I'm not a fan of 'modern' music, but in a general sense, classical music is inferior for the same reason that R.Federer would probably beat Arthur Ashe 6-0, 6-2, 6-1, or that A.Ottavino would strike out Babe Ruth every time he faced him.

Cultural institutions tend to evolve and improve over time, building on the accomplishment of prior generations. While music doesn't move in a straight line towards higher and higher quality, music of the 20th century certainly built on and exceeded the offerings of the 'classical' genre.
