Djokovic vs Wawrinka Forehand

I am wondering what actually is the difference between those two?

Thy have similar grips and a similar takeback.

But somehow djokovics just looks smoother and more consistent.

Further Nole is one of the best returners and Wawrinka often just blocks/slices his returns.
It seems like Wawrinka just needs a bit more time to set up.
but why?

if you compare them in slow motion thy look quite similar.

Wawrinka tends to chip/block returns for two reasons. 1. He has a ohbh 2. He uses a more extreme forehand grip for his ROS that limits his range on forehand return side. If you notice, Novak uses a less extreme fh grip on his forehand for ROS and a more “extreme” version for his groundstrokes. Disclaimer: Not sure on these, just my observations.

I know Wawrinka crushes high forehands probably due to his superior strength. He also hits a heavier ball than Djokovic. I think a front side camera angle would reveal some key details but I'm too lazy atm to check it.

It goes down to play style. Wawrinka has the one handers which is better at power and spin, worse at rushed or awkward balls.

Wawrinka struggles to change grip on serve return so he slices a lot. Djokovic has the two hands on the racquet, no grip change. 2hbh is better for rushed balls (return of serve).

1hbh is better for staying in control, 2hbh is better for wrestling control of the point.

Their forehands seem dictated by their backhands imo, but also their playstyles: Djokovic moves better, Stan hits harder.

Djokovic has a higher take-back. Wawrinka has a split second pause after dropping racquet.

Wawrinka chips returns probably cause he needs time to switch grips, or that's just his style. Djokovic known for his ROS.

yeah thats what I noticed. djokovics take-back is higher, this maybe a reason why it looks smoother

Stan is more or less just cocking up his wrist and then going back, while djokovic loops more...
