This was all Novak had to do by winning that 2nd Set in USO and Med would have imploded. Would have been an easier match than Zverev. Sorry had to say this..
May be true but there were several slam matches this year he could have easily lost if he didn’t focus. So all in all he’s done very well. As a fan I’d have loved for him to win the CYGS but it’s not realistic to expect every tight/difficult match will go his way

That 0-40 in the beginning of the 2nd though. When he lost that, I knew it was going to be one of those days. Had an absolute sitter at the net too that he didn't put away.

True. He could have lost vs Zverev itself. That third set was big luck. Djokovic had no BP in entire set and then went 0-40 up in last game. This always happens. A straight set loss doesn't turn into a win easily though. Nole was battered physically, mentally and emotionally

Medvedev is different animal on the faster US Open hard court compared to slow IW HC though. He was pretty open about his problems on slow HC in his statement after the Dimitrov's defeat. Yes, Djokovic was below par in the final, but Medvedev was playing really well, also.

Yea why is he bothering with Davis Cup now at this point in his career? Let Krajinovic and those young dudes play it, and hold it down. This desire to always play for Serbia in everything is baffling to me.
It is understandable. But too bad he cannot see the big picture better. He could have put Sebia on the cover of any tennis history book, forever, in New York.

As accomplished as Novak is, the opportunities he has missed is more than an ATG's career.

Yea but on the flip side, he's already put Serbia on the cover with what he's done. Yea he did miss a lot of opportunities but has a lot of triumphs as well. I get what you mean by the CYGS though as that would have been another level of greatness. However, he's done enough as far as team events and stuff like that. The outright Slam record is more important now.

I think he will see how it goes. Really depends on how he performs in Paris and Turin. If he hardly gets any matches in, then he will play DC. It might be just a place holder to get matches in.

Yea that's true and I hope that's what he's doing here. Hopefully, he decides to skip it.

Medvedev has just withdrawn from next week's tournament in Moscow due to fatigue. His next tournament apparently will be Paris Bercy. That elusive 7 YE #1 is loading as we speak! o_O
Post slam depression runs in the Diamond Gen.

It would be ridiculous if any other than Novak was YE#1 with 3 slams and a final :alien:

I highly doubt Novak's decision making at this point. He decided to play mixed doubles against advice of his teammates, got injured as expected and then pulled out of mixed doubles. The entire thing made no sense in the end. If he wanted a medal, he first needed to be fit enough. So I am not sure if he will skip DC even if he is not 100%. And this will affect 2022 more than what happens in DC. These guys have such a low window for recovery and working on getting in physical peak before new year starts.
