Djokovic will be afraid to play Nadal at Roland Garros 2015

Love the way that people forget that not that long ago, Novak beat Dull 7 straight times, and at least 2 of those were on dirt. But, don't say it, I'm way ahead of you, this is ROLAND GARROS, and it's BEST OF FIVE. Don't think Novak is any slouch in the stamina department, whereas Dull looked pretty gassed after only two sets in his straight set trip to the woodshed, but many assume that BO5 he reigns. What they don't realize, or refuse to admit, is this is old Dull, not the Dull of old.

I can admit it, and I think it's awesome he had to decline this far for haters to make even a reasonably cocky statement :p

Best of 5 matters though on clay...it's not just about stamina but will breaking.

I agree it's not everything though, another factor it's harder is the pressure/legend of Nadal getting to Nole imo.

Why call players names? His surname is Nadal. That is some MTF s**t right there. How would you feel people if called Djokovic Faker and Federer Fraud?

you heard it here folks, nadal will win the french open forever as long as he plays.

All the evidence suggests that - last year Ferrer beat Nadal in straight sets at Monte Carlo but had no answers at Roland Garros, and last year Almagro beat Nadal at Barcelona but was nowhere to be seen at Roland Garros - so the difference between Roland Garros and everywhere else is clear as day.

Djokovic is not afraid to play Nadal anywhere. Djokovic may have a slight mental block vs Nadal at the FO (as Federer did) but I would never say Djokovic is afraid to play Nadal. That is not how the minds of these ATGs work.

If Nadal can't up his level greatly by the time the FO rolls around he may not make it to Djokovic and if he does, Djokovic has a great chance to finally defeat him. Probably his best ever and this is the first year I have ever thought that.

Pretty much this.

It's silly to say that Djokoic would be scared to play Nadal

Afraid???!!! jajajajajaaj + LoL.

Rafa is not the same, and novak is playing an excellent tennis. But you know, it´s a very particular sport, you can lose or win by multiple factors.

His best shot was in 2011: NADAL WAS AFRAID TO PLAY HIM, but Djokovic lost to Federer in the semis.

That was his BEST chance--Nadal was reeling from consecutive losses; he was a psychological basket case. He would have been carted off in a stretcher

The longer this goes on, however, the more of a block it will become. I don't believe that Nadal is deteriorating as fast as others think he is. Besides, if Nadal squeaks past Djokovic then Djkoker's block will become huge.

It's a do or die year for Djokovic. If he wins later, his victory will become "tainted" (TT talk talk--write write--babble babble). It will mean little to beat a "sub-Prime Nadal"

Yeah, just like Federer.

Wouldn't bother me on bit. It's economical, saves letters, and it kind of describes him. Win, win, win.

Nadal is the same now as 2014, except 2014 was worse because he lost to 2 Spaniards in the clay season (Ferrer in straight sets at Monte Carlo, and Almagro at Barcelona).

Of course Nadal's record at Roland Garros mustn't be written off and he'll be very difficult to beat.

However, the past does not determine the future. Just because he's won before doesn't mean he'll win this time. We KNOW that there will come a time when Nadal isn't going to win Roland Garros. He won't win it when he's 45, even if he's won it 15 times by then.

I'm not really buying the mental block explanation. He's not losing because of a mental block, he's losing because Nadal has been a better player at RG every year. Same thing happened to Federer. That wasn't a mental block, that was just Nadal being better at RG.

Yeah, the only year where Djokovic wasn't just comprehensively outplayed was 2013, and even then Nadal was definitely the better player. People sometimes like to cite 2012 and say that Nadal got lucky with the rain delay, but the only reason Djokovic won that string of games in the first place was because of the extremely damp and wet conditions negating Nadal's spin. If conditions had been normal throughout, Nadal probably would have won in straight sets that year.

I always laugh at that too. He was smoking Djokovic before it started raining. If the rain had held off that match would've been a complete beat down. Djokovic was just as lucky that it started raining as much as Nadal was lucky they called the match.

The bolded part itself creates a mental block over time.

