do a hybrid of poly and an natural gut last longer than just poly. i want a string that is soft, gives control, gives good spin potential and can maintain tension. should i go for the volkl cyclone tour 17 in the mains and crosses, the volkl cyclone tour 17 in the mains and the babolat vs natural gut 17 in the crosses or the babolat vs natural gut 17 in the mains and the volkl cyclone tour 17 in the crosses or should i get the volkl psycho 17.

A hybrid with natural gut still won't change the fact that the poly will die in about 10 hours. If you put gut in the mains and poly in the crosses then you won't feel the effect as much and you won't lose as much playability as if you did a full bed of poly. Natural gut does not die it only pops. If you want it to hold tension better then Natural gut mains and poly crosses is better than full bed of poly since natural gut holds tension very well.

If you want something that is soft, gives control, gives good spin potential and can maintain tension then i recommend you either go full bed of natural gut or natural gut mains and Monogut ZX crosses. :)

Poly will die just the same. That's the sad thing about playing hybrids with Gut, you have to take out the Gut every two weeks and it's still good, total waste of money. They need to find another way.

Just strung up my first gut mains and mosquitobite 18 crosses.

I was thinking of zx as I was stringing. Though wouldnt monogut zx with gut be too mush for someone used to kevlar/zx? I got the gut/ poly to work by going up in tension from 45/30lbs to 55/50lbs for the gut/ poly.

What would I need to string gut/ zx at to get similar stiffness?

In a gut/poly hybrid, it doesn't matter that the poly dies quickly. The poly in the crosses isn't doing anything but holding the mains in place.

I've been playing gut/poly exclusively now for the past few months and I haven't noticed the playability dying at all as the wear on the crosses increases.

And, it's even better when you cross it with 4G, as the tension holds better. Even after 10 hours of play, it feels almost brand new.

I generally just use full bed of poly and consider that to be a huge water of money having to cut them out so frequently...
