Not tier one as yet.

The number of weeks is way too low is one problem, he has trouble keeping #1 and even lost it at his peak to way post prime Fed.
And then to another player Djokovic.

It takes a very strong mental attitude to keep the level up all year and then for years at a time.

He was an early starter so should be able to get his numbers still.

LOL WTF are you on about, Nadal didn't lose #1 in 2009 because he didn't have a strong enough mental attitude to keep up the level he was playing, he missed months because of an injury and that is the only reason Fed got it back.

Nadal is Tier 1 and his #1 weeks are inevitably going to increase now anyway.

This year is a perfect example of how Nadal's weeks at #1 have to come with a grain of salt. Nadal has been by far the best player in the World since March. Even had he ended last year at #2 (the minimum he would have been if he played the season out) he would have taken #1 in March and held it ever since had he simply finished last season. Yet Djokovic who has in no way been the Worlds best player the past 6 months still was the one "ranked #1" all since Nadal missed 8 months and had no points for a huge 8 month chunk of time, most of that last year, carried over. The same way, and the only way, Federer got back to #1 in 2009 and spent a good part of 2010 there, although atleast Nadal didnt outright miss as much time in that occasion.

Especially considering he was routinely beating up on Federer when the thread was made. Glad those that weren't around on these forums back then can see the arrogance of Fed fans on full display.

Nadal is the weakest of the Big 3. Hurts to say that as a Nadal fan. That game had input from pro tennis players too
The weakest who need less tries to win more slams.. interesting. The weakest who has the most dominant slam runs.. in average.. And who has less slam finals lost in straights..

In these sorts of threads, it's typically the case that people today judge older posters too harshly for making calls that actually seemed reasonable at the time. For example, I would certainly not fault anyone for saying in 2009/2010 that Djokovic might not turn out to be an ATG, let alone a GOAT candidate.

But this is not that. In August of 2013 when this thread was made, Nadal had acquired 12 Slams (distribution: 8 RG, 1 US Open, 2 Wimbledon, 1 AO) which would have firmly placed him within the top category of Open Era greats. Just two off of Sampras and one higher than Borg. Given the OP's criteria, it'd have been somewhat silly to not consider him a tier 1 ATG unless you happened to be very restrictive back then (in which case even Sampras probably wouldn't have even made the cut).

And then there's this guy:

I don't consider Federer or Nadal Tier 1 greats

Always been a Fed fan first and foremost. Unless you’re from Spain or Serbia there’s literally no reason to support Nadal or Djokovic over Federer

Oh it's Nadal who got utterly owned in slam h2h by 2 of his rivals , interesting.
Don't even bother engaging with this initialize person... pathetic troll masquerading as Rafa fan as the above quote shows!!

Rafa is great, there is no doubt! But whether you lose in 3 or 4 is no way to measure greatness, as I see it.

I’ll second that. He also routinely posts photos insulting Nadal‘s appearance I’ve noticed.

So many years to still be so bitter.... It's warped, but it's actually enjoyable to see your unrequited frustration, lol.

As for Rafa, at the moment, he's now the unparalleled Tier 21 player.
Bizarre adjective selection aside, that repetition of transgressions prolonging their condemnation might incite bafflement is quite the curiosity; but hey, what is tennis but a game of Top Trumps with a net for decoration?

Indeed.

I've seen him do that many times. He's a fed worshipper.
