G.O.A.T.
HALMSTAD, Sweden — Top-ranked Novak Djokovic has withdrawn because of a left knee injury from his singles match for Serbia against Sweden in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.

The Wimbledon champion will be replaced by Janko Tipsarevic, who will face Ervin Eleskovic. Sweden's Michael Ryderstedt will play Viktor Troicki in the opening match on Friday.

It was unclear whether Djokovic would be back for the reverse singles on Sunday.

He should learn to play with fractures and broken knees like the other warriors in the ATP.

Wot u tink, jacksonvile ?

He has been playing with that injury for some time. I think that leg has been hurt since last year. He had kinetic tape on it way back then, maybe even further.

Do you think a knee injury is as serious as a groin injury?

So you're saying he's been dominating people left and right with a leg injury? That's pretty funny.

Are you denying the fact that he has been taping list left knee and using knetic tape as well as other treatments for the the past year and more?

No, I just find it funny that Novak really doesn't say anything about his injury even though he probably could have blamed his loss against Federer on it and the 4 day lay off, but Nadal continuously blames losses on injuries.

I'm a little confused by this article. Did he suffer an acute injury during the match or withdraw before stepping on the court?

Or the fantom"tired" groin right? :) Or the deathly mono?:) Or the mystery of the ankle:) Or the darkness of the spider bite :) Or ...

It is not acute, it is cronic and may have re-aggravated. So he is just resting and getting ready for the rest of the season. Very smart as he has a whole summer HC season to dominate.

It's not like they really need him. He probably just needs some rest.

By the way, where is the tie played?

It's being played in Halmstad. In a cruel ironic twist Eleskovic whom he'd play if he hadn't pulled out because of a knee injure tore his ACL against Tipsarevic, so technically none of the original players could finish the match...

^ This leads me to think that maybe he would have played if the match was in Serbia.

Poor Eleskovic. ACL tear sounds bad.

I don't think he's really injured. He pulled out of Monte Carlo for the knee, but was obviously untroubled by it in his next five tournaments. Just getting some well-needed rest going into the summer hard court swing.

Good decision, and he's not going to get flack in Serbia as he wanted to play initially and was in the squad, so it's all been smartly handled, especially since Serbia should win comfortably.

Nadal does not blame anything on injuries. Try not to confuse Nadal fans with Nadal himself...

However it is completely rationale to cite injuries if they affect a players level.

This would have been epic. Complaining at the press conference that he didn't have to play a QF match:)

Anyways, I hope he gets better soon! Nevertheless, his style isn't that easy on the body either, it's not just Rafa. Some of his changes in direction are pretty violent, I'm not surprised he has problems once in a while.

Maybe because Nadal is a sour loser (and a sore loser to boot), but Nole isn't?

Injury? so what else is new? The head ATP trainer said that there is o%
of professoinal tennis players who do not have an injury of some sort.

lol... Nam delivers once more. Pile owned, diverts to usual tactic of slamming Federer. Hey... PILE... it's about Novak and Nadal... dont kick the dust if the game doesnt suit you!!!

So now this makes Murray the official favorite for the USO 2011 ?

just kidding, pls ignore troll post.

It's impossible to ignore your trollery Sent, it's omnipresent and of GTOAT quality ( this part, I detest the most).

However, this post of yours with regard to Muurya is 98.56% true. Unless Rafa shows up without his wheelchair, Muurya might as well be victorious..????????

So now the drop in level that Nadal is putting all his hope in, should come sooner or later.
I would really suggest that Rafa just take it easy for the rest of the year (in that yacht and on the course) and let Nole spend himself out totally.
By AO 2012, The Knave Nole will be back in the lower ranks where he truly belongs, and King Rafael can easily rule the ATP without much sweat.

Peaks and troughs folks.Just remember, everyone has a purple patch where they are almost untouchable.Rafa's has gone on for a couple of years now,Roger's was,what,4 maybe 5 years? Now it is Nole's turn.He has raised the level,Rafa and Roger have dropped theirs,Rafa moreso than Roger, since Roger almost seems to be having a resurgence, and his level is coming back up.Djoko is playing some unbelievable tennis and while I am not a fan of the man,you cannot help but be in awe of some of the tennis he is playing. After all,I assume(yes I know I shouldn't) that we are all here because we all have something in common.Tennis.The love of the game and all it's intricacies, nuances and the pure enjoyment of that brief moment where we are 'in the zone'.

Why did he go there? I thought sometime ago he said he won't go.

The reason he still went to Halmstad for the DC-match was in case Soderling would've played. Since Soderling didn't show up for the DC-meeting all what was left for Sweden was two players ranked below 300 in the world.

I'm convinced that Djokovic would have played, given Soderling would have done it. Swedish newspapers even reported that Djokovic was going to play the day before the DC-match. The left knee injury is nothing to take seriously at all IMO. He looked very good-spirited during the match, not seeming to worry all that much about any injury.

Anyone know if his knee was actually a problem, or just an excuse to take a break?

He has had issues with that knee for, I believe, years now. It has had tape on it for years now.

When you run like that, it is very likely to have chronic tendinitis.

Yeah, but did he actually re-injure it in the DC match, or is this just a chronic problem he plays with (when he wants to play) and uses as an excuse (when he wants to rest)? I don't get too excited when a tennis player pulls out of tournaments because of injuries. Too often, that's just how it's done.

Good point. I can only guess, I think he is just resting it up and you can play with tendinitis for a period, but you do have to take rests or it becomes completely debilitating.
