Do you have to cut out poly mains?

I don't have much experience with poly hybrids. Been using kevlar hybrids or rip control for a while now. If you hybrid a poly (mains) with a synth gut, do you have to cut out the mains before they break? Do they effect playability in a hybrid if they go dead?

Cut when it's dead. Given the fact those setups have limited durability (don't keep your poly for more than 20h of hitting), you can just cut it when it's dead, or when it breaks. If your mains are dead, you're better off cutting the whole stuff: the mains generally gives the mains characteristics of how your string bed acts.

5 to 8 hours, cut!
If you play any further, you start hurting yourself.
And just in case, there is little reason to use SMOOTH poly in mains. Use them as a cross for synthetic or natural gut and you will double longevity, or quadruple it in case of natural gut mains. Plenty of threads discussing this, look around.
Any sharp/shaped poly is good for mains, but it wears out in 5-8 hours anyway.
