difficult for Djokovic than the latter? At times last night Djokovic was impatient, pulling the trigger too quickly, something he'd never do during his romp against Andy.

IT does seem to me that Medvedev has a superior capacity for dictating play against Djokovic than Andy did.

This ATPCup win which Serbia is close to can unleash Novak the beast like DC win at the end of 2010 did, another season for the history books. ;) (y) One can hope!

I had to smile at that part where Djokovic is talking about having the best results of his career after he won the Davis Cup, with Nadal in the view. Nadal probably thinking, "...yeah I remember that all too well."

HAHAHAHA...when Djokovic said that I was thinking the same thing. You know Nadal was gritting his teeth and saying “I hope the **** not.”

Cmon Noler you can do it. Hopefully the elbow holds up. Fingers crossed! Fed is nipping at the EMWs heels along with nadal and medvedev. Do not rule stan out. Djokovic can easily turn from world beater into a whipped dog if he faces even a bloated injured and rusty stan.

Novak's draw to 8th AO title.

1st round - Struff
2nd round - Ito or Q
3rd round - Djere / Evans
4th round - Lajovic / Schwartzman
QF - Tsitsipas / Raonic
SF - Federer / Berrettini
F - Nadal / Medvedev

Draw doesn't look too bad. I think Medvedev is the main threat to Novak here, so good that he's on the other side. Tsitsipas could be trouble too.

Earth's Mightiest Warrior has a good draw.
Does he? He has by far the toughest projected quarterfinal opponent and to get to the final he's projected to go through Federer, who has a very easy draw. Medvedev-Federer-Tsitsipas are, in my view, the three toughest opponents for Djokovic to face these days.

Facing Medvedev/Nadal in the final is a blessing for Djoker. He'll be warmed up by then. Getting Tsitsipas in the QFs will be a scary prospect, but I'm sure he'll pull through. As for Federer, I'm doubting that he'll beat Djokovic in a slam semi at the AO.
