Djokovic reaches 100 weeks at #1

On September 23, 2013, Novak will enter his 100th week at World Number 1. He becomes the 9th player to achieve more than 100 weeks at number 1 and he's sure to reach Agassi's 101 weeks count. Depending on Beijing (if he wins and Nadal doesn't get a semifinal), he may achieve 102 weeks. Nadal will most probably regain the #1 ranking before Novak gets to 102 weeks at #1.

Anyways, Nole fans, Congratulations!

Novak is reserving the spot among top 10 players in the open era. Two more slams will ensure this position.
Three more with RG will make him #6.

The thread is about weeks spend at #1 ranking. I don't know why the Ajde brigade are already thinking about RG next year

Bitter ************* have to troll in every thread about Novak. Please leave us alone to celebrate this great achievement.
Agree, ************* should show more respect to Ajde Brigade.
100 weeks at #1 is no mean feat by the way. And he will most likely add a few more weeks in the future.

Congrats to Djoko on being no.1 but what is the point of being no.1 on paper when he himself knows who the real no.1 is. And his attitude showed in the US open final.

It originally looked like Novak “turned the corner” in 2011 and made that step to the top.

But after 2012 and 2013, it’s clear that 2011 was just a hot streak and he’s settling around top 3ish.

His last 2 US Open finals and this year’s Wimbledon finals have been weak showings, when he clearly had the upperhand going into those matches.

Congrats SOG. While I am still on my hiatus, just came here to say that good to see some class from Nadal fans. (But Beware, SOG will chase your idol like never before in 2014) ;)

Congratulations to Novak, well deserved. And for all those who complain he's #1 in name only these days, these things have a rough symmetry to them - in 2011, Djokovic snatched the title belt from Nadal at some point between the third set TB in Miami and the "sea level" clay final in Rome, but didn't get the ranking until Wimbledon; similarly, if ever there was an epic poem of a match for best in the world, it was the W '08 final, but Rafa didn't reach the mountaintop until later that summer.

Same thing happened last year when Fed didn't really regain the throne until he whipped Novak in Cincy, and Novak didn't really get it back until the YEC finals. Now you've got Rafa, who's been the best since somewhere between Montreal and NYC, and he'll get the top ranking back in the next few weeks. It all pretty much evens out in the long run these days (which is actually a credit to the current ATP points system).

Long story short, Novak has cemented himself as a well deserving legend of the game with 100+ weeks at the top - regardless of where he currently stands in the true pecking order.

Congratulations to the Novak. He deserved it and enjoyed while it lasted. Now, returning it to the king if you will.

Nadal doesn't deserve #1 until he stops tanking Wimbledon. Djokovic made it to the final of essentially every grand slam this year.
Yeah and Nadal won 2 slams this year compared to 1 for Cvac. Nadal also won 5 masters compared to Cvac's 1. Nadal deserves to be #1 this year and has for quite some time.

Ironic, how you're so supportive of Nadal post success, and wished he'd be sent home early in any of the tournaments Novak played in. Shoot, you didn't think Nadal had a chance against fed this year. You excel in pretzel logic where Nadal is concerned, based on how hypocritical you are regarding his play.

He doesn't deserve it after his level this year. Sad..
Djokovic has collected the allotted amount of points needed to be ranked 1st in the world. The way the yearly ranking system works (not the race) is that players need to match their previous results from last season in order to hang onto the ranking. Thus, Djokovic is currently in first place because he did relatively well during the indoor season.

Look, if Nadal is playing like I know he can I will give him due credit for it. When he starts playing passive, pusher tennis is when I will criticize him, and deservedly so, especially since he is capable of better than that.

And he DOES deserve the #1 ranking right now. Cvac still sitting in the top spot is an absolute joke.

Not really. He is thousands of points behind in the race this year, and would not be #1 right now if Nadal's points from Vina Del Mar counted already. Blame the silliness of the ATP ranking system for why he isn't #1 right now.

I agree that Nadal is the true number one player this year, but on paper Djokovic is still sitting atop in 1st place. Statistics, mistakes, and whatnot. No excuses.

ATP rankings are based on 52 week period. Silly or othewise that is the current system being followed and per that Nadal isnt #1 (yet).

Gratz to Joker. The Son of God deserves his number 1 rank for the amount of time hes had it. People say he doesnt deserve it because he had some Wozniacki type of year but guess what?

Nadal's 2011 was a good year he just got stopped by the same dude many times throughout the year.

Djoker's 2013 was a great year as he made 3 gs finals this year and would have made the 4th at RG if it werent for Nadal skipping so many tournaments and ending up in Djoker's half. And same thing he got stopped by the most dominant player this year. Nadal.

Novak has had a good year, but it's subpar for a number 1 to win as few tournaments as he's won. He may very well end the year as number one, but everyone knows Nadal was number one for the year as far as play.

The rankings are the rankings for the past year. The rules are known to everyone ahead of time. I'm so tired of people complaining about who should be the "real" #1. (This is even worse when people talk about the WTA.) If someone earned the points, they are #1. It is not necessarily the same as the person who is playing the best right now, or the person who has played the best the past 6 months.
You can claim a player is "the best," but #1 is determined by a set of rules, not a popularity contest.

congratulations djokovic, it looks like nadal will end up with more slams and djokovic will end up with more weeks as no. 1

I'd say Djokovic has earned his 100 weeks at #1. Nadal will regain the #1 ranking and have it for several weeks more but it won't take away Novak's achievement nor diminish it.
