Djokovic wants his dad as new head of Serbian Tennis

Serbia's top tennis player Novak Djokovic has expressed support for his father's initiative to topple the country's tennis federation (TSS) leadership and the body's president Slobodan Zivojinovic.

"I'm really sorry that the situation is almost out of control but changes are inevitable," world number three Djokovic said on his website.

"The Tennis Association needs new people in order to finally build a national tennis centre and provide better conditions for young talents to progress.

"I have to say my father has no intention of taking any position in the TSS, but to present to all clubs the functioning of the concept he represents.

"He does it very successfully and we fully support him because prosperity and well-being are guaranteed with the new management," said Djokovic, who posted his comments in his online diary while holidaying in Dubai.

Djokovic's father Srdjan said last week that the TSS deserved no credit for Serbia's Davis Cup success and called on Zivojinovic to step down.

His public statement was backed by coach Bogdan Obradovic and the players, but Zivojinovic replied that he would run for another four-year term in office.

Something is lost in translation, both Nole and his Dad said Srdjan doesn't have intention to be leader of Serbian tennis federation, it's just Srdjan calling on some needed changes as he (and players) feel TSS deserves no credit for recent success..

what credentials does his father possess to acquire such position?

On the other hand, Richard and Oracene did extremely well without any coaching credential. I love the serve training Serena and Venus had to undergo. Richard made them throw rackets with their serving arms. Unorthodox but efficient. Serena has the greatest woman serve ever.

so yes...daddy djokovic can manage the whole thing.

This feels like a plot by the Djokovic family....hungry for power...soon tennis domination. Djoker becomes world number one...Father takes over TSS...then one day they control the ATP world! McEnroe failed there...but Djoker is ready!

I'm sorry, can you not read English? His father does not want the presidential position nor any other position in the TSS, as has been clearly stated. They just want changes(rather than give them another term in which to do nothing) because the current establishment which have been in operation for the last seven years has done not an iota to improve conditions and opportunities for any possible emerging talents in the country. It is also significant to note that this motion is backed by ALL the other players on the Davis Cup Team as well as team coach( not some Djokovic power trip as people like to make out). The players would know best what is needed to make it and it is true that the TSS had no part in the Davis Cup success.Every one of these players got zero help from the TSS when they were coming through.Credit to them all, that even though they're done with the system and have now made it, they actually still care about making things better for future generations, though it's not going to benefit them personally

@Opener, you know your thread title is ridiculous when quotes from your opening article contradict it

My fault. I clearly misinterpreted the article as saying that Djokovic wanted his dad to be the new head.

It still sounds as if he wants some form of power, even if it's not the presidency itself.

I was just kidding...I know he doesn't want the title. But you never know...what can happen!

The elections are happeneing very shortly. If he wanted a place, he would have already officially put himself forward, which is obviously the only way you can be elected. If you don't run, you won't be elected and he's not running(with the elections only a few of weeks away) so it's a no-brainer
