The rest may not be such a bad thing for Novak. However, it depends how much of an impact this makes on the whole season. If he’s just missing a couple of events it’s not a big deal.

However, the worrying signs are that this could cause multiple cancellations which is bad for Rafa and Novak especially. As they both in good form. The only silver lining is this would almost guarantee djoko’s record weeks at no1 and year end no1 records.

Out of all the big 3 of course this benefits Fed the most. Fed fans will be happy but we will see what happens going forward.

I also think the rest would do hin good. The offseason was very short, he played his last match of 2019 on November 22nd, and first one this year on January 4th. That can not be adequate at his age.

However I do hope we get to see some action in Miami. Novak will be ready and sharp for sure.

Too much rest is never good for Nole.Remember last season, where he had that bad idea of playing just for Masters and Slams and it turned out be a 2 Slam season instead of 3 or 4 and costed him YE 1.It might sound too critical but that's the way it is.It doesnt do him good..Besides we all know what his precocious mind would do to him.He has momentum now and he needs to ride on it.

Novak should consider skipping tournaments until the coronavirus situation is cleared. Keep Monty, RG, and Wimby for now. He can always get the #1 record.
It is very serious. Rome is in doubt. So is Tokyo Olympics.
I expect depleted draws in RG and Wimby due to player illness, health concern, or travel bans.
And his team should use private jet if they are to travel at all.
As I posted on Feb 24, this is serious and I hope someone from Novak's team follows this thread and considers.
Obviously, it applies to all players.

Yes, he will be #1 every week until the end of this year.
He will win Calendar Year Grand Slam.
He will be undefeated the whole year.

Shame there won't be no tennis for who knows how long, or any sport event but health is number one priority. Stay safe guys.
Novak about the situation right now.

ATP froze its rankings due to the coronavirus crisis, which means Djoker will stay at 281 weeks, until the time, when ATP Tour reboots.

We are experiencing difficult times, but let us not lose hope. Every crisis once ends.
It is more than unfair. He IS the number one player and the weeks doesn't count?

The ATP does not want Novak to get the record. He gets older and weaker during the break. This gives Federer an advantage.
It'll never be the same again. Novak was interrupted in the middle of his run. At Federer's, the weeks would have continued to count.

I keep counting, because he's on number one. What a mess. He could not be more clearly disadvantaged. 18-0. Top shape.

Thank you very much ATP

What are you talking about? It is fair and right thing to do and knowing Novak, he wouldn't want to get the record this way either. Nobody is playing tennis and he gets 10~ free weeks at #1? No, he will break the record once play resumes and do it fair and square.

Today Nole is at 282 by ATP site.

I hope ATP continues to count weeks. We have a ranking, it's frozen, not canceled. So we have a number 1. And weeks are going.
We haven't new rankings every week, but when a slam is played, and we haven't a new ranking for 2 weeks, they awarded 2 weeks at number 1 at the number 1 player before the slam.
So if, now, we will haven't ranks for X weeks, they would award X weeks at number 1 to Nole.

Weeks in 1st place will not count during the pause. This article it confirms:

The freezing of rankings means that the weeks will not be counted as well. As a result, Djokovic may need to wait even longer to accomplish his goal to break Federer’s record. Djokovic’s 283rd week at the top will begin only when the tour resumes.

But you were right about Novak's number of weeks, so I fixed post #8928.

It's cruel for Novak, but I believe that in spite of the current suspension of ATP ranking, Djoker will break Roger's record in the future. But it will be later.

Some Djokovic content while we are all on this indefinite break. Second half of his 2006 Roland Garros match against Monfils, when he reached his first Slam quarterfinal. This tournament, where he beat three seeded players (Gonzo, Haas and Monfils) and the five setter against Ancic at Wimbledon next month won me over. How far he has come...

On this day, thirteen years ago, Djokovic won his first Masters title, beating Canas in three straights sets in the 2007 Miami Open final.

He now has 34 trophies from that category.

I remember watching this match while I was out in Detroit that year. I was so excited because I had only recently jumped on the Djokovic bandwagon during Sydney earlier that year and this was the first big win that I celebrated as a Novak fan, turned out to be the first of many.

During Novak's career, Wimbledon has become his second GS domain (5 titles overall, 4 titles in the last 6 events), so the official cancelation of Wimbledon 2020 released today 1st April is worse news for Djoker than would be the cancellation of USO 2020 or RG 2020 :(

The Heavyweight Champion will rise again. Unfortunately, these are things that are outside the control of anyone. The most important is that they are all healthy when the tennis begins again.

Djokovic helped Bergamo - "Novak has a golden heart"

The world's best player Novak Djokovic decided to help Bergamo, the Italian city which was affected the most by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Serbian donated a currently undisclosed amount to Bergamo. Previously he donated one million Euros to his homeland Serbia.

Bergamo currently has 61.326 people infected, with 11.142 passing away.

"Djokovic with the golden heart" - headlines in the Italian press.

"That's right, Djokovic has a golden heart. He never stops being generous. The best people are those who help silently, not exposing themselves, and people don't know what they do. We found about his love for Italy from someone else, not from him. Novak Djokovic impressed me, the best player in the world, who after huge donations to Serbia helped us too. When he heard the news from our province Lombardy, he helped. He is a great man. I hope I will be able to hug him soon", said Peter Assembergs, director of the health center Bergamo, in "Porta a porta" interview.

"Novak's donation will help in modernization of shock rooms in Treviglio hospital, which is currently the most important place in the fight against coronavirus. The hospital will buy masks, protective glasses, respirators, defibrillators, monitors, lamps and other needed equipment, which will additionally ease the work of medicine workers. All thanks to Novak Djokovic's donation", claims Assembergs.

As good as this match was, Nole made life difficult for himself so many times. Had he finished it off earlier, who knows that years Final could've been a whole different story.

Good thing Dimitrov was in the mood to do the same one year later, when he wasted 3? or 4? set points in the 4th.

Edit: Watching it again, yes, he obviously had tons of opportunities to close it out in 4. He messed up badly, but was probably low on confidence after RG.

"I personally am not for vaccination and I would not want anyone to force me to get the vaccine so I can travel. If that is the rule and the law then what will it be? I have to decide whether or not to undergo it. I have my own thinking. , and whether it will change at some point I do not know. Hypothetically, to continue the season in July, August or September, though not a great chance, as I understand it, right after the abolition of the strict quarantine, there will be a requirement for a mandatory vaccine, which is not yet available " , said Djokovic .
Sorry for machine translation, I'm too lazy to do it myself.
