Djoker will almost certainly move ahead of Federer for YE # 1 this year and tie Pete's record
Djoker is looking likely to be number 1 for at least another year which will see him break the weeks at # 1 record
Djoker needs to win one more WTF in his career to equal Pete & Fed. He is certainly capable of this
He is one behind Rafa in terms of M1000 titles and has a good chance of holding that record by the end of his career
Winning H2H against the two other greatest of all time players
The one question mark with Djoker has always been his slam count. He seems hell-bent on rectifying that at the moment. It is almost certain that he will end with the most convincing resume of all three guys.

As the records begin to tumble you can guarantee that this place will melt down with. 'Playing ''beautiful'' tennis means that Fed will always be GOAT' threads.

Hmm, what I find even more interesting is whether Nadal fans hate Federer more than they like Rafa. This is coming to light through Novak’s surgence.

Seeing as Nadal will be behind both Federer and Djokovic and there have been NO threads discussing this matter, I think the trend is already clear :)

Maybe behind Djokovic, but not behind Federer.

If he has the slam record, he would undoubtedly be considered the GOAT as that is literally the only thing that Federer and Nadal have on him.

Djokovic, by far and large, is already considered the BOAT... and it's not even close.

As much as I like Borg (my first tennis idol), he lost the status of a mental giant when he ran away from Mac. I think the most of his mental greatness is assigned to him due to the cool demeanor he had around thr court. We don't really know what was going on inside...

Another interesting point about Borg: He couldn't get anywhere with graphite frame, during his unfortunate return attempt. It's something to think about, regarding the equipment...

I don't think Borg ran away from Mac at all.

Read Borg's autobiography if you can get your hands on it. It explains exactly why Borg left the sport when he did. It had absolutely nothing to do with McEnroe.

As for Borg's "comeback". I think that was more out of desperation driven by a need for money. The game changed significantly over the period Borg was away from it. He was 34yo when he returned. It was never going to amount to anything regardless of the equipment. He might have been better to stick with his Donnay Allwood. LOL.

If your definition of GOAT is whomever has the most slams then, yes, winning the most slams would make him the greatest. That’s never been my view though.

I’ve always taken a broader view and think that the Big 3 are already pretty close to each other. You can argue for each of them depending on what you focus on. Nole winning more slams will be nice for me as a Nole fan but won’t change too much my view of his standing among tennis greats.

I find it interesting that the press is already beginning to shift its tune on the GOAT debate.

Indeed, the press drives the damn GOAT debate. They’re not happy unless one person can be nominated as the bestest ever.

I like the reasoning, especially on the come back.
I didn't read his a/b, I'll try. However, I don't think anyone would just say the opponent was so much better, he made me hide. That would be a real Ice Man.
We'll never know, I guess...

Was just rewatching the 40:15 moment. Fed serves two aces in a row to reach double CP and then comes close to serving a third ace.

Think of how different everything would be today but for one single ball moving a few inches. Fed would have beaten Nole, the “greatest returner “, by serving three straight aces. 21 slams, 9 Wimbledons. Most would be saying that 2014/15 had been avenged.

I think we react too much to what, in the end, are small differences between truly great players.

Gotta give credit for your perspective Gabe. The only Djokovic fans that are annoying me at the moment are those that are ignoring that he was twice an unreturned serve away from defeat.

Paper thin margins at the very top, how it should be with sport at it’s best.

32-year-old Djokovic loses in 2019: at peak
32-year-old Federer loses in 2013: retiree

Exactly. Djokovic trolls need to make their mind up is Fed at age 33 and 34 peak or not? And if yes why did peak world no 1 just won a bunch of slams in a row lose in finals including straight set beatdowns to mugs like Zverev, Kachanov, Wawrinka, Murray (Fedals slam pigeon) etc.

Fed is Djokodal's slam pigeon. No other explanation needed.

Funny cos Djokovic has been straight setted, bagelled, breadsticked and all in slam finals by Feddal :-D:-D:-D:-D True pigeon hood

But then again he has been straight setted by non ATGs such as Mugray in slam finals too and has lost 3 slam finals to non ATG Mugrinka too :-D:-D:-D:-D:-D Literal pigeon hood. Not even 1 win :-D:-D:-D

Can't even get the facts straight... Which 3 Slam finals did he lose to Wawrinka?

