Optimistic Forecast:

Djokovic will win 3 of the next 5 titles at the Australian Open, 2 of the next 5 titles at Wimbledon, and 2 of the next 5 titles at the US Open. That would put his slam total at 23, and he would be 37 years old.

Pessimistic Forecast:

Djokovic will win 1 of the next 3 titles at the Australian Open, 1 of the next 3 titles at Wimbledon, and 1 of the next 3 titles at the US Open. That would put his slam total at 19, and he would be 35 years old.

Very close to my optimistic forecast, with the slams shuffled around.
Honestly USO is the hardest slam for Djokovic to win provided Nadal falls out early at RG, which I see happening at least once in the next 4-5 years. I think he sneaks in an RG but only wins 1 more USO. 3 more AO’s is a lock imo.

He has definitely proved his dominance at the AO...that's for sure.

I think AO next year will reveal all. Djokovic seems more vulnerable to Next Gen and if Medvedev is the real deal (im not convinced) and tsitsipas and zverev sort their issues out and thiem steps up and khachanov keeps improving Djokovic may have alot of pitfalls lying in wait in his draws.

Nadal by contrast still has alot more intimidation factor over next gen

No one plays like Rafa, you must face him several times to kind of figure him out enough to give yourself a chance.

It took Federer and Djokovic 10 and 6 years respectively (and wait for injuries to hamper his movement) to start winning consistently vs Rafa.

The only thing stopping Nadal is Father Time.

Realistically, somewhere between 18-20 seems about right. I know that’s a pretty wide range but I honestly have no idea how many Novak still has left in him.

The other side of the coin for Djokovic is that his vulnerability (as seen in the last US Open) is more the result of his shoulder injury.

Just yesterday, Djokovic gave his fans some encouraging news regarding his injury:

“I‘m having a wonderful time with my family and actively working on my recovery so I can be ready for the Asian swing.

“My health is always top priority and as soon as I’m ready, I’ll be back.

One of the benefits of focusing on the AO is that he will have plenty of chances to play on hard courts before the AO.

Djokovic was always superior to Nadal on hardcourts all the way back to 2007.

Djokovic is tough to predict could be 16-17 or could even reach 25.It all depends on his health and mental state for coming future.
LOL! Yeah, another 9 more Slams for a guy about to hit 33 and having had a serious elbow injury and now having a shoulder injury.

Djokovic's priorities have changed and his family's happiness is above his individual achievements.

Basically that means trying to make as much money as he possibly can in tennis while he's still active and capable so he can continue providing happiness to his family :)
Nothing brings more happiness to a family than lots of money.

Djokovic won't stop until he beats Fed but will probably break down before he can reach Nadal, who will win 4 more RGs to get to at least 23.

I don't expect he nor Federer to stop. Nadal has lit a fire.
I think Med's performance might be a motivational factor for the other young guys. Thiem, Zverev and Khachanov to name a few have been a big disappointment this season overall considering their talent.

It’s crazy how one GS can completely change people’s perception. I mean how did he go from being the guy who’d win everything, surpass Federer and get 22 or 23 GS titles to the guy who is at the end of his career and would win only 3 or 4 GS titles in best case scenario ? Just one USO is what it takes for people to change their tune ?

Look at Nadal. He’s always struggled with injuries, his body is much more fragile than Djokovic’s and he got injured last year at the exact same time of the year, at the same age. Yet he went on to win 2 GS this year. He even made it to the final at AO, after a 4 months break, won RG, made it to the semis at Wimbledon and won USO. The only players that were capable of stopping him were Djokovic and Federer and without them, he would have won the CYGS. Now, Djokovic is much less injury prone, one year younger and has an edge on both Nadal and Federer everywhere bar Nadal at RG.

So lighten up, Djokovic fans. And hold your horses, non Djokovic fans. :D

Of course, I’m not saying Djokovic will pass Federer’s record, I’ve always been saying Djokovic could either succeed or fail. But anything is possible and the last GS doesn’t make a huge difference.

What my optimistic side tells me : 22 (2 AOs, 1 RG, 1 Wimb, 2 USOs).
What my pessimistic side tells me : either 18 or 19 (2 AO’s + maybe 1 Wimb).

Novak is very sensitive to injuries. They can mess him up for a long time, since he struggles to overcome them mentally.

That's the logical way to look at it! We have to know the extent of his injury and how long he needs to recover! If it brings him back stronger for AO next year, maybe Nole needs to shut it down for the season! That would allow Rafa to match Fedovic with 5 YE #1's apiece linking them with even more superlatives! Sampras' 6 will probably go by the wayside and he'll lose that honor to both Nadovic eventually!

Medvdev could be the new Djokovic with the way he's going.

No he couldn't. There is no new Djokovic because he's unique and Medvedev already at 23 is not even close to where Djokovic was at that age in transitioning from surface to surface. He's great on hardcourt but not great on anything else.

Impossible to tell. He cools us down and then heats us up. In 2018 he wanted to retire, then won 3 slams in a row. He said yesterday that his family and kids comes first while he was talking about his career, hinting that he might not be playing as much or at all.

Well, he said the same thing before then he proceeded to win 4 more slams. His family life doesn’t seem to prevent him from trying his best and winning slams.

He’s difficult to predict. However, I think he will have 1 final surge. He normally wins them at once then has a spell where he doesn’t win any. Think he can get to 20 maybe 21

Are you implying that Djokovic was putting his individual achievents over his family happiness all these past years? Because tbh, what you posted just looks like an excuse in case he doesnt win more GS.

Among the big 3 Djokovic is the worse performer vs the young guns, add to his body starting to fail him and it should paint a fairly clear picture to where his career is heading.
In fairness, some of those young gun wins were in 2017 when Djokovic wasn't all there, physically or mentally. Nick beat him twice in two weeks. I doubt that would have happened in mid-2018 or early 2019.

let’s talk after five months......i think the next aus open is crucial for his quest to 20 slams......his title there is under 3-way attack......so first let’s see if he can get out of it and then make a call......

Aren't you guys forgetting Wawrinka?

Djokovic will need lots of co-operation from Stan to reach 19/Nadal. If Stan is healthy and playing well, Djokovic isn't winning more than 18 total.

Man it's crazy how his never give up attitude during the USO final changed our views on him. I hear everywhere how he will be a multiple slam winner, or he could become the next Djokovic. Let's slow down. He showed great heart and his ability to change things up def made us believers. I just don't want him to be a flash in the pan, he has shown great promise and his ability to rile up the crowd was entertaining as hell. I used to think his matches were boring as hell because of his style, he got everything back in play and was borderline robotic. But let's calm our expectations of him. Let's see him win a slam.

That being said, I got Djokovic with a floor of 19 slams and a ceiling of 22. I know they are not far apart but that's just my gut feeling.

The injury is gone now!

Djokovic now has the best odds of winning the Australian Open.

He is +120 compared to +500 for Nadal, +900 for Medvedev, and +1200 for Federer.
