Do not feel bad for Zverev

A player like Zverev has been slamless till now because his forehand is very passive. Even Andy Murray won just 3 slams because of his weak fh.

Today from the baseline, Zverev hit 4 FH winners in over 4 hrs. That's 1 FH winner from the ground in more than an hr.

Boris Becker once said a player can't wait for his opponent's mistake in grand slam final. Zverev's problem today is the same as its been all his life. He can't buy a forehand with all the money he got. Let it be a lesson for him next time in big matches.

To be fair, he makes up for it by having one of the best backhands on tour. Not everyone possesses identical strengths.

Lol. Why should I feel bad for a handsome multimillionaire? Because he does not end an ATG in tennis? He still won the lottery in life and lives better than 99.999 % of all people. There are countless others in the world I would feel more bad for.

Funny thing is his FH looked as good as it can for stretches during this match. It's not a weapon but he wasn't missing with it either, and was able to constantly get back any of Alcaraz's shots out wide, which was making the Spaniard hit one too many shots in a bunch of rallies.

He knows how to hit FH. It is all mental. He needs a coach and not dad.

He has the weapons but has not utilized it optimally. Shame.

Hopefully he can put together a good run . This RG was impressive. I feel bad for his diabetes . On the whole , he is someone you can get behind , if he can be a more confident player

Tsitsipas never got that memo, so don't expect Zedrot to receive it either.

Muzz had to lose 5 slam finals before he managed to bag one and that was against far stiffer competition than Zverev. So I don't buy this notion that he somehow deserves a slam title.
That ain't how it works

His forehand has been getting better this year relative to what it used to be, and the thinking by some was that once we got out of the dead conditions of week 1 it would get a lot of benefit from the quicker conditions under the sun, but today Alcaraz absolutely bullied it.

He was serving at it again and again in the first couple of sets when he was serving well, and changing the pace of what he was firing at it, and it absolutely broke down.

We peasants (including you OP) dont have the luxury to feel sorry for a handsome famous multimillionaire who is fitter than anyone here (minus the diabetes).

Zverev showed a lot more grit this time around than he did against Thiem. But Alcaraz so far is one do the most clutch players that I’ve ever seen. Zverev didn’t embarrass himself this time around(the 2020 USO final was embarrassing). This was a matter of Zverev losing to a better player that’s also one of the most clutch players for his age ever.

Alcaraz is now 11-1 in 5-setters. He’s 3-0 in slam finals across 3 surfaces. And his record in finals now is 15-4. Those are ridiculous numbers for guy that turned 21 last month.

You say Forehand passive?!, The worst thing he had in this final was SERVE!!!

He lost 6:1 and 6:2, It's a shame, the player who was supposed to win the slam had such a weak serve, no wonder he lost...

These have to be historically unprecedented clutch numbers at age 21 years 1 month.
We are in the presence of greatness.

He's been waiting for it a long time and it's an amazing feeling.

Do not feel bad for this man.

Why I would feel sorry for him? Off-court stuff not with-standing, you get what you deserve in tennis.

He's simply not good enough at the moment to win a slam. That's twice in slam finals now he's taken either a 2 set or 2 sets to 1 lead, and he's blown both opportunities. He becomes way too passive when he sees the finishing line and that'll only continue to get worse now that he's lost multiple slam finals in the same way.

The only way he's winning one is if he meets someone in a final that's as mentally frail as he is.

Not just forehand. What the hell are these weak volleys... Just no words.
Zverev always had horrible volleys. How can anyone expect him to suddenly morph into Edberg at the net when he's always been awful with volleying? Becker said again during Zedrot's match against Rune that if he wanted to win RG or any slam he "is gonna have to put in the time to learn proper volleying mindset and technique."

With the power of his serve, becoming a better volleyer would help him tremendously. As it is now, he’s a liability at the net.

I'm just grateful Zverev didn't win the US Open over Thiem.
Thiem's style of tennis is more deserving of a slam than Zverev's.

I have never liked Zverev - his arrogance knows no bounds for someone who is slamless, still not his f&^king time lol especially when you play like a scared little boy on the big points.

Forever thankful to Thiem and Alcaraz for not allowing the arrogant brat to be a major champion as I can only imagine how much more insufferable he would be if he were one, the only good thing he has done in majors was knock out Nadal in the 1st round this year.

Zverev has actually a good chance to win many slams in the post Djokovic era now. Djokovic denied him only 2 times.
AO 21 - Maybe a half chance
USO 21 - Solid chance

Now if Zverev can stop staying passive in a grand slam final, he would definitely have a chance to win slams for next 5 years. He is still just 27. 4.5 years older than Sinner.

Totally share your sentiment. There's a reason "anyone but zverev" became a meme.
