Djokovic and his brother were the first to greet Thiem and Zverev on their arrivals at the Belgrade airport.

Dimitrov arrived on Monday and already had a training session with Djokovic. Ivanisevic was watching over.

"Adria Tour" will start on Friday, with the official opening ceremony starting at 4 pm local time. After that we will get to watch mixed doubles. Jelena Jankovic, Olga Danilovic, Nenad Zimonjic and Novak Djokovic will participate. Doubles follow after that, where we will get to watch Dimitrov, Zverev, Troicki, Zimonjic among others. The singles draw will be determined by the players, as they will have to serve and hit a certain target where the name of their opponent will be placed.

Congrats to Thiem on winning the tournament. Only player to win every match, well deserved. And big thanks to him, Sascha and Grigor for coming to participate. Belgrade was the center of this sport scene for a weekend, we got to see something we've been missing for months - top tennis with crowds.

Despite beating Troicki and Zverev, Djokovic narrowly missed out on the final on game ratio to Krajinovic, who beat him from a set down.

Seeing his emotional reaction after beating Sascha made me realize for the first time what a tough blow his retirement will be. Not ready for it at all. Hopefully he's still got a lot more to give us on biggest stages until then. He's been so awesome...

Rothenberg is definitely persona non grata in this thread. :D

Can't say Djokovic is faultless but no doubt people will want to say all the blame is on him. We have seen such targeting for a lot lesser matters in the past.

Anyway, hope no serious cases will come out of these two held exhibitions. Keep staying safe guys. This isn't over yet.

The Adria tour is turning into a Covid disaster. And it is on Novak.

Although Serbia has done pretty well controlling Covid, players and their teams came from all over Europe, where some countries have been hit by the virus really bad.

This is the worst that could have happened to ATP right now. Some people might die because of this tournament.
I think Novak should be removed from the ATP players council and banned from the tour for a significant amount of time. He needs to learn some science during the down time.

Tbh I dont think it's fair for Novak to get all the blame for this. Every player had the choice to be there. Every fan had the choice to watch. They obviously got authorisation from the Serbian government otherwise the tournament wouldn't have taken place. Its seems like Djokovic is getting most of the hate.

However, I do agree it was a stupid decision in the first place to hold it and it shouldn't have gone ahead. Novak shouldn't have held the tournament, the Serbian authorities shouldn't have allowed it and the players shouldn't have come. But everyone played their part in this.

That's a very rational post.

Djoko's PR team seem determined to make it worse though. His refusing to get tested is another blunder.

Agree. Not all the blame, but a hearty portion of it.

Some things we shouldn’t forget:

  • Everything indicates COVID-19 will be here for a while. It won’t be over soon but the severity will likely diminish over time (you can see that in US today where cases are rising yet deaths are falling)
  • Tennis, like all other pro sports, is a business and has a responsibility to all those that depend on it. It can’t wait to return until everything is 100% safe, that could be years away. All other sports are dealing with the same issue.
  • There is no simple or easy answer as to how to respond to the crisis if you want to keep the sport alive. Simply shutting down everything until the virus is fully gone is not an option.
  • Right now, and despite all the risks, the ATP and other relevant bodies have decided to restart in August in the US, fully aware of the risks, and fully aware that the virus is still out there (and particularly in the US). And players need match practice ahead of that.
  • Novak is not responsible for what a government allows nor is he responsible for pro players getting infected. They are all adults and have agency. No one forced them. They understand, and took, the risks.
  • Since absent a vaccine or choosing to self isolate 100% (not an option for tennis pros) the risk of contagion will not disappear it is probably in the interest of players to get infected earlier, rather than later. I’m not saying they should actively seek to get infected but if their travel and other activities will expose them to it, might as well get it sooner. Yes, some who were infected were later found to be re infected but the evidence is weak on this front and the number of reinfected so far is pretty small.

o_O(n) This post is total BS. How can you call yourself a Novak fan, when you wish, that Nole to be banned from the tour?

Maybe not banned but he risked people and players safety just for his crazy idea. What if it makes Dimitrov, Coric or other skip slams? Maybe himself too. What if ballkids or spectators got sick? Sorry but organizing all this just because Serbia has no preventive measures is rather dumb. It is not an excuse while players are coming from outside.

Rational fans are rational and are able to criticize their guy when warranted. If Federer pulled this stunt organizing the Adria Tour, I would call for him to be sanctioned. Fandom doesn't mean blindly supporting your guy when they are spectacularly wrong about something. That's hagiography, not being a fan.

Ridiculous. What about those who had no connection with tennis but might now get infected by contact with the players? They deliberately took risks and were not bothered by the consequences to others. Maybe if they got sued for damages that might change their tune.