True, but is he losing today because of the mental block that's been created as you say? I'd say no. At least not fully anyway. I haven't seen him seriously underperform at RG against Nadal. Nadal was way too good in 2012 and Djoker did well in 2013 apart from running into the net, but I wouldn't call that mental. That was just Novak being bad at the net as usual. You might be able to say it for 2014, but even then Djoker was sick. That's not mental either unless he got so nervous that he started spitting up water on the court. It's not like everybody knows 100% that Novak will lose if they play this year because of previous years. All we can really say is that the better player won every year so far, and that's been Nadal.

Even in warm up results Nadal was better in 2012 and 2013. 2014 is about even so Nadal won RG. Not really surprising for an 8 time champion right? :)

This year, unless Nadal's forms drastically improves, is the first year where I would say Djokovic is the favourite, full stop.

He WILL raise his level. This is a given. Nadal will NOT CRASH OUT of the FO.

I believe that Djokoic IS afraid of Nadal at the FO. Look at what happened in the past. Nobody in their right mind would not be afraid. Until he is beaten by Federer (impossible, basically) or Djokovic (possible, but unlikely) everyone will be afraid.

If Nadal isn't injured, this fear HAS TO show up: Nadal is capable of coming back from essentially any score. Everyone knows this. Tennis scoring is brutal.

I have money on Nadal (compensation for me if he wins as I would prefer Djokovic--I certainly would prefer Federer). Foggy would be a blast that would be felt far and wide for a long long time! Now THAT would be tremendous to see, especially if he beat Nadal in the final.

fear starts kicking in once rafa settles down in the tournament and plays like a boss......fed was like a terrified little kid in all those finals......djoko seemingly not so much but he still has that fear......nadal inflicted fear in him by beating him repeatedly at RG......he is 6-0 over djoko at RG for a reason......his compatriot tipsarevic said that beating nadal on clay is by far the most difficult task in tennis for everyone on tour......

the scariest part about nadal on clay is you know what you are going to get from him even before you step on court, but you also know that you can't do anything to counter it, can't do much about it......no mysteries or secret weapons, just relentless hitting from the back for hours and hours......

so djoko will be mad and a bit puzzled too......fear inflicts confusion as well......should i play all out attack, or should i hold back, or should i just react to his game, or should i have a surprise plot this time......pressure is on djokovic.......

also i want to highlight something which i said in the past and same thing echoed by nadal himself later, see what nadal says about his own game.......

'Some people get very confused about my game,’ he argued. ‘They think it’s better if the court is slow, because I have a good defence. But the faster it is, the better for me. My spin is more painful for my opponents, my aggressive game works better.'

that is exactly what i said many times here and at MTF......rafa likes fast courts......he lost to fed and djoko majority times on slow *** courts......

Is that why he lost to Rosol Darcis and Kyrgios at Wimbledon?

First step is denial...

I'm not that confident that Rafa will win RG this year. But somehow I think he'll do it, especially if Nadal isn't drawn on Djokovic's half... there's a chance that Djokovic will not be at the final, anyway.

I think Nadal like high bounce more than slow court. Low bounce is really what kills his game, like in first week of W, WTF and the wet RG court in 2012 final during the rain. He can handle fast courts if the bounce is high.

But the problem with his claim is that usually fast and low bounce go together, so do slow and high bounce.

Shocking that he has had any success!

roland garros and us open are fast with high bounce, suits his style perfectly......aus open is medium slow with low bounce and wimbledon is fast with low bounce......but you see he has 5 finals at wimbledon and won twice, he also won queens title......so i don't get why his wimbledon performances are often thrown into the mix......his losses at wimbledon have got more to do with injuries than early round low bounce adjustments......nadal proved all through his career that he can adjust to any surface when he is not troubled with fitness issues......

Good call, me too. Nadal was right in that match and could have won. I was only upset that he didn't win another AO, but I knew the cute little year of Novak beating him was about to be a wrap. (and I meant what's your fav Rocky movie)?

add murray to the list as well......he will be terrified to look at nadal if they meet at RG......

@michaelnadal

the first part was the best......

who can face this man and hold their ground on the red clay of court philippe chatrier?

Honestly... This feels like it's going to happen this year. Djokovic is steamrolling, and he's got the experience that he didn't have in 2011. There's also probably no way Federer or anyone else stops him...

Djokovic to win RG IMHO.
