Do babolat racquets still run bigger in grip size???

I have seen and heard that racquets of babolat from 2009 use to ran bigger in grip size.
Are they still same
(I am not able to find these in store... so planning to buy online)

Depends on the model. Pure Strike seems to be standard sizing, while Pure Drive is almost a full size bigger. Part of this is that the Pure Strike has a thinner grip that reduces a half size. So, if you install a normal replacement grip, it will be slightly larger than standard. Pure Drive is almost a full size larger than other brands in a 4 3/8" grip size. I haven't used the latest Pure Aero, and so I can't speak to that.

My family and I use the Pure Aero 2019, Pure Aero Rafa, Pure Strike 100, and Pure Drive 2021. So far, the Pure Drive is the only one that runs big.

are you sure about this??
I measured a pure aero on a local store with cloth measuring tape. The racquet was of L3 grip size and it measured bigger
can you share picture of your racquet while measuring it.
I measured grip size 2 also(This is what I need), it was also slightly bigger.
[I have done this on USA version... but i do not think that it should run bigger as compared to regular pure aero]

it would be great help if you can confirm me

Found the old pics once the search function was back. I'll get some updated pics up as well.

PA2019 (4 1/4):
FIbBZGHXMAEYaYZ

FIbBZGEX0AAFI4c

PD21 (4 1/8). Wifey and I agreed it felt more like a 4 1/4 once we played with it.

I’m still of the opinion that - at least BITD - the bare racquet handle of a PD, for example, was inherently a ‘usual’ size, and that all this ‘running big’ is/or certainly was simply a case of Babolat installing thicker grips - or grips installed with more overlap, or less stretching - beats me - from the ‘factory’. BITD I personally replaced many Babolat Syntec ‘factory’ installed grips with Babolat Syntec retail grips - I know they should’ve been the same right? - and noted significant size reductions.

Sizes are preey inaccurate.
Check my this thread

I believe companies are installing thick grips. Maybe they think that the racquets become correct in size once handle is squeezed

Pure strike runs standard size to me. Pure Aero runs large. I hit with a Pro Staff 97 4 3/8 comfortably and used a 4 1/4 for Pure Aero (2019)

You can replace the thicker Pure Aero (2019) OEM grip with a thinner Babolat replacement grip if they run too large but the next grip size down is too small

so Babolat grips are more or less exactly like Yonex grips? Which is one size bigger?

I use grip 2 in all my yonex rackets and I want to try PA23

sajlent555

okay, I measured Yonex grip 2 in VCORE 98 23 and it is 10.7cm (tightly squeezed). Which is almost 4 1/4 inches.

And now - one photo of PA2019 #2 shows 4 1/4 (without foil)
Next photo of PA2019 #1 shows also 4 1/4 BUT it has foil on handle so it thickens the grip.

So it basically means that Yonex #2 is almost the same as Babolat #2.

Give us photos of Babolat grip #1 with no foil on the handle. Then we will see.

Still the case with the Pure Aero 2023?
Yes..... Got a chance to hold grip size 3 but it was feeling like a 4 or probably even bigger as I wasn't able to measure it and racquet was having overgrip. I would suggest that you should buy 2 sizes down and you will be comfortable after overgrip... Or try at any shop yourself

Guys, I just went to Decathlon and they had new 2023 Pure Aero Team with grip 3 and it didn't feel like it's noticeably bigger than other brands like Head. There was Head Speed MP with G3 so I had direct comparison.

I assume G3 in Pure Aero Team is the same as in regular Pure Aero or Aero 98 right?

Also grabbed G1 in Evo Drive Lite and it was noticeably smaller than Yonex G2. G2 Evo Drive Lite was similar to Yonex G2. Maybe a lil thicker coz it has that 1.90mm basegrip.

Just measured the PA 98 #3 demo from TW, with the stock grip, it came out 4.5in

My Tfight ISO 305 #3 and with stock grip was 4.3in

When I wrapped both with Volkl V-dry overgrip, the PA98 grip size became more noticeable. It measured ~4.6in

Tecnifibre grips are lil smaller when you measure them but they actually feel okay because of their rectangular shape like oldschool Head rackets. I have tfight 300 isoflex in G3.

People there were telling me that I should go for grip 1 in Babolat Pure Aero if I use G2 in yonex and thank god I didn't listen to them because now I would have been stuck with too small grip and racket that I can't return.

In Babolat you can easily go down by replacing their 1.90mm basegrip with something thinner like yonex excel grip 1.60mm. But you can't actually go up in size and not add extra 5-8g. Thick grips are much heavier. Not everyone one likes to change balance of the racket (except of adding overgrip).

Good point about not drastically changing balance point

Yeah. I was curious about grip thicknesses and their weight when I was replacing skinny Yonex grip in my Ezone 98. I wanted something thicker and more cushioned. Head hydrosorb was the choice because it didn't change the already very head light balance in my 98 Ezone.

Yonex Excel Pro Grip 1.60mm is 13.4g trimmed.

Head Hydrosorb Pro is 14g trimmed and it's 1.75mm

Babolat 1.90mm is 15g trimmed.

And Head Hydrosorb Comfort 2.10mm is 19g trimmed.

Slightly bigger is the key word. No need to go down to grip 1 from 2 if I use it in yonex. If someone uses G2 in yonex or head then G2 in babolat will be the best.

Grip 1 in babolat was way too small for me.

I have to agree! I bought a Gravity MP Auxetic size 3 and it is way too big compare to my PA23 size 2!

Can confirm now as I have PA 2023. G2 in babolat is probably the same as in yonex.

On the other hand Wilson G2 is way smaller than size 2 in yonex and babolat.

I have both a pure drive 2025 and pure aero 2023. Pure drive is 1/4 and the aero 3/8. Only reason I bought the pure drive was because when I picked it up it felt to big in the 3/8 and I thought I was nuts.

But after testing them the pure drive is just under 3/8.

So now my head is always messed up because the handles actually look smaller because the ends are smaller but the handle it’s self is just as thick as the aero. Idk I’ll have to actually use a tap measure to see now
