Do any Federer fans think Nadal is "GOAT?"

This thread was made out of curiosity. I know of many Nadal fans who think Federer is still "GOAT," but I am unaware of any Fed fans who hold the opposite position.

Personally I am a Nadal fan who thinks Nadal still needs to win one more slam, or a bunch more masters or YEC to be seen as "better" than Roger. Though that is purely from a statistical perspective. The difference between 20 and 21 is nowhere near enough to decide anything.

Both can be the goats. Federer has things like WTF and weeks at no.1. Nadal has things like the h2h, masters 1000 and Olympics. They have different strengths.

Nadal is best at RG
Novak is best at AO
Fed is best at Wimby and tied at USO
Fed is best at WTF (but that could change)
novak is tied at best at YE1
Fed has most weeks #1 but Novak is closing in
Novak has most masters

As a Nadal fan I think Federer is still GOAT although it's very close.

However I think Fed fans would rather cut their balls or t*tti*s before admiting Nadal is GOAT.

I'm a Nadal fan who, despite that fact, has absolutely loved watching Fed play and compete. Last year? I gave the edge to Fed. But now with Nadal having tied in both Slams and YE No. 1s? I give Nadal the slightest of edges.

One of my best friends, a Fed fanatic, FINALLY admitted that Nadal and Fed are at least co-GOATs. So, there's that.

Fed fan here. If all of the big 3 retired right now and I had to rank them all time, I’d still put it as Fed, Nadal and Djoker, respectively but from a non-bias perspective I am fully aware it most likely won’t be that way when it’s all said and done.

Unless Fed can come back and win #21, you’d have to rationally believe the GOAT race is likely gonna be between Nadal and Djokovic going forward. Now with that being said, that doesn’t take anything away from Fed who’s had one of the best careers any athlete could ever have had and he played a massive role in bringing tennis to new heights.

Also, these guys are all worth at least 9 figures despite still being in their 30s sooo....at this point, I’m pretty sure Lew is more familiar with their nitty gritty numbers than they are themselves lol

Most Federer fans cite W2008 as the decider in Nadals favour. Most i know are delighted djokovic is out of the race it seems.

10 years ago, rec.sport.tennis had countless threads raging on over the Pete vs Fed GOAT issue. All these Fed vs Nadal discussions will end up with as much meaning as those once Djoker stands alone at the top of the mountain in a few short years to come.

Great comments. Federer should always have a very special position as the figurehead for the whole Big 4 era irrespective of how things work out.

And I think you hit on a very good point about the guys who actually did this (Big 4). They realise how hard and how special every one of those major victories was, and they have a much more deeply ingrained, qualitative way of looking back on the merits of each other. They are more likely to leave the number-crunching / Wikipedia data pulling to the basement dwellers and superfans and will all be happy with their lot in life regardless of how things finish when the dust settles. They will be very deferential in praise of each other same way Pete Sampras was to Federer and Agassi was to Sampras.

I'm in the same boat as you.... a Nadal fan that believes Fed is the clubhouse leader as things stand. It's a very closely run thing between Fed, Nadal, Djokovic at present imo. I've seen plenty of great comments from Fed fans, and they've generally had the best response to Nadal and Djokovic making incremental gains in the GOAT race this year. I think there are some who are very resistant to the idea of Nadal or Djokovic overtaking Federer but there are fans like that from the other supporter groups as well (although they tend to articulate the sentiment differently).

I’m a diehard Federer fan that is going to be HONEST.

Nadal has THIRTEEN....13......of the most prestigious grand slam titles while Fed, Sampras and Connors combined only have 1.

Only prime PETE would have a chance against PEAK Ned on dirt.

Ned wins. Fred ded.

I would say so right now, yes.

Again this is a highly fluid situation with 3 guys so close together in their slam counts, not yet retired and with a massive gap between themselves and any active contender.

We’ll have to reconsider once all three have retired.

No, but I never considered Fed to be the GOAT either.

If Nadal wins more slams however he's the greater player for me, slams are the most important metric in this era. Personally, I expect Nadal to finish with atleast 25 slams.

It's so crazy that it's even possible for him to get more than 20. These dudes chopped Pete's record up, it's almost hard to imagine that 14 seemed like it would never be matched.

Bah, as if his legacy on clay can take more brownie points.

He doesn't need more of them on clay, he needs them elsewhere to at least close the gap to Feddi, otherwise he is toast in that debate.

:D
Lol "that debate" only matters on TTW. Im sure having his name etched as GOAT by the entire tennis media will be enough for him while he watches epic highlights of his triumphs on his 80ft yacht :p

It doesn't matter even here :D It is purely academical nonsense while we are waiting for Tsitsipas and Musetti to kill it.

Anyway, when he gets tired of that fisherman boat he can always call his buddy Roger to lace him up with some super yacht owners and fly him on his private jet, so that Nadal can say hello to the big sharks.

:p

Sarcasm noted, but one more slam, and it doesn't matter how many of them got his kit dirty :p

Well GOAT is opinion but records are plain facts. And today it looks more likely Nadal gonna end at top in record books. It should be enough for fans. You can't convince everyone to concede Nadal is GOAT. When they will write history even a hater can not change the fact that it's Nadal who has won most number of Slams in open era.

Had Djokovic won 20th instead of Nadal he would have got better argument for GOAT. He has all round records like WTF wins, weeks, Masters record etc. And he is the only player who equalled or surpassed Federer in department of consistency and dominance. He fails in versatility department. Nadal fails to beat Federer in all three departments. So he can never be GOAT IMO. He is just clay GOAT who happens to be very good player on other courts. But not overall GOAT. Federer - Djokovic - Sampras all three better than him at 4/5 biggest events - this is not GOAT stuff by any definition.

Nobody has surpassed Federer in overall consistency, and especially not Novak, considering how he is less consistent than Federer in his pet Major.
