Djokovic:"This is possibly the match of Tsitsipas' life"

“You can say that this final was expected, considering how we played. There is not a lot of secrets between us. He knows my game, I know his. So far, we haven’t met only on grass. Tsitsipas has matured a lot, he is 25 and at the peak of his abilities. This is possibly the match of his life – he is playing for a world No 1 and a Grand Slam title, against me,” Djokovic said.
“He is going to be really motivated and he is playing well, you can see the progress. But I know what to do tactically, I have played some of my best matches in Melbourne. I am ready to go to distance: if it’s five sets, then it’s five sets; if it’s five hours, then five hours. I am looking forward to it.”

“A message cannot get much stronger than dominating sets in the latter phase of a slam. My opponents and their teams are always watching, monitoring my matches looking for some weaknesses. So, the more dominant, the better, because then I know that I can get into the head of my opponents: they know they have to play the best match of their life to beat me. I am glad it’s that way.”

For the last few days in Melbourne, Djokovic – whose injured hamstring is taped and he hasn’t practiced on off-days during the tournament – was also accompanied by Marijana Kovacevic, renowned doctor known most for her work with football stars such as Vincent Kompany, Robin van Persie, Diego Costa and others.

“I can’t go into too much detail, but I am very grateful to her. I also had a lot of treatments all over Melbourne, trying to get to as many experts as possible. Marijana flew across the world to help me, working for her did me good and I can feel the benefits on the court.”

Well yeah Stefanos has lost 9 straight matches to the guy. He knows he’s gotta bring his A game to have a chance. I think Djoker sounds a little overconfident here, it’s definitely intentional. I guess he has every right to be given that he’s won 9 of these titles before LOL

Well someone has to hype these mugs up. After going 0 for life against the old foges, I guess the old foges have to do it. The media doesn't have much to work with at this point. 3 guys have won 98 percent of the slams for the last 20 years

Djokovic playing mind games as usual?

If he knows what's good for him Tsitsipas should isolate himself from any comments made by Djokovic or anybody else ahead of the match.

I just realized how f****** funny it would be if Stef went up 2 sets again like ‘21 FO, and then choked to lose in 5 against the guy he’s lost 9 times in a row to, the FO to, and now the AO in front of a huge support base AND the world #1. Would blow Medvedev vs Nadal soul taking out of the water. Legendary scenes, even funnier if he never got the chance again

It would. Djoker is way worse on clay than hards though so I don't know if that happens unless Tstsi miracles 2 TB's in the first 2 sets.

Tsitsipas might be in trouble. I said it in the match thread but Djokos on court interview sounded like he knows he is gonna win. He is as confident as ever.

Tsitsipas psyche needs to be on another level tomorrow. If he just a little bit scared and unsure Djoko will wipe the floor with him.

I'm looking forward to this match. Lets see what happens.

Wtf are you guys reading? Mind games? Novak is as subtle as a brick, about as straightforward as you can get.

His message is literally, “I’m the best, this is bigger for you than me. Bring it, but I’m going to win”

dude Is outwardly talking trash. What sort of narrative are you guys constructing in your head

Hahahaha. I love this guy. He’s refreshingly honest, in this bizarrely overly diplomatic sports universe.

He just basically said that ST has no chance. But he’s not overtly disrespecting his opponent. Gonna be a tennis bloodbath. Others should take note.

I feel for the opposition for the next 2 years. Will leave a mark.

I don't even see the trash talking- its just a pretty straight forward presser- unless people here think Stef doesn't realise its a big game?

I don't know about that one. Given he might be the hardest worker in Tennis and has all the crazy work routine and diet, this week with the injury - being hooked up to machines and spending all day with his physio just to be able to win the tournament, difficult to say that anyone cares about it more than him.

Because Djokovic wants to make it look legit or cause Tstsi can make it happen though?
Tiley have told Joker: "Mate, play 'possum' for a while, take it to 5 sets and then strike down the Greek, so your victory will be more legendary".
The Serbian Wolf: "So I will".

It seems like Djokovic is being more direct in his interviews this week than usual. He is feeling very cocky and I guess he has been playing at a level where he feels like he can back it up.

I would like to see Tsitsipas play well, punch him in the mouth, bloody him early (metaphorically speaking), win the first set and give us a competitve match. If Novak shows up in great form like in the 2019 and 2021 finals in Melbourne, it will not be an entertaining match although we might see a high level of tennis being played by him.

I don't like this. Current tennis is really moving towards a WWE WWF whatever like trash talk ****show ... like pretty much every sport.

Two players competing? No, make a drama about every little bs and trash talk my opponent.

Tennis once had class ... no it's like "TT's GPPD section + actual skills - fine sense of humor"

Does anyone remember last time djok tried putting pressure on his opponent?
Didn't seem to work out for him
Only reveals his own lack of confidence
He will never lead the slam race

Marijana Kovacevic caused some controvery years ago with placenta-based massage therapy for hamstring injuries. Interesting!

He puts pressure on opponent by serving and returning well and getting so many balls back deep basically
