Do you look at the ball when you serve? For how long?

Quick and simple question - when you serve, do you keep your head up, and look at the ball?

If you do, till how long? All the way till contact? Just for the toss, not for the swing? Do you throw it, then just look at where you're serving it to, and let your kinesthetic memory do the rest? Do you see your racquet actually hit the ball?

What's considered proper technique and what's considered personal preference?

As I'm a newbie member, I can't edit or close my double posted thread. Added to make my wording clearer and ended up putting it up twice. Oh well!

When you toss up, you want to look at the ball until you see your arm blur by. In essence you will not see the service box you are hitting to until you have already hit the ball.

This will help support an upward and outward serve motion, keep your head up, and eventually help improve your timing because your head is always in one position.
