Do you have any favorite current TV shows that are just fun and not political, gory, or crude

I've been watching the Mandalorian and Wondavision and these are the first shows I've seen in a while that I've actually enjoyed and I miss fun TV. I follow the news very carefully and read some political books and can't stand seeing politics pushed into TV programming, which I know happens intentionally a lot. I also just don't enjoy seeing gore, hearing people dropping f bombs or just crude behavior.

Are there any comedies that you like that are actually based on jokes that get people to laugh rather than making political statements or fun mystery (who done it) type shows (I used to watch Psych and liked that a lot) or action shows that have great actions scenes but don't show someone getting their arm cut off or watching a knife get stuck in someone.

The last 10 years or so I've just not found much programming that's entertaining and I know there are tons of shows out there. Besides watching tennis and the news I figure there's got to be something good on.

I also don't really like these competition cooking shows. If I'm going to watch a cooking show I'll watch Good Eats or something that shows me how to make something. I know there are some good educational type shows, but sometimes after working hard all day I just want to relax and watch something fun.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is basically the 21st century version of Seinfeld

I've made this same argument in order to convince friends to watch It's Always Sunny. Three main dudes and a lady, just like Seinfeld (obviously I'm not including Frank even though he's a main character). They're all self-absorbed jackasses, just like the Seinfeld cast. Both are great shows, but It's Always Sunny is definitely more Millennial-ish given the absurd humor (I'm a millennial myself).

If you really think SW or any other Disney release doesn't push a politics of its own then you're simply not paying enough attention.

And some of us do take film and TV seriously because that's what grown-ups are supposed to do. Despite what you may have heard our ancestors had far less time for leisure than most of us, but that didn't stop them from using it to gain intellectual and spiritual nourishment (and entertainment!) from the likes of Homer, Dante, Shakespeare, Dickens and Tolstoy, not to mention their countless imitators. You don't get to complain about the sorry state of our union and education when you're not willing to do your heavy lifting.

Try PBS. They have mystery shows and science shows that meet your criteria. Masterpiece Theater is currently streaming All Creatures Great and Small online. If you live in America, I think PBS is your best bet. Network television is garbage.

Very dark and very funny show, but I feel like it has jumped the shark the last few seasons. The sociopathy of the characters' personalities has been softened, and the show seems to have lost its edge, Maybe I'm wrong about this, as I have the first dozen or so seasons on DVD, but have watched fewer and fewer episodes over the years.

I like the fact that the judges are generally respectful to the contestants, in contrast to the sadism, cruelty, and celebration of humiliation that became popular in competition shows of the 2000s. It's hard for a cooking show to top the original Japanese "Iron Chef," which is like the American "Iron Chef" on acid.

I agree with you. The first few season when Frank came into the picture were incredible. The past two seasons, while still hilarious, aren’t quite as good.

I once turned on Gordon Ramsey's older show when Joe Bastianich was one of the judges, and he was making this woman cry, telling her "your food is garbage and you're a joke." I turned it off.

First 8 seasons of the simpsons were decently un-political with a few jokes here or there, but some classic old shows like Frazier are great.

Lately I have been watching To Tell the Truth- a game show that is less than a game show- just goofy.
The Nanny has always been one of my favorites.
Frasier is one of the best written sit-coms ever.
Of course Jeopardy.
Not on at this time but Dog With a Blog and Star Butterfly were funny and clever.
On the retro channel Ozzie and Harriet is interesting.

I really like Seinfeld and saw a few clips of It's Always Sunny and prefer the Seinfeld humor, but what I saw was pretty funny with the Sunny show.

I do think that the recent SW and many Disney releases have pushed politics on it's own and was very frustrated with them. I read political books, multiple newspapers, as well as some science books in my free time and in fact just read a couple about one about how politics is inserted into TV shows. It talked about the different organizations that work to put their messages into shows to change public opinion. I'm currently reading another one about the TV industry and how it progressed with the political messages of the writers/executives. So I know it continues today, but I didn't see anything with the Mandalorian or Wandavision or if it's there it's not like the superhero shows on the CW or anything. With those shows it's the first time in a while I've been in a better mood after watching them and they put a smile on my face.

I just want something light on the weekends to help me relax.

Thanks! I'll check out PBS. I grew up watching TV but got so fed up with it that I haven't watched very much in the past decade. Maybe it's just network tv.

I can't believe people still watch the simpsons, or that they are still making episodes. Wtf else can they do?

I watched it when I was growing up and it really jumped the shark a long time ago. I liked the early seasons a lot better as far as how clever the writing was and even though it's yet another show with the idiotic father Homer was a lot better in the early seasons than later on. Lisa is one of the most annoying characters. Plus they went on all in on pushing politics on the show years ago.

If you haven't already, check out Ted Lasso.

It's funny, but not crude. Very positive and uplifting. Just phenomenal show in the sense that it always leaves me with a positive vibe. I cannot recall a show like this, ever.

I am sick of the current Woke/SJW stuff on over the air channels. I made an exception to this and do watch the new CBS The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah on Sundays. I get a kick out of the show since she is overweight, in her 50s, expert in hand to hand combat, small arms, undercover and her past organization is always begging for her to comeback and work since she suppose to be the agency’s top former personnel. She a single mom with a daughter too. Of course, she has her own 4, 5 person support organization that has specialists to aid her in being the Equalizer! I find this show more hilarious then anything else. It suppose to to be an action, drama too.

it's worth watching even if only for that stupid "night man" song that keeps popping up. so funny.
