Do people really think Djokovic was faking the injury?

Faking it for his fans.

He knows them - knows what makes them tick. The facts are out already: X-ray or catscan/MRI revealed he was healthy.

The truth is probably that he got food poisoning or something else (body temporarily jammed by an exotic plant ingredient in an experimental vegan smoothie... minor stuff like that

You begin with "I'm not a Novak fan". Everything after that is pure ******** with no evidence. Try again.

Wawrinka will be his "injury test". If he defeats Wawrinka in 3, there is simply no injury.

It is humanly impossible to defeat Wawrinka in 3 if you are injured.
The "injury test" was already exposed by the Mac bros. They're on site, they're in the locker room, they know what the buzz is. Gilbert, Cahill and Courier all also agreed, "no injury, just playacting." There's no way to go from being on the verge of retiring from a match with excruciating pain to being perfectly fine 1.5 days later.

I liked how Nadal put bandages around both knees when he met Federer in the final in Shanghai a couple years back. Before then, he was making easy work of everyone leading up.
But you know, you gotta have excuses ready when you lose to a rival. LOL

No, he already overplayed in that moment. He had 2 difficult matches in the previous rounds against Dimitrov and Cilic.
Besides, that match was played in indoor conditions, so...

Yup, but for damage control and to create more sympathy, he wrapped his knees with bandages so the excuses were ready when he lost.

I'm convinced that Djokovic had bad diarrhea in the earlier part of the 2013 French Open SF vs. Nadal. He would have won if not for that.

So he has to lose a set to prove to you he was having issues with his shoulder, otherwise all that was made up?

I'm not really a Djokovic fan so i'm not trying to defend him but what would be his motivation for faking an injury and hitting much weaker backhands and serves than he normally does against Londero in r2? I can understand the criticism in that AO final against Murray where he looked dead at some point and was flying on the court the rest of the match but I don't see a valid reason for him to fake it at the USO r2, yet I see a lot of people accusing him of faking it.

I don't often reply to bumped threads from years ago but i feel like there is a lesson to be learned in this one. Topic about Djokovic faking an injury. Is it from the past 24 hours? This week? or from a previous year? Noone knows because it's so commonplace.

Whether he faked this injury or not, or exaggerated it, one thing is for sure...

Novak is a drama queen.

There's your answer.

A drama queen seeks to create drama - for drama's sake.

I still think he was/is injured and still think his FH side is vulnerable.

Yep. However, it is very unlikely that his SF opponent will be able to expose that, so it will take a final appearance to see it exploited, as both Nadal and Medvedev can (and will) do it. Overall, a pretty bizarre developments that AO. Not surprising, given everything surrounding the tournament.

Some of the fools in the tennis worlds have crossed all limits.. why on the heaven sake will someone fake an injury when he is 2 sets up against a Random American Journey man in a R3. And that someone is an ATG like Novak is, he wants to complete the business ASAP and get to bed and take as less time in the match as possible.

I mean because of fools like you Tennis is lagging on popularity levels in the Traditional Powerhouses like Britain,US and Australia. All the three nations have become a Joke of a Tennis nations now. Before some Sherlock point me out, i am talking about Mens tennis, obviously and not Womens Tennis.

This AO no I don't think he was faking having an injury, just the severity of it and how much it would affect his level of play was a bit overblown

You cant be injured and keeps winning matches. Head should rename his racket to Speed Possum Edition.
Of course you can. Most players deal with injuries and pain all the time. If they only played when they are 100% and pain free their seasons would be a lot shorter. They just have to adapt

Some people like having a crack at Novak on this because it gives them something to denigrate his achievements with. All the leading champs take MTOs- Federer, memorably, took them on both the semis (vs Wawrinka) and Finals (vs Nadal) in the 2017 AO, and apart from Pat Cash, no one really called him out for it. Again, last year in Fed's match against Sandgren, he took an MTO . In *all* these cases, Fed's MTO's were taken when the momentum was with his opponent. And yet, pretty much everyone seems to accept the fact that he genuinely did have an ailment. Why not extend the same courtesy, the same benefit of doubt to Novak?

When Novak took his MTO against Fritz, *he was freaking 2 sets to love up and 3--3 in the third set*. The momentum was *with* Novak, certainly not with Fritz. What possible motive could he have of faking an injury at that point?? He was clearly clutching his abdomen in pain after he stretched and fell. People who like to throw shade at him for the Fritz match, try watching the match in full instead of being keyboard warriors by spreading canards on social media. I mean, does anyone who really follows tennis feel a 100% fit Djokovic would lose 2 sets to Fritz??

I get everyone has their favourite champs, and rooting against one's favourite player's rivals is par for the course. But it would be great if the commentary and debate was based on something logical.

Ok, let's take your statement at face value. When are you going to demand Fed return his AO 2017 title? He took MTOs in the semis AND Finals and still won, no? Also last year he took an MTO in his match against Sandgren and won? Per your logic, should Rolex, Uniqlo et al rebrand Fed's clothing/accessory sponsorship as the "weasel edition"? Shall we reduce his GS count to 19?
But you know what - Fed isn't my favourite player, not by a long chalk, but I respect him. It should be possible to root for your favourite without denigrating and casting silly aspersions on his rivals. Think about it. Why are you applying different standards on MTOs for Novak?

People are just disappointed Djokovic won. In the third set against Fritz you could bet your house that Djokovic is out. Imagine joy of many thinking that Djokovic lost. Questioning whether this is injury or not is just frustration of many disappointed people including Fritz, Nadal, Tony, Kokkinakis, many from the press, many from TTW and others. However, if Djokovic is capable of playing possum and losing points/sets deliberately just to mess with opponents mind, I appreciate him even more. That would be spectacular.

This thread also shows how ridiculous the doubters sound regarding his Wawrinka walkover. It was clear he was struggling for weeks before this match. Against PCB and Pouille in Cincinnati, he received MTO and was nowhere near his best. He wasn't faking anything. He kinda tanked the last set against Medvedev. And against Londero he could hardly move at the end. Why would he need to fake an injury against a clay specialist ranked outside of the top-50. It was better against Struff but the pain was still there and could resurface anytime. Unfortunately, it did in the middle of the first set against Wawrinka. There was no reason to aggravate it and endanger his chances for the AO.

But sure, go ahead. He faked against Londero, just like against Fritz in AO (when he was up 2 sets to 0) and Cerundolo in RG (after a quick 6-1 in the opening set) These players must scare him so violently he has to cheat, con, lie, fake and tank sets in order to beat them. Common sense.

Faking vs milking the crap out of a minor injury or procedure…

He didn’t milk this.

The press did.

He never said it was a serious surgery that would prohibit playing Wimbledon.

His physio said right after the procedure it was more likely he would play than not.

His team immediately made “happy rehab” videos to market his likely return.

He simply did not have “knee surgery” the way we might think of it.
