Djokovic says he's requested to play on the centre court for the Wimbledon QF

Should Djokovic be on the Centre Court in the QF?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Court 18 thanks

If Del Potro beats Simon the centre court matches will be Federer/Anderson and Del Potro Nadal. If Simon comes through it's hard to see past Isner/Raonic as a compelling centre court match.

Federer is the Wimbledon darling, the tournament's greatest champion, and the most popular player in the world. It is what it is. They will keep him on Center.

Nadal v Del Potro is THE match of the quarters should it come about, so I cannot see that match being moved off Center either.

Djokovic will be on Court One IMO. I think if he had the bigger quarter final marquee match, they would have put him on Center. He just needs to get through this one match, and then everything else is only on Center.

Fed & Nadal are the top two seeds & have won three of the last six slams each, in his last six slams Novak hasn't been past the quarters. Nadal vs Del Potro is the number two vs number five & obviously has to be on centre, Fed vs Anderson is one vs eight. Why should twelve vs twenty four be on centre? Pure arrogance.

Hopefully he does, especially with his one experience this year on centre court being awful. But honestly, I don’t think they will do it. Federer is basically guaranteed centre court. And Nadal I think depends on who he faces. Would love to be wrong though.

Wimbledon has created a very stupid situation for themselves. A 12 time Slam Champ and 3 time Wimbly Champ playing so little on CC is ****ing stupid. Yesterday, all of the Big 3 had demolition jobs anyway, so that was a spot where it didn't matter too much, so that was the moment to put Djokovic on Centre over Nadal.

Now you can't really put Nadal/Delpo on Court 1.

I think they should put Fed/Anderson on Court 1 now, but they're never gonna do it. They don't care enough about a fair game

It's kind of pathetic to request it. If I were a pro I would never try to give off the impression that I care about such things. Petty, even if Federer does get absurdly kind treatment from Wimbledon organizers.
You have to draw a line somewhere

If you don't resist when you get ****ed over, you're implying it's okay to be ****ed over.

Agreed, that's the least marquee match-up. Last time Fed played Court 1 was in 2015 Wimbledon QF against SImon, didn't seem to bother him at all. They're just being too greedy here and disrespecting a 3 time champion.

Longterm, I don't think it's a good look for them.

Honestly there really should be a line somewhere with how much preferential treatment is acceptable just because player x is more popular than player y. This **** has been going on especially with Federer for years.

Wimbledon final 2004 was Roddick's first match on CC that year.

It's really between him and Nadal. The schedule tomorrow will be the mirror image of today's schedule. One match from the top, one from the bottom.

It's Nadal that's preventing Djokovic from playing on CC, not Federer since they are on the opposite side of the draw.

I don't think he should have requested though especially after the drama on Saturday (or at least not disclosed that he asked).

Djokovic: I think I’ve in a way earned the right to play QF on CC, we’ve put the request with the organizers. Rafa and Roger played all four of their matches on CC, myself only one...

Done a poll just for fun about whether or not he should be on the Centre Court.

World number one Novak Djokovic says male tennis players should earn more money than their female counterparts because more people watch them play.

Thriller says Rafa and Roger should be on Centre because more people want to watch them play.

You go, Djoker. Someone needs to speak up.

Enough of this taking all the crap dished out to you (Federer is guilty of doing it over the years, and only he is to blame for the titles it has cost him).

Djokovic can get his SF at C
There is no way in hell his QF match can be put on CC

The queue to see Fed is huge seeing the pictures and people have put RF tents for 2 days now

Federer has got ****ty treatment at slams and masters whether he was ranked one or 10 over the years in the name of carrying the mantle of sport on his shoulders. He would be put up late night after all the women's shriek/mug fest so he finishes his match at 1 am. And he is completely to blame for that, because he kind of shrugs and takes it in his stride instead of speaking up.
Compare that to someone like Nadal , who is very vocal about anything that disadvantages him by 1% against his next opponent. He gets the best of schedule in slams and masters. Never ever plays the second semifinal, especially in masters, where it is a big disadvantage. Squeaky wheels get the grease.

They're not putting Federer(the most popular player of all time) on an outer court for a QF at Wimbledon of all places. Get real.

Though I am a Novak fan, I have to agree with you. Federer is going to destroy Anderson, yet being the King of Wimbledon, he will be on CC.

Btw, personally I think CC matters only from the point of finishing the match should it rain. Otherwise , it does not matter which court they put him on as long as they give him a reasonable start time with enough buffer to finish the match should there be rain delays.

I guess they can put Federer on court 1..Court 1 is a good show court itself.
Nadal Vs Delpotro & Djokovic Vs Kei should b on CC, Federer has a regulation demolition job of Anderson anyways. U can have an ATG begging to play on CC that's just disrespectful.

U cannot always have what a crowd would want, Wimbledon has been giving what crowd wants for last week. Just 1 day give Djokovic the respect he deserves.

That's why I get a bit angry when I hear people whinging about Federer and the schedule. Do they know the amount of inconvenience he has suffered? It's not all sun and roses. Sometimes, he'd rather play at a certain time, but he just goes with the organizers requests/preferences.

I am getting a bit tired of the constant whining in tennis.

Federer is defending champion. It is understandable if he is given CC for all his matches.

What exactly has Nadal , with a best result of 4R in the last 6 years, done to deserve preferential treatment ?

It's Fed/Anderson or Raonic/Isner. Opponents have to be scheduled at the same time. It's going to be one match from the top, one from the bottom. The battle is really between Nadal and Djokovic for CC tomorrow.

Some treatment is more meaningful than others (roof open or closed, which umpire is used, when to stop play at night, extra day of rest, etc.). Center court or court 1 is not tangible enough to warrant a request from someone like Novak who should be above that - IMO.

He is the current World No. 1 and most recent winner of a slam.

Yes, well that is a big reason to want CC.

Maybe he should have worded it right. As to how it is unfair for someone if they have to play 3 days in a row should they be impacted by rain delays and hence the schedule should factor in all this and try to give everyone a fair shot to win their next match.

True

This is Wimbledon after all

So don't watch Wimbledon if you're so disgusted with the way they have organized things. I'm surprised you can find the time to watch one match with all of your moaning about the Establishment.

Djokovic fans should just be worrying about whether Djokovic can make the final and whether he can win the title. If he can do that, I'm sure the moaning about what courts he played on will cease.

So if there's a problem, your strategy is to never mention it, bury it, and walk away from it? Why don't you apply that strategy to this thread, if you're moaning about some of the replies in this thread?

Djokovic is a distant third in the Big 3 and is currently ranked the lowest of the 3. If there are only two matches on CC, how in the world could they justify putting Djokovic on CC over the two greats still fighting for GOAT status? If Djokovic wants CC treatment, he needs to play better/win more.
