If he does it with his current style its going to pretty boring unless someone can force him to open up his game.

That implies Federer will win at least one Slam more before retirement.

It also implies Djokovic has to have at least one Slam more than Federer when both are retired to surpass him.

While first one is not impossible although not very likely, the second one is a childishly oversimplified grasp of the issue.

Giff is a bit funny, but it is not wise to claim what Djokovic can or cannot achieve. As long as he can have either Federer of Nadal or both in competition and have Slam audience clapping on his unforced errors as usual, no limit based on statistics or common sense can be set for Djokovic.

We need to find out who are the winners of AO19 and RG19 first.

I would dispute the idea that he is motivated. Did you see how emotionally flat he was against Zverev? Motivation for him a fluctuating matter.

But according to some of his fans he have already surpassed Federer. They appointed him as the GOAT in August of 2018.

Djokovic attitude usually is strange but at this year ATP Finals was way stranger than usual. In the final against Zverev it looked like he didnt care whether he will lose or win.But in the SF against Anderson it was the opposite.

It's a lose/lose for Djokovic.

If he doesn't win 7+, then ditto; potentially egg on face.

If he does win 7+, then it won't prove how great he is, but rather how sad the tour has truly become.

The word he uses is 'believe', and it is used 3 or 4 times in several sentences. And he also uses 'time will tell'.

Therefore, there is no assumption on his part by any stretch of imagination or lack of comprehension. It takes less than 30 sec to read it before commenting.

Basically he's not going to beat Federer's record, and shouldn't even aim for it - it's just beyond him.

:oops::-D

5 years use of anti depressants medication are on your way!!!
The level of confidence in anyone breaking Federer's Slam record is in direct proportion of that particular player winning the last Slam. I was laughing at the platoon of Djokovic fans throughout 2015 and 2016 when they were predicting Djokovic to break the Slam record. 99% of them are silent now. Some still believe.

If anyone was gonna do it it was Nadal. No chance for Djokovic unless the entire tour collapses and even there I still wouldn't bet on it.

It is very clear that the transition to the next gen is under way. Djokovic did well to grab 2 this year but I am afraid he just has only a chance or two left.

The 3 losses each to Murray and Stan are where he messed it up.

Djokovic needs something to keep him motivated and he needs a goal to strive for. This is basically it. Now I would prefer if he kept this private but being the extrovert he is, that's not really in his personality. He pretty much wears his heart on his sleeve. I have no idea why this would upset anyone though which is strange. Why wouldn't he believe he could do it? What champion of that caliber wouldn't believe they could do it? What should he say? I can only win one more Slam? You always aim for the stars whether you make it there or not.

Just today I accidentally stumbled upon one of your "right ones" :D
But Federer won his 20 at age 37?

You have eaten crows for dinner before so I am okay with your predictions.
I despise people who never predicted anything or made any bets here yet they have the nerve to give others s**t for failed predictions. Bunch of wimps who are afraid of losing. That's why they will never win.

Probably the same in real life. S**tscared to do anything because they are afraid of losing. And they will die as losers.

The likes of Zverev, Khachanov, Thiem (clay only) and perhaps even Tsitsipas might have something to say about it. Also Nadal most likely has another good 2 slams left in him, so given his age, Djoker would be hard pressed to collect at most another 3 slams in the next 2 years (2019-20). Beyond that he’d be lucky to snatch another one, with the NextGen hitting their peak by then and Djoko at 33-34 would be in a noticeable decline. He is is a champion however, and has every right to those kind of goals, though unattainable as they are.

No here has said its a 100% chance he will break that record. Simply saying he has a chance and thats what he is going for.

While you say its MILLION chance he will not. So black and white.

The tough part, apart from maintaining his unbelievable flexibility and performance wil be the steady supply of young guns that will be entering the tour over the decade and beyond

In this case anything is possible. Federer winning another 5 Slams from here is possible. Nadal getting triple bageled at the FO is possible. It's not and it never was probable.

7+ Slams at this age, you people are nuts. Nadal is a year older, barely does anything outside of clay, his body is falling apart and he has a far better chance to break the record. On FO's alone too.

Federer winning slams at the age of 36- testament for his greatness.

Djokovic winning slams at the age of 32-33- the sad state of the tour.

These Fed fanbois. They are crazy bunch isn't it!?
:D

And you have the nerve to speak about safe calls - of all tennis players on tour you had to pick one with most Slams to root for. (n)Really bold pick.

Novak is the preditaor of tennis.
I think its refreshing he just says he goals out loud. Im sure Rafa also wants the records like crazy too.
Just different personalities. Novak is so open minded. Most open minded of them all.

I'm getting reprimanded by someone who roots for a player just because he's from the same country. The nerve.

Maybe if Djokovic wasn't such a bore I'd root for him more.

A lot of really good players are bores. You don't get there by playing exciting tennis. That's why it's so surprising that someone who plays like Federer can achieve so much.

Rafa wants the record as well, probably even more than Djokovic does. Rafa is an introvert and hides his true feelings. It's just who he is. Novak just lets it rip pretty much. LOL. They both will be trying to reach 20. These posters in here are blindsided if they think true champions are happy laying low in the shadows. They want to be the best.

You sound cute when you are angry. I mean look at those blue eyes and that blond hair of yours.

They are already the best , want goat status

Can you identify this ATG?

He wanted to be the best yet he wanted to "lay low in the shadows."

So no, those of us who have watched tennis long before you were born aren't blindsided.
