Do you like oddball strings?

Sure there are others out there and pretty sure he has no arm issues

I think Millman and Brown are the last guys hitting 70 lbs.

This is brown's string sheet

I strung up some weedwacker line in a frame for a joke one time... guess what it played ok... :)
-i considered it for laughs myself ,(weedwacker string) but never went through with it
-i did however go as far as using salt water fishing leader line for crosses
-and it worked well,, but then again ,"worked well" is a subjective term or feeling :giggle:

I’ve used poly for years between 60 and 70 lbs. and still do when I use poly but using Kevlar presently. I also use light rackets with high tension poly and no problems so far. My hitting partner uses Luxilon BB Ace at 70 lbs and has used that set up for years.

Andy Roddick also strung poly at 70lbs.

Good Memory.. and Jack Sock plays full poly at 30 lbs.. The pros have to make a living playing tennis (not like us..LOL) .. thus they do what allows them to win as much as possible to make as much cash as possible and get as many ATP / WTA points as possible. One wonders what Andy might use if the was a young pro right now. The polys are so much better than they were in his days. He was a Pro Hurricane user if memory serves. I hated that string. Never saw why players liked it.

When you change to a new string job every half hour it’s completely different than what us amateurs use, like using poly for many days or weeks. There is no comparison because even a string that doesn’t last very long can play good when fresh. For years Rafa used a first generation poly I forget the name but to me it felt really dead and crappy, but he won many majors with this string.

I hear so many talk about this pro only strings at 54lbs. Yes and again he uses that string for a very short time so when rec players think they are using the same tension as a pro they are correct for the first half hour or so but after that it’s not even close to the same especially as long as most guys use poly.

He did switch to RPM blast/VS gut hybrid and the last photos I saw of his racquets, they had Luxilon alu fluoro in them. He did ease up on the tension (at the behest of Roman Prokes), but not sure by how much.

Nadal used Duralast (a custom 15g, I believe), bottom tier poly before he switched to RPM blast like so many other guys.

This almost seems like a list of least popular strings. There are plenty of strings out there that are over priced, flawed in design or have undesirable characteristics.

a strange string that comes of mind is Dunlop hexy Fiber. It was a weird shaped multifilament string. Stretched liked crazy and the shape ended smoothing out after it was tensioned.

Not least popular, most (attempted) innovation. Some more successful than others.

Was just as described above..

What do others say about gamma glide? Cool idea. Never tried

I string a racquet for a guy who uses this, he buys combo packs that come with a gamma black poly for the crosses. A net rushing aggressive slicer, hard junker. He swears by it, though it breaks more than poly.

The stuff is super stretchy, even more than gut or multi. I cant compare its feel when stringing to anything else.

You should get one of those hyper pro staff carbon frames with stiffness in the high 70's. They have a small cult following.
You havent played tennis till you played with a wilson profile 2.7 strung with kevlar poly at 86lbs…hyper carbon prostaffs are noodles

-is that correct??!
-using the gamma.moto (black shaped poly) for the crosses !?!?!
-and using the gamma.GLYDE (clear round string) for the mains??!
-could be interesting i guess, but im not so sure about it

-i string this all the time for people, but we do it reverse

No that's an error on my part. I think I'm so wired to the mains usually being the star of the show that I mistyped. Thanks for noticing.

It's gamma in the crosses. If you know someone who really likes it you can get 120 foot mini reels for $60, which averages out a lot cheaper than the per pack price.

@1HBHfanatic - hey I was doing a search and found where you said you had detailed your thoughts about Pro's Pro multis. I couldn't find it, which Pro's Pro multi do you like the best and what is it close to mainstream-wise?

-Gamma.JET is a weird poly
-not very arm friendly either
-only good thing i see is the color, deep BLUE almost purple
I was going to mention Gamma Jet. Been using it in my Burn 100S for almost 2 years now. Maybe the string pattern lends itself to the string. I haven't really tried it in other rackets. It's so cheap.

I have always liked oddball strings. I played with some over the years that were great YET these companies either stop making the strings, change the string formula, or the string company goes out of business.

-ive learned this over time!!
-when it comes to strings, tensions, racquets, people tend to like what they like
-make no sense to someone else
-but makes perfect sense to them
-more power to you for liking g.JET, just not my cup of tea!!

just tried a few multis from pros pro
side by side comperason
just 1 day so far of baseline and volleys

all strung at 57lbs on 18/20 pattern, similar rakets
full bed multis
i am wanting to see how they moved and how quickly,,

pp.hitech.multifiber 1.30mm
pp.hot.stuff 1.30mm
pp.gutex.ultra 1.30mm
pp.superior.gut 1.32mm

pp.hitech and pp.hot.stuff looked alike, pinkish in color, smelled like chemical,
pp.hotstuff smelled stronger, and surprisingly enough it also looked and smelled like polyfibre.gutex, im almost convinced that its the same string
anyway, hitech and hot.stuff both are soft, hotstuff is softer
both strung easy, both felt about the same
the bad= both, hitech and hotstuff started moving after a few minutes of hitting,
i was hoping pp.hotstuff was a better string, and it did feel better than hitech, but just in the softer feel aspect, i dont like either due to how fast they started to move; and remeber its a 18/20 pattern (wilson.k.blade.tour), so you can just imagine what it would move like on a 16/19 open pattern racquet, not good, not a fan..

p.p.gutex.ultra did not move at first and/or was so minimal that i did not have to adjust, if any; pp.gutex.ultra is normally white/cream, yellowish in color at 16g, but ive ordered 17g and got the salmon.pink color{which im not liking, moves too much); anyway this string stretches most of all, even though its said to be pre-stretched,,

pp.superior.gut also did not move toomuch, slight movement towards the end, and/or about the same as pp.gutex.ultra; pp.superior.gut is low power multi, got a bit softer towards end of hit, but i kept going back to this racket after trying all the others,,
its white/pearl in color; no funny noticeable annoying smell, i like it!, its 1of3 pp.multis i like so far (pp.gutex, pp.pioneer, pp.superior.gut),

can anyone else comment on similar findings??
"

-hope this help you a bit
-btw, back in those days, pp.gutex was my goto cross string!!

The best about being a stringer is I could completely spoil myself and play with a fresh string bed or two every outing. Too bad it makes no difference on how terrible I play :-D

tempting just to see you do it. Most stringers wont string a stick that high
The first twenty times I flinched a bit. As I've noted before (earlier in this thread no less), there was a WTA pro who's played here a few times. I strung her frames at 86 with Lux ALU, either 1.25 or 1.38 depending on whether it was a live match or practice. To satisfy her feel, I actually had to let the Wise pull 86 and then let it sit for a count of 5. I learned that at 86 pounds, the pre-stretch function doesn't work. 86 is appears is an absolute limit on the Wise. I have no idea if the Mighty Sensor will add a pre-stretch at 88 pounds...

Make sure you are sitting down when you read the next line....

Sit down man...

You are right about the prestretch not working....but 86 is not an ABSOLUTE limit...its a practical one for sure...but if you pull the string while its being tensioned toward the 3 or 9 oclock position the numbers will exceed 86. IIRC it would spike somewhere in the 90s. So at leasts its read out can go above 86 even if it cant actually pull more. My Wise is filling an abuse case...I will win though because I will claim its like an M1A complaining about being shot at.
