Is it just me, or do any of you miss the 2007-2016 Djokovic? Something went terribly wrong after that 2016 FO victory, he hasn't been the same guy.

It just seems he subconsciously attracts turmoil these days, not the Djoker I remember being a fan of. Nothing of this magnitude happened before that eventful RG 2016

Disappointing is an understandment, it just felt surreal watching it live...

But it was the right decision, he deserved to be DQ'd for his actions out there. I just hope he learns from it. Probably the lowest point in his professional career.
I think he should get back to court soon .
He should start practising on clay soon in few days.

If he dwells on this issue , he might not be able to focus at RG.

Don't know why but when Djokovic is full in momentum to go closer to Fedal at slams , the worst thing happens . After RG 2016 , and now this .

I hope he can recover from this and focus on slams now . he is inform . What a mess :cautious:

Good choice of words. Exactly how I felt, surreal, especially with the weirdness that can before. He got what he deserved and unfortunately it probably cost him a slam. I hope he’ll take a lesson away from this and make some adjustments going forward.

The situation sucks, but he only has himself to blame for it. Had he broken serve and taken the first set, none of this would’ve happened. Sad thing is watching him over the years, I always felt something like this would happen, really unfortunate that it happened here where he had a great chance to get #18. Tiebreak streak ended, winning streak ended, chance of equaling Nadal’s four USO ended, just because he hit the ball too high. Now what’s going to happen to YE #1?

Yep, it was coming and it culminated in the last place and the worst time it could have happened. All because he couldn’t reign in his anger.

His throwing hearts celebration needs to come to an end, because just...no. No one’s going to want to catch those hearts after this.

He really a stupid passive game at 5-4 40 love up on Bustas game..I was just thinking it should not come back and bite his ass.

What happens the next game? He injures his shoulder, loses the game and hits the ball woman and out of the tournament..worst thing that could possible happen..

The slow, boring, consistent baseliners do get on his nerves but even if he had lost the set,he would have surely played aggressively and closed out the mach in 4 sets max..

When I heard the woman screaming I thought, this is gone now..irreversible situation..

It was on the cards really..I lost count of number of times he was getting away with hitting the ball..i thought to myself now he is walking on a thin line here.. some day obviously he is going to hit somebody..

Novak is a notch above Feral but he has this habit of stomping on his own feet which Fedal conveniently avoid...

Lol. I can’t help but laugh at this.

Now this would be just a witchhunt if that happens
.he did that as an accident and that's it..He paid his price and he should be allowed to move on..
Right, he’s already been punished. DQ, gave back his winnings, and received zero points for the USO, as if he didn’t even step on court. Anything more is unnecessary and unfair.

I played Cricket with tennis balls for more than 20 years now and saw 1000s of tennis ball cricket matches .

Never saw anyone fall on ground after getting hit by tennis ball . Never.

Noone falls on ground after getting hit by ball at speed 100 km per hour , this was not even 20 km per hour speed . WTF

Also , IF LinesPerson need quick reflexes , why choose 253 year old person for the job ?

I think lines person should be young , who has quick reflexes . People in their 20s and 30s shud be ball kids and lines judge.

Yes. I can't think of that the lineswoman reaction was anything but honest. Sad day for tennis.

Phillip Hughes? There are certain sweetspots throughout human body that don’t need much stimuli to off you and neck is most certainly top of the list. Carotid sinus, vago-vagal syncope...food for thought (and Google).

This is beside the point anyway. You physically insult a referee, game over. Something a 33y old, 17 times GS champion should be aware of more than anyone else.

Nah still his fitness is best in the sport and his all court ability will keep him with regular grand slam chances

I agree! Perhaps hearing that he was the overwhelming favorite to win this USO every day, took a tole on Novak's frame of mind? There are rarely any guarantees in sports and though I was rooting for Novak to win this USO, I was never sure that he would. Also, winning last weeks masters last week and working on his player's association probably took a toll on Novak's attitude and patience. IMO, the best thing Novak should do is get back on court as soon as possible and keep his mind on tennis and not so much on other than family issues.

It was definitely not his intent, but rules gotta apply to everyone. The probability of hitting someone is so less but If it happens you are done
Doesn't matter what side you are on and if you think that DQ should or shouldn't have happened, but please don't spread any more misinformation. The rules are clear that the organisers had a choice to make. They ultimately made the choice, not followed strict rules.

If they had not DQed him, the media would definitely have started a full scale witch hunt saying how he is above the rules and can get away with anything. I understand that according to the rules the DQ could have been avoided, but the USO wanted to make a statement that even the world number 1 can get punished, in this case they happily did it cause it was Novak, a guy they hate so much.

I am myself saying that Decision by US Open to default Djokovic is Correct .

Btw You are talking about Season leather ball , not tennis ball .
Philip Hughes dies because of LEATHER ball .

