Djokovic v Medvedev v Zverev - The big three way rivalry of 2022

The three have played some big matches this year against each other, plus have won the majority of the big titles of the 2021 season.

Between the three of them, they have won
AO, Madrid, RG, W, Olympics, Canada, Cincinnati, USO, Paris and WTF

Interestingly, all three combinations have split the last two meetings with each other. I think in 2022, these three will be will be rivalry of the season, unless Tsitsipas can bring himself into the mix. I think in the off season, the three of them will be looking on how to continue to counter act the other two, as they are basically the ones blocking each other in general from the big titles.

Bruhhh
Djokovic leads the head to head with both this year. Its not two wins each

I don't see Nadal playing a full season, hence not mentioning him, the others I expect throughout the season.

I am refering to their last two matches only.

Djokovic v Medvdev - USO final, Paris Indoors final
Djokovic v Zverev - USO semi, WTF semi
Zverev v Medvedev - WTF RR, WTF final

Only Ultronians are interested in the three way of Djokovic, Med & Zed.

TTWers are more interested in the three way of Fed, Bull & Thiem while tennis fans can't wait to see the three way of Murray, Wawrinka & Delpo in action again.
Were all of them fully fit at the late 2019 season other than Andy?!

These are my BOLD predictions for 2022:

AO: Novak/Zverev
FO: Zverev (can't get bolder than that)
Wimbledon: Novak
USO: Medvedev

- Zverev end the year as Number 1
- Nadal, Federer, Thiem end the year with no trophies (and poor results) with Federer most likely retiring mid-year.
- Medvedev and Zverev dominate the Masters with Zverev sweeping the clay season and Medvedev winning most of the HCs.

It’s only normal that next year’s rivalry would be between world no.1-3. Maybe Thiem and Tsitsipas could join if they’re healthy.

Tennis fans think that last trio has retired

I see DJoker as a non-entity at the non slams. He'll only be looking to peak at slams. And probably retire in 2023 (Depending on what Nadal does next year)

I will be very surprised if Novak wins an 8th YE#1 next year. It looks like this may be between Med and Zed, and which of them do better off HCs.
Novak has an edge over both of them on clay and grass, at least for now, but his less busy schedule won't allow him to take year-end unless he wins at least two slams, with at least one more final.
Of course, we'll see what Rafa, Tsit, Thiem and several others bring to the table. Unlike so many here, I think that there are a lot of very good players. Almost any player in history would suffer by comparison to The Big 3.

Unfortunately, only one of these rivalries is still alive. The other two are history. I would not discount Rafa (and perhaps Thiem depending on the extent of his injury) by any means, so the realistic one would probably be Djokovic, Med, Zed, Rafa, Thiem....

Fed won't just retire mid-year, that's silly.

I agree about Thiem. He is done. But Rafa isn't.

Clay is going to gradually go back to what it was pre-Rafa: a retriever's paradise with a revolving door of winners that hardly/never win anywhere else. I think we will see that this year, but there is no way that RG will go to anyone not named Rafa or Novak.

I think we are about to enter the unknown. It could be something like what happened when Pete faded and Andre was the only one of the old guard left. At that point things were unpredictable, with many people emerging but on one really dominating for long. I think some of the younger guys are going to become factors, or may. Remember, it used to be that people dominated slams right about age 24 to the very beginning of age 25. Wow, how that has changed over the last few years!!!

Let the OP have his moment, he who laughs last laughs best.
Yes, Nadal who has been skipping a lot of events since 2018 is all of a sudden going to be playing the full season in 2022, coming back from a foot injury.

Know the difference between still being competitive for slams, which Nadal still is, and having a season long rivalry, which this thread is about.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Tsitsipas might be seriously injured and could be out for a while. Sucks, because he was really beginning to look the part of a contender. Maybe Thiem will be back in full flight, plus Rafa will be back in whatever condition he can muster, and regardless he's still a threat in any individual match.

So yeah, Djoker, Med, and Zed, plus Thiem and Rafa next season should be an entertaining one. We might even get a serious push from youngsters Alcaraz and Sinner. We'll see. I'm excited!

If Tsitsipas is injured till clay or even clay starting point and misses MC he will have a big fall in ranking, let see

Zverev is now only 800 points behind Med in Ranking.
So unless Med repeats his atp cup and AO of last year, Zverev might take number 2 ranking

I like the matches between any 3 of these guys . But today it was a blow out , bad bad for med and good day for z . Hope to see 4 slams split between nole, med, Z, nadal . That would be great for tennis just like 2012 .

It would be a shame if Tsitsipas is injured, because on clay, the top guys are him, Rafa and Novak, with Zverev just a slight step behind, though I expect a better clay season from him in 2022.

Don't think any one player will truly dominate in 2022, think we will have a few different players having big wins. The times are changing, Next Gen is very much the Now Gen.

We are already in that stage, IMO.

If we're going full r3tard and actually predicting Zod to win majors next year, why doesn't he have a shot at Wimbledon on the green clay? After how he played Novak in the WTF SF, it's pretty clear to me that he can shut Novak down at any stage in the rallies.

It wouldn't be anywhere near 2012. A year like that isn't happening again.

Because you can call green clay all week but it will be still grass.
Problem with Med and Zverev is not the game but movement on that so called green clay.
Med looked slow this year against HH of all people

Certainly feels like Connors competing in the time of Lendl, Wilander, etc.

Although imagine a stronger Connors and weaker Lendl.

I think this keeps going for at least 3 more seasons.

There is no rivalry between the others and Djoke.

They know well Djoke is the past and they are the future.

When he's losing to Zod anyone claiming to be the mightiest warrior needs psychiatric support.
And I know he's seeking it.

I think Zverev isnt going to be that much of a power in the next year. He doesn't have the same work ethic as some of the younger guys like Alcaraz. During off-season he might decline. I think if they meet Alcaraz will beat him at the AO. Thiem can also come back strong. Medvedev isn't going to do well on clay and grass, as per usual.

Alcaraz is like 2 or even 3 good years from contending for the Slam titles. Zverev is at his Peak of his abilities right now. If that matchup really happens at the 22 AO it's gonna be a no contest.
