There are two pretty close but nevertheless different meanings:
1. Молоде́ц means attaboy!, attagirl!, well done!
2. Мо́лодец means a young man. This one a bit old fashioned. Both of them can be used in polite conversation, but they are informal.

It cannot be he was physically empty, just two days ago he hardly looked gassed in 5th set against Sacha..And that wasnt even a long match just 3.5 hour match..If it was a 4.5 5 hour long battle then I would have understood...The way he beaten Berretini,Zverer, I know he his wasnt prime Novak but still good enough to beat Medvedev..All he had to do was slog out for first 1.5 hours against Med and he would have wilted away later.. These lanky guys dont have much in tank anyways..Just move them around for couple of hours and they are done....The way Thiem disposed off Medevedev in last years semi finals..

Good for him but I think he should take the rest of the year off. Novak must be terribly disappointed, it will take some getting over.Novak in Belgrade, Serbia, with racket in his hands and smiling, two days after that historic and heartbreaking match.

A few days late but got to say, so proud of him. Obviously prior to the final I was picturing a best case scenario, but this is the next best one. Several comebacks, fighting constantly, winning more people over than ever. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of pressure he was under since Wimbledon, glad that's something he won't be going through again. Remarkable what he's done this season especially after all the crap that happened in 2020 post covid break. Can't wait to watch him again as he should be more loosened up going forward. And hopefully last Sunday was just a small delay as far as the totals are concerned...

Did we ever find out what the injury was? I can only find a vague reference to a left shoulder injury and to "multiple injuries." I really like Nole but I cant help but wonder if he let his team mate and country down when he withdrew from the Olympics. If he was only interested in the singles medal (and the US open) he should have let someone else have the spot.

Imagine going back in time to after RG 2020 and saying "bruh next year you'll be so disappointed cause he doesn't win the CYGS".
Huge loss obviously, but still an amazing year and I don't really doubt Djokovic can back from this one. I don't think he should take a huge amount of time off cause that basically only makes the loss bigger.

No reason he doesn't play IW, Paris, and WTF. He won the most or next to the most in all three events. Hope he finishes 2021 strong with a YE#1.

A bit late myself. But I actually wanted to see Novak win the whole thing this year.
Never seen a Calendar grand slam in my lifetime, and even though I'm a rafa fan, I can accept it when someone really deserves it.
He beat rafa at the French, won the Aussie and Wimbledon comfortably, and I was hoping for him to do it at the US.
Heartbreaking loss. It got to me when he was crying on the changeover. Never actually seen him tired like this before. Whether it physical or emotional or combo of both. Wouldn't have minded seeing him lift that trophy that night.
Maybe because I've already accepted him as the most accomplished ever, and this would've been the icing on the cake. Don't think we'll see this sort of chance again, but look forward to seeing him dominate the remainder of the season especially now that Fedal are not playing.
For the rest of the tour, good luck, think we'll see a free swinging, fresh djokovic when he comes back from this little break

This loss might be a bless in disguise. Although he's been stunning the whole year, the more he won, the more his level of play declined throughout the year, probably because of the pressure growing stronger after each win. I mean there was a lot of things to be nervous about : weeks at #1 record, winning AO to stay in the slam race, playing for DCGS + 19th slam, trying to equal Fedal's slam record, going for the GCS, going for the CYGS... That's too much for one man, even for Djokovic.
Now all this accumulated pressure is off his shoulders and he has nothing to lose anymore, everything ahead of him would only be the icing on the cake if he could win. This will allow him to play more freely which might cause him to reach an insanely high level of play, maybe he will be even better than this year.

This time he should have taken a queue from Nadal or Mourinho.Look at how Nadal downplays any important match. he says it just another normal game, keeps his cerebral bearings on the ground. Even Mourinho downplayed his 1000th match in charge like a crime and then ran like a child when he actually won it. Thats the way to do it.. Novak was approaching it all wrong. Was nervous even in French Open, against Nadal,tsisipas but luckily he got in his rhtym soon. Was so nervous against Berretini in Wimbledon too. This time it became a bridge too far. But even in the final, if he had got on board in the final in the first game, it could have been different and even if he gotten a break in the 2nd set, he would have won in 4. But not meant to be.