Tennis ball is soft and cannot make you fall on ground . NEVER

That still doesn't mean that the rule ordered them to do so, as they try to shift the responsibility from their choice as far away from them as possible. They didn't DQ Bedene because they wanted to avoid controversy and any negative feedback after the tour was away for that long, so they handled that one as quitely as possible. The official statement they released after Novak's match was perfectly applicable to that scenario as well and they even left it open with listing offences that were not commited because they didn't want to go into the details. They also brought line judges (what was wrong with "Cincy"?) even though they were clearly unfit to do the job just to show more sponsor logos. Now they were under pressure and decided to make a statement and now they keep lying with claiming that there was no other options. If you want to DQ Djokovic then fine, you have a power in that situation to do so, but be a man and admit it that you made the call.

Novak's fate was sealed when the lineswoman left the court knowingly. It was clear she didn't want to forgive Novak there and then. She probably didn't see Novak hitting the ball, which looked like regular ball passing. I wonder what she has to say after watching the video. In any case, the tension between Novak and the referees was rather obvious and quite surprising.

First you tried to prove Ur point by Incorrectly giving example of Philip Hughes .
And I cleared it that it was Leather ball and not tennis Ball .

And now u are saying u got hit on the Eye , Ok I will trust your personal experiance .

And He didn't INSULT lineswoman . He just tried to put the ball away and he had NO Intention to hit anyone . It's just an Accident.

US Open is correct to Default him.. He should have been bit Careful .
But once again ,He didn't INSULT anyone ...

Can you clarify on the points? Will he still - under the new Covid-affected policy - get credit for last year's points at the US Open...as would those who played last year, but not this year?

Oh my...physical insult? Did he hit the ball? He did? Did he hit the woman? He did. That’s called a physical insult of a referee/linesman/lineswoman whoever. It does not matter if you hit them with your hand, your racquet or tennis shoe or whether it’s intentional or unintentional. Physical insult it is.

I know you said you don’t know anyone who got hurt by playing cricket or whatever and I already know better than trying to convince you that if you get hit into the same spot as Phil Hughes with 130km/h passing tennis ball, it does not make much of a difference. Ciao.

What made it worse was the woman started screaming and gasping for breath, whether it was pure overacting, although doesnt look like so,or not...

Maybe if he hit a 20 something guy he would have brushed off and we would have talked about how he got through in a tough 4 setter against Busta..

Even the worst Djokovic haters didn't used the word INSULT .
I have read few articles and they didn't used the word INSULT .
well done hahahaha :-D :-D :-D

exactly .this is what I feel too..
If a job needs quick reflexes then hire people aged between 20 to 35 .

why do they hire 253 years old people is difficult to understnd . :censored:

My commiserations to Djokovic fans. To be honest, I would have liked for Novak to lose at some point and a new GS winner being crowned. But definitely not like this. As @Hitman mentioned, the whole thing was quite surreal. Hopefully, it never happens again. Wish Djokovic recovers mentally from this and concentrates on the dirt.

I'm concerned about Nole's mental health, there's only so much vitriol a person can take. Hope he comes back stronger as before. I may be biased as a fan, but I'm suspicious about his disqualification and trust him on other things. I'm also suspect about the political state of tennis.
Stick together #NoleFam.
Bye : )

Machan ... many things wrong in your post and my first point below is a mistake Djokovic himself committed in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

1. Downplaying the incident based on your own perception rather than acknowledging that everyone is different and perhaps the lineswoman was truly feeling pain

2. Questioning the competency of the lady who had thus far done her job to the satisfaction of the tournament simply because it resulted in your favorite player being defaulted

3. Judging someone based on her age rather than ability

4. Effect of a tennis ball flying at 100 km/hr- I seriously hope you're only kidding else you have no idea how fast 100 km/hr really is. At that speed, you better hope it doesn't hit you on the throat.

Sorry Machi, that was a very very poor post and I hope you come to see it. We're all disappointed by the incident yesterday but let's not make it worse for ourselves.

Machi ... not again! Her job is to possess enough reflexes to dodge balls in play. Was the ball in play when Djokovic hit it toward her? Why are you judging her based on something Djokovic shouldn't have done and was wrong in doing it?

Conveniently avoid? Really? It's called being intelligent and respectful to the spirit of the game. If Djokovic had followed in their foot steps, he'd be one match closer to slam No. 18 and one step closer to the records he is chasing. Instead he'll soon be on a plane heading back home.

Belated condolences to the Djokomassive. Looked like a very unlucky consequence arising from rather mild carelessness, to which most if not all of the ATP is no stranger. I hope you can still enjoy the tourny, though would understand if not. In any case, plenty of time for more to smile about (y)

Disappointed but I will watch and enjoy the tourney. The game is bigger than any individual.
