Djokovic trails Federer 16-17 in BO3

LMAO no, Djokovic will never be the GOAT.
As I have emphasised objectively and accurately in one of my previous threads:
Sinner is miles better than Djokovic on hard
Nadal, Borg, Tsitsipas and Ruud are miles better than Djokovic on clay
Federer and Sampras are better than Djokovic on grass
Those 24 Slams mean nothing if vast majority of them were won against weak era opponents.
It's over.
You haven't understood, he is.

Ok, this is true. Djokovic did completely outclass Fed in 2011, as he did everyone. Still worth mentioning that Federer still was the one giving him more trouble than anyone else on the tour (including Nadal and Murray), despite barely holding onto his #3 spot. Beat him at RG, and making him pull the Houdini act at USO.

Again, goes back to my point about that rivalry being about this rivalry being evenly matched and the favorite always being whoever's better at the moment. In 2011 that was Djokovic by far and away. Meanwhile Murray kept winning matches against Fed that he had no business winning in BO3, and with a consistent & effective gameplan.

2011 Djokovic was an opportunist vulturing weak competition. If he had to face anyone on the level of 2024 Sinner, he wouldn't have won a single Big Title that year.

Federer got lucky and was able to vulture many slams during the weak era until Nadal, Novak, and company came to bring justice to the criminal

Djokovic never solved the Federer serve+1.

He never figured Roger out. He solved almost every other differential equation that came across his path in his career… but never Roger.

This record is special to me. It’s one of the most admirable achievements in tennis history really. Even until the bitter end Federer had Djokovic chasing him, not the other way around. He always found a way to remain on the front foot and asking the questions. I’ll never forget the bamboozled look on Novak’s face during much of their match at YEC 2019.

This was a great rivalry with no clear victor at any stage of it. And Federer never failed to dazzle, even close to 40.
Even at the 2020 AO, when Federer was almost on crutches, he was somewhat close to breadsticking Djokovic in the first set.
