Do people play pickleball on clay?

A local club is trying to play pickleball on clay, the green har-tru I think it's called. Is this something happening anywhere else?

Have not seen that at our local clay courts. Wouldn’t that slow it down so that it is next to impossible to play?

I would think so, it seems a little silly to me. I need to watch some actual play, wonder if the plastic ball gets dirty.

The green stuff is like kitty litter. No where near as fun as the red stuff. But it would still make the ball dirty.

Ahahaha, when I don't clean my shoes well enough and I get the green clay in the house, I blame it on the cat.

Great guess, but nope, this is the facilities pros trying to shove in pickleball on clay, I don't play pickleball, but I was guessing this is a pretty unusual thing to try on clay.

A few times I've seen some younger (early 20s) kids hitting on our local clay courts.
Seemed pointless to me, but they looked a little clueless anyhow. Sort of like they thought they were doing something revolutionary.

At the place where my mother lives (World Tennis Club in Naples), they had a single clay court that had the under-court irrigation system installed. Nobody liked the court, and it was the last one to be booked (some even preferring to go to the hard courts if that was the only clay available).

During the pandemic they converted that court to pickleball. Seems weird walking by and seeing people playing on clay, but it keeps them from messing all the other courts up w/ tape or extra lines, so fine by me...

Innisbrook FL also has hartru pickleball courts. I saw them and scratched my head, but probably trying to cater to the older population that plays. I can't give feedback because if I'm on court it's a tennis court sorry.

How does the clay not get inside the pickleball or all over the outside surface for that matter? If clay somehow sticks to the paddle, is that not too much abrasion and seemingly illegal?

If 80% of the hits are volleys before the ball touches the ground, court surface shouldn’t matter that much.
