Big 3 have such a huge lead over the players in open era.

Djokovic 24 Nadal 2w Federer 20

Do these people hold their own vs big 3.

Murray - 3
Courier - 4
Becker Edberg Wilander - 6 slams each.

Murray is closer to Becker than he is to any of the big 3. And all of these are closer to Borg than Borg is to big 3.

So does atg matter anymore.

Are you going to respect new players who reach 6 slams?

You don’t say…

I don't say what.

Murray is closer to Becker than he is to big 3.

But Becker and big 3 are both atg.

That makes very little sense to dunk on Murray when Becker has 6. It's not like Borg vs Murray at all.
I wasn’t all that surprised to find that 3 is closer to 6 than it is to 20.

Seeing as 95% of you (including yourself) can’t even do Murray the simple courtesy of giving him his dues and calling him the rightful ATG that he is, and take the **** out of anyone that isn’t an ‘ATG’, I’d say you’ve got more pressing matters to attend to before discussing anointing potential 6 slam winners.

Lets be honest, unless you lived it (many of us did, but not many in the future), then you will see the big3 as gods and everyone who played them as journeymen. But did they have any other ATGs? No. So kind of irrelevant for their era.

So at that point, you are comparing completely different eras (2010s to 802/90s). Different game. So I think the ATG definitely still matters from that perspective.

In hockey, no one is catching Gretzky in his records or numbers overall, but many will argue there are a few players better than him playing in the NHL right now. Different eras.

So YES, the ATG is very important when looking at eras and the history of the sport.

Asking about this

Why is 6 so much stronger than say 4 today when we have 3 with 20.
To reflect and know history of the game. That is it. As the tennis itself is not comparable. Just like hockey, and to be honest, many sports.

So you either respect the game and its history, or you respect the athlete.

Cause the athlete now is playing on a completely different level than the past.

Murray was capable of playing GOAT level tennis despite his results. Thrashed Peak Novak in that Wimbledon final and Peak Rafa in that Tokyo final.

they did sort of blow the curve big-time, no question.

but 3+ majors is still pretty great.

Being a grand slam champion more so a multiple one gains you a lot of respect, success and recognition in the real world.

only on TTW do we discuss things like if a 6x champion is worthy of our respect lol I love this forum. we are one of a kind I tell you.

Are you going to respect new players who reach 6 slams?
Yes, because I like tennis and don't worship the big 3.
Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon in 2001 is more significant to me than any Slam the big 3 have won.
It just goes to show you can enjoy the sport for different reasons and you're not forced to kowtow to hegemonic narratives.

I would say no. It doesn’t matter now because the only way to keep the game going for new players to surpass their predecessors. It’s always been done in tennis. The previous gen sets the bar, the new gen surpasses it. . But the big 3 created a monster of their own making. There’s close to a zero chance anyone surpasses the big 3 unless a 5th slam is added which cheapens the whole thing

Where do you go after the big 3? Just down. A couple of guys winning 8-14 slams isn’t going keep anyone’s interest when you had 3 guys winning 66 plus hundreds of other titles LOL

It also doesn’t help matters when sinner was losing to Djoker all over the place just 2 years ago and alcaraz has been getting his teeth knocked in by Djoker since last summer and still can’t muster a single hardcourt win over him. That does no one any favors.