There's only so much you can do with the media presence. Also what you're saying and what's going inside your head are 2 completely different things. Nadal failed at getting DCGS (l. to Wawrinka, Federer and Djokovic) and NCYGS as well (l. to Ferrer), so I don't think it's worth mentioning him without getting results. I think that being nervous in some moments, especially at the start of the match is pretty normal for Novak in the finals. Happened more often than not (2011, W'18, AO'16, AO'19 and AO'21 were the best from him for sure). Pretty much everything was going wrong for him in New York this year though. CYGS pressure, bad draw, almost 17 hrs spent on court before the final and fresh Medvedevbot who almost didn't face a top 20 player and was obviously in a great form and ready to rally. I was surprised that "outlasting the opponent" approach was working so well thus far, but it felt like he really needed too much time to get into rhythm each match. Daniil did a great job, especially with his serve in the first set and managed to do just enough to keep it in the second. That set would be massive for Novak, but there's no point in thinking about it now. Had it been closer on the board like all of those 2012-2014 loses I would be worried, but now that all of that CYGS talk is off we can go back to one slam at a time.

There is a 7 weeks between USO and Paris. A lot time to rest. Meanwhile, looks like Med will fight for no1. He is commited to play Moscow and said he would play St Pet instead of Vienna. If he travels to IW thats 1500 points. Novak really needs to play his best in order to get YE1.

My guess: Novak is happy tying for the YE#1 record with his idol Sampras, unless Medvedev falls on his face.

This season again he is becoming lax come the end of the season, worked hard the whole season now he is chilling and he may lose the seventh YE1, Wonder why he has this knack of kicking feet. He needs to clean up, finish the task.

Like 2016, this makes no sense for this race to be even close! How do you win 3 majors, make final of a 4th, but still not be a clear leader for YE #1? I didn't think any season could be better than 2015 with 3 majors, another major final, 6 Masters wins, a YEC, and finalist in the 2 other Masters he played! It made it tough to defend in 2016, but Djokovic still won 2 majors, was a finalist in a 3rd, and won 4 Masters events! It came down to the YEC Final where Murray snatched the #1 for YE honors! I thought that obscene, but if it were to happen again this year, I might be done! Watching the game I love turn into a bash-fest of the ball over real skill is hard enough, but seeing these kind of ranking issues really irks my soul! Federer hasn't played much in over a year, but remains in the top 10! WTF? I know how with their ridiculous rules governing this period of a p@ndemic, but it's still nauseating to see! If Med winds up YE #1, I'm not sure why I need to pay tennis any attention after that! I still only have-heartedly watch the women since Hingis and Henin retired! At least there was some kind of stability with the men, but the Big 3 era is slowly coming to an end!

I would only blame the stupid pacing post-Wimbledon. Played Olympics, then entered USO rusty as a result of underplaying because he skipped Cinci. Had no rhythm at the USO as a result and we all know how much he struggled the whole two weeks.

I would have ditched the lolympics completely (and I think playing doubles there was his undoing in singles as he was in control against Zverev until a complete intensity collapse) but who am I to talk. He didn't want to sacrifice his last realistic shot there for the sake of another year end number 1, for which he is a clear favorite as it is now anyway. I'd say no reason to panic but that has fallen on deaf ears a lot of times this season. And considering what a season Djokovic has had, that's very disappointing.
The fact that the sport is long past him only describes a state of affairs in which the class and composure of what tennis embodied has passed on to tennis brats and tantrums. This is exactly what he has a right to decry. Pity that more don’t understand it. Btw I’m not old but the greatest thing tennis can provide a young person is a lesson in how to take lumps and how to win. It’s character. Emerson has more than a right here; when you know more and stand for more than someone else it could be said you have an obligation to speak
