Djokovic: I feel great, I am full of confidence going to London

The world number one Novak Djokovic said that he feels great after his triumph at the Paris Masters and that he is full of confidence.

Djokovic defeated Denis Shapovalov 6-3 6-4 in 65 minutes.

That's how he earned a fifth title at this tournament out of six finals, as well as his 34th Masters trophy and 77th career title. This is Novak's fifth title of the season, after previously triumphing in Melbourne, Madrid, Wimbledon and Tokyo.

"I feel great, I am full of confidence throughout the whole week. Wins in the last three days gave me encouragement for this final and the tournament in London. I have a few days to rest and prepare, and I hope that I will play great at that tournament"

"I played excellent at this tournament, especially the last three matches. As the tournament progressed, I felt better and better",
said Djokovic after winning Paris.

At the beginning he spoke to the Bercy crowd in French.

"Thank you to the crowd for coming in big numbers to support me. I felt great this week, I am very satisfied with my performance today, I was confident and strong. Also, thank you to Denis on nice words", said Novak before resuming in English.

He sent a message to his young opponent.

"Denis, I only have praises and positive things to say to you as a person off the court and as a player on the court. You already have a great career but I am sure that the best things are yet to come for you", said Novak who didn't forget to thank his brothers and team members for the support.

Shapovalov was giving just as much praise.

"Congratulations Novak. You were better, I wish you all the best at the tournament in London, I am sure, I am sure you will go far there as well", said Shapovalov, who will climb to 15th on the ATP list next Monday.

The general versatility will be hard to top as well.

4+ at 6 Masters
3+ at 7
2+ at 8

And obviously the Golden Masters...

I don't think anyone will do it again for a very long time. People will then see how unique Djokovic really was when no one else will be able to put up these numbers even in "homogeneous conditions". His Big titles spread, his NCYGS on 3 surfaces and the Golden Masters is what will separate him from the rest.

Group Bjorn Borg: Djokovic, Federer, Thiem, Berrettini

Pretty good group for Novak here. Berrettini and Thiem should not really bother him in these conditions, but we'll see. As for Fed, can't wait to see how it will play out since that historic Wimbledon final.

Good luck to Nole.

I am back briefly, thanks to everyone for the messages from a couple of months ago. Everything is going great, couldn't be happier.

Excited for this tournament. I thought Novak's serving in Paris was stunning. Working with Goran payed off perhaps. If he brings it to London I think he will be very difficult to stop, because it can bring him confidence into other parts of his game. Plus that cold should go away by the time he starts playing the ATP Finals. Hopefully the stunning Djoker will deliver one more happy week for us in this season...

Novak: Becoming first will be hard, rivals are strong, but I have a huge motive

After his triumph in Paris, Novak Djokovic will go to battle for the last trophy of the season on Sunday, at the ATP Finals in London.

It won't be just a battle for the prestigious title. but also for the top year end rankings spot. He was number one five times at the end of the season, if he manages to do that this year as well, he will equal Pete Sampras' record.

The Serbian tennis player, who after a precisely one year reign surrendered the throne to Rafael Nadal, is aware that he will have a difficult task in the O2 Arena.

Djokovic is in the "Bjorn Borg" group with Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini. He doesn't want to calculate, his goal is to win all the matches at the tournament and return to number one.

"It will be an extremely difficult task for me considering who are the opponents in the group. If I manage to end the year as number one, it will be fantastic. I have a big motive", admitted Novak.

This year he played a few exceptional matches. The one that stands out is the Wimbledon final against Federer, when he won the title after winning a tiebreak at 12-12 in the fifth.

"When talking about those matches, it's about visualization and preparing yourself for all possible situations. I try to play a match in my head before entering the court. I couldn't have predicted that scenario, but I always imagine myself as a winner"

"With that strength of will, you must have the strength that comes from your mental and emotional side. For me that's the eternal battle within me, bigger than the one that happens outside. All the situations that happen on the court aren't the ones that hurt, it's how you handle those situations, how you handle them, how you survive them",
added Novak.

