Djokovic had said last time that this contribution was not much in the Laver Cup victory.

I was hoping he would participate this year and make a statement.

I think Rafa winning the RG and distancing himself from Novak has made him uncomfortable and he is thinking of achieving some personal laurels.

Few years down the line, folks would look for Laver Cup Victories in career accomplishments and I feel Novak is missing a chance there.

A shame, to be sure, but probably the best decision if Novak wants to keep #1. The late season is key for him because that's where he has all his ranking points. If Nadal sustains his form from the last month, it will take nothing short of a Godly late season to hold him off. He'll need all the energy he can get for it, and skipping the Laver Cup will help.

Not surprised at all. I knew he wasn't playing it. He did it last year to be a good sport but no way was he going to this year when he could go to his pet tournament in Beijing instead which he hasn't been to in about 4 years now.
