122 consecutive weeks at #1

Sampras

Did anyone believe 10 years ago that Novak could surpass/equal nearly all of the PETE's important stats?

10 years ago, no, but after '11 I knew it was a real possibility. Still hoping he edges out Fedal in the Slam race.

P.S. Pistol was the real #1 in '99, or at least has as strong a case as, say, '60 (Big) Pancho. So it's quite arguable these two boast the most years as #1 in the pre/post-OE. Yet another similarity between these two GOATs.

I wouldn't say he's passed ALL Sampras' important records. But he's been super impressive and is ahead of or equal to Sampras in almost every category. Truly a remarkable player and he's likely to win even more

Sampras is better on grass and fast hard.

Djokovic is better on slow hard and clay.

Indoors they are pretty even, although Sampras was playing on carpet in those days.

Overall they are pretty close I would say. ;)

Sampras was the best of his era. Djokovic is the 3rd best of his era. Sorry.

Djoker passed Sampras years ago in the #1 tiebreaker outside of slams - career slam. Pete was a complete no show on one surface.

It's funny that, today, the real #1 tiebreaker is rarely brought up on this forum. Why? Nadal, Fed and Djoker all have a career slam, so no one can be hurt by referencing it, and if referencing it doesn't somehow benefit your player, what's the point?

Djokovic's career winrate on grass: 84.1%
Sampras' career winrate on grass: 83.5%

Djokovic's career winrate on clay: 80.1%
Sampras' career winrate on clay: 63%

Djokovic's career winrate on HC: 84.4%
Sampras' career winrate on HC: 80.6%

Djokovic's career winrate indoors: 78.6%
Sampras' career winrate indoors: 77.7%

Sampras literally wins in nothing and loses really badly on clay, so how on earth is that "overall pretty close"?
