Djokovic v Nadal - Race to YE#1 2018

It isn't the best finish for Nadal. Wish him a quick recovery.
But this way is definitely better than how 2016 ended, when Novak and Murray damaged their body for the YE#1 race. Novak won 2 GS and 4 ATP1000, but finished #2 that year. That was sick.

Boo hoo

There was tension all the way to the end.

Those who are experts on the rankings, what are the scenarios now IF Nadal plays YECs? Can Djokovic make sure here in Paris that he won't need to win the YECs to clinch the YE#1?

Djokovic needs almost 1500 points from now on. So if Djokovic wins Paris, he only needs 600 points, which is go 3-0 in RR or go 2-1 or 1-2 and win the semifinal.

If Djokovic loses the final in Paris, he can also finish YE#1 if he goes 3-0 in RR and loses the final to Nadal.

Djoko loses before the semi, it's just about who does better at the WTF and if they do equally well Djoko gets it

If Djoko reaches precisely the semifinal in Paris, Rafa needs 400 points more which is 2RR matches or the difference between a semi and a final, but it could also mean Nadal has to win if he loses points to Djokovic in RR.

Thanks for this man!

It is interesting, but why does everyone think that Djokovic is suddenly going to win everything? LOL
The guy has won 1 tournament, albeit the biggest in tennis, but hes still not consistent.
It would take something unbelievable for a 30+ year old Djokovic to come back into his best form again and win most of these tournaments.
I really don't think he is capable. People need to accept that players aren't their 2 years ago selves anymore.
Nadal doesn't need to worry about all that, Djokovic wont be winning Cinci, USO, WTF, Shanghai and Beijing LOL Maybe 1 or 2, but there are plenty of guys more than capable of winning these.

Ultron didn't take part in Beijing and is the biggest favorite of the WTF. Your forecast has not met ;)

I'll be reasonable - at the time this wasn't an unreasonable post.

But still. Rekt lol.

After Djokovics performance this week in Paris he needs:

to go 3-0 in the group stage to secure the YE#1. Even if he'd then go on and lose the final to Nadal he's still the YE#1.

So three victories in the group stage is all he needs after this week in Paris. Of course all this is dependant on Nadal actually playing at all. If Nadal withdraws, then Djoko doesn't have to do anything.

Definitely not the way I wanted this to close out, but the Race is over.

Novak is our new Year-End #1. Congratulations to him and everyone who supported him even in his darkest moments.

To Nadal fans: Your man gave a great fight. A few points here and there, and he could have won Wimbledon, and he'd be in this position right now. If he hadn't drawn Thiem, his injuries might not have been so dire against Del Potro, and Nadal could be sitting atop all other players. For all the tournaments he entered, Nadal has been a powerhouse. Unfortunately, his body won't let him play too many tournaments.

To Djokovic fans: He did it. We knew he could, and he did. But this is no time to stop and be complacent! Let's cheer him on to his 6th WTF! :)

Thank you to everyone who didn't just dismiss this thread as soon as it was created. There was a lot of vitriol thrown my way for it, so thank you to those who were civil.

Idemo.