Even though they are all over 30, Djokovic, Federer and Nadal are still dominant in the world of tennis. He says they are his biggest motive.

"We make each other stronger, we demand each other to improve our game. The two of them are probably the biggest reason why I am still competing at this level. The fact that they are part of history still inspires and motivates me to do the same they did, even more", concluded Djokovic.

On Sunday in the afternoon session Novak will play his first match of the tournament, and his opponent will be Matteo Berrettini. The evening session is reserved for Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem.

Was Djokovic even playing tonight? What was that performance, he gave everything to Federer, never seen him like this? Such disappointing end of the season..

Oh well, if he doesn't care..

I tried to tell people he didn't play like himself in that Thiem match but no I was exaggerating and not giving credit. When I saw that, I knew Federer had a good chance to beat him here. Strange to see him not fight for YE #1 when it's right there for the taking but oh well. At least he won 2 Slams this year.

He looked to me like he didn't care at all after that break in first set, just going through the motion. YE#1 was on the line here, not a semifinal of ATP500.
he confirmed it himself that elbow was hurting a lot so i think it was hard to get into the match and play thru the pain

I'm just disappointed to see him go out like this. When you look back, it was a weird season with solid GS performance (Wimbledon win helped a lot), while in Bo3 he was really weak which in the end cost him YE#1.

Here it is to better and more consistent 2020. GGs Nole.

Yeah, it is quite visible this year. I mean he is 32, so yeah, we can't expect him to be as consistent and win every match like before, be it BO3 or BO5. He is just over 9000 points earned in 2019, which is really low for his standards when he plays full season.

I hope he explodes next year again and has another multi-slam year.

He's won exactly 100 more points than he did last year, and he did technically play a full season in 2018... But he spent half of it losing to Chungs, Taro Daniels, and Cecchinatos...

Just shows how dominant he was from W 2018.

His attitude on court tonight though, I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. 2016 comes to mind where he fought Murray for YE#1 too.

Reminded me of that loss to Karlovic in Doha too

Not gonna lie guys, I'm pretty stunned that he didn't even manage to get past the RR stages. o_O And there was I saying after his 1st match how if he continued playing like that he'd be very difficult to beat here! I guess you could argue he was a bit unlucky given that Thiem came out and played his best ever HC match and Federer suddenly turned the clock back to 2005 - had Zverev and Medvedev been in his group I suspect things would've turned out differently but with the WTF a lot of it comes down to luck of the draw. Also disappointing that he's finished 2019 with more ranking points, titles and a better W-L% than last year and that it wasn't sufficient for the YE#1 but I suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Yea he completely effed up YE #1 because he was crap in IW, Miami and WTF. Very uncharacteristic since he dominated these tournaments at his peak and won them all in the same year in consecutive years from 2014-2015. This year he didn't even win 1 of them.

This all boils down to that Thiem match. If he even hit the ball in that match like he did today, he would have won. Instead he was hitting all those passive neutral shots like a zombie or something. Nothing you can really do against Roger when he serves like he did today and is zoned in unless you yourself are at your absolute best, but he should have beaten Thiem and he knows it. Just very unclutch play which is costly because he still would have been in the SF with a loss today.

Guys it's ok .
I felt he was not in form or maybe not 100% versus thiem too.
It feels bad but I think we wud be more upset if he got beat in semis and finals again .
And I personally feel Tsitsipas and Thiem are playing better . They have a good chance to win .
All will be good if Novak comes back fit and in form for Australian Open..
2 slams and 2 masters - Not too bad :)
Maybe he is already focused for next Slam .
Cheer up #Nolefam and have a good 2 happy months till we meet again here for Australian open :)

Yeah, he just didn't really open his shoulders against Thiem for whatever reason. When he does and he's serving well he's practically unbeatable but sadly that same day in, day out consistency he used to possess during the very prime of his career just isn't there anymore.
