Do you care for or look forward to the Davis Cup?

Davis Mug

  • I look forward to it generally.

  • I'm indifferent to the Cup.

  • I don't care for the Cup but don't think it's a bad event as such in its current format.

  • The Davis Cup is dead right now and the format needs to be revised.

  • I enjoy the international battles, but believe the format to be poor.

  • Other (toss a coin for specification).

This event feels at more or less an all-time low for me. I couldn't give a monkey's really.

But enough about me, what about you!

Here's a loaded poll for you all.

Will you watch the Davis Cup Final?

Look forward to it but it should be every four years (Should probably be two years after the Olympics)

I also think the Olympic Gold trumps it for prestige.

Hmm, I was thinking more like every 2 years — the years before and after the Olympics — and then probably some additional format changes but I'm not really sure what right now.

Watch a final because I'm tennis starved. But, no I don't really care. Feels like an exho tbh.

The format is a throwback to a different era. There is enormous potential for a prestigious international tennis competition. So long as it operates within the realities of today's tour.

The Davis cup needs work.

What work does it need? I agree that the Davis Cup hasn't really moved with the times and that there is still great potential there for a compelling and also important competition. Once upon a time, the Davis Cup was extremely prestigious.

I think it's definitely a good thing that tennis is gaining ground at the Olympics, even though the sport already has its obvious pinnacles - four of them on a yearly basis. Obviously, the tour would be even better if the Davis Cup could head strongly in the same direction.

I have always enjoyed following Davis Cup.

As another poster said on here a few days ago, it often allows us to see a journeyman or young gun go all out for their country. Has made for some great matches over the years.

Who remembers Nadal/Roddick from the 2004 Davis Cup. Nadal hadn't even cracked the top 50 but showed everyone he soon would by stepping up for Spain.

I am watching it, last event of the year, and I want to see if Murray will win it. Cheering him all the way!

I've seen two categories of changes being suggested, each with its own drawbacks. The first is to have an annual play-off of 8 or 16 teams. The second is to reduce the frequency of the cup. I'm not sure which would be better overall.

In terms of outcomes, it would be great if a REALLY prestigious inter-nation trophy could coexist with the majors. One which players would actively aspire to win like they actively aspire to win majors. A bit like the football world cup coexists with league play.

No , dont care. Never really captured my attention and seems like an exhibition afterthought, even in the 90s with Courier and Todd Martin and the boys . I like America as much as the next guy but there is a 0 % chance I'd play Davis Cup if I were a pro.

Ofc , I care for the game, even if that means that such great tennis nation as GB will have a unique chance to win it.To say that, come on Goffin Darcis, Bemelmans:D

I do enjoy the international battles, but at the same time I think that the Davis Cup the way it currently is is dead. They need to make it less frequent and perhaps have it occur in the off season to avoid conflicts/tight timeplans with the regular tour (particularly the travel makes it very hard on players). I would make it much like the World Cup in football... Every 4 years, in the off season and in one central location. The rarity of the event would (artificially) add prestige, something that the DC currently is lacking enormously, and the timing will be easier on players. Additionally, the more concise tournament format in one location will make it a bigger event and draw more attention (or so I hope).

I really like watching Davis cup. The atmosphere is great and the players seem really focused and motivated so the level is usually very high. A lot of lower ranked players play amazing tennis during Davis cup like Darcis recently and James Ward the last few years

I don't generally plan to watch Davis Cup. But sometimes I'll watch. Davis Cup is where the crowds are the most energetic and the players are the most emotional, which is cool to see.