And if Djokovic is such a "pigeon," what does it say about Fed when his last win against Djokovic in a Slam final came 12 years ago? Four straight losses since then

Djokovic has never been straight setted in a Slam final by Nadal and never been bageled in a Slam by either one. He's straight setted Nadal though and the only time Federer straight setted him was in 2007 in his first Slam final of his career.

10-6 and 10-4 vs losing 100 percent of all your slam final matches vs a non ATG :-D:-D:-D or in finals vs Zverev i.e. pigeon hood. When Djokovic scores a SINGLE win vs Wawrinka in a slam final or a SINGLE finals win vs Zverev hes officially out of the pigeon hood club... come on Djokovic just get 1 win in :laughing::laughing:... come on Djokovic, no more slam final losses in straight sets please :-D:-D:-D:-D and definitely not to mugray

I'm not sure, you'll have to ask fans that hate Federer because I don't. He's a legend of our sport that has transended it into the mainstream.

What about Nadal though? Is he destined to be viewed as the number two forever?

That will be up to Nadal to decide over the next couple of years. He has more work to do at the moment though.

At this stage, the best position Rafa could put himself in to stake his GOAT claim would be to hold the slam record on retirement, hold the M1000 record, win at least one WTF and have another stint at # 1 to push his weeks into the 200's and his YE to 5. That certainly wouldn't be decisive but it would put him well in the conversation.

Sounds like you're saying Djokovic should be winning every single final he competes in, which seems a tad unrealistic to me. I mean even the BOAT is allowed to have off days.

Pete did it six years in a row.

True. Aesthetics matter. It may explain why Fed has to some extent transcended tennis but Butt Picker and Ball Bouncer have not. Even people that do not like tennis can appreciate Federer’s game.

If aesthetics matter then Gasquet is GOAT. It doesn't matter at all though - winning matters. If Fed played like he does but won as much as Gasquet, no one would care.

I have never liked the look of Ricky’s BH but I know a lot of other tennis fan do. And the rest of Ricky’s game is, I think, more universally considered unattractive especially that FH.

Fed’s entire game is sublime.

As a Federer and Nadal fan I feel very lucky that I watched these two players at their best. Federer in his prime had the super footwork, greatest forehand etc, Nadal in his prime was a force that would break you down and could get to any ball in the court. For me these two will be the greatest of all time - always.

Djokovic with 16 grand slams at the age of 32 will almost certainly finish with the most gentlemen's grand slam singles titles. The Wimbledon 2019 final showed us that a medium Djokovic is capable of winning grand slams in this era and he has the body and the physic to keep playing at this level till 38. So he will have the grand slams record and the weeks at number one head to heads etc, and probably a boat load of other records from Federer and Nadal.

There is no one that can challenge Djokovic if he remains fit. On grass it's Federer, and his body won't be able to last much longer at this level, you can't change biology and nature. On clay Nadal again you feel is coming to the end of his career because of the intensity and age, and Thiem looks active. On hard courts the only player that could convincingly challenge and boss Djokovic is probably a souped up Wawrinka, but he's 34 so that is looking unlikely.

But I don't really care, Federer and Nadal at their very best, in my opinion, were a level beyond Djokovic. I haven't seen Djokovic produce the type of shot making and pure brilliance that Federer and Nadal have done in matches like Wimbledon 2007 Wimbledon 2008 Australian Open 2009.

How does that sit with you? It doesn't bother me too much because I value the greatest of all time on quality, not just consistency.
Having watched tennis for 30 odd years Djokovic 2011 was better than anything the other two produced. Especially what he did to Nadal, that was brutal

The statement was correct at the time it was posted.

I said Djokovic had never been bageled, not that he wouldn't ever get bageled in the future

Joker will most likely be the tennis player with the most GS titles, but that doesn't mean he will win as many of these tournaments in the future, as you and your cronies would have you believe.
