Do you play in the winter?

For those that live in cold climate areas where its not feasible to play outside, do you play indoors much in the winter? If so, how often do you play and is it mostly block times, league matches, or pickup games? Do you do drills much or just play sets?
 
Yup, play lots indoor in clinics, lessons, and leagues.

Sun - 2 hour clinic
Mon - 1 hour shared lesson
Wed - 2 hour clinic
Thur - 2 hour clinic

Plus matches.
 
Only a fraction as often as the rest of the year. 5 years ago I played as much as I could in the winter, damn the consequences to my bank account from the court fees. But not anymore. Where I am, outdoor play ended in late October -- since then I've played maybe 4 times. Actually, I like the break. Gives me time to do other things, and when spring comes it's all the sweeter to get back on court.
 
To answer my own question, I usually play anywhere from 2-5 times a week during the winter, plus hit against a wall 2-3 times a week.

Once a week - singles match
1-2 times every 1-2 weeks - usta mixed match
Mon - doubles block
Thur - doubles block

No problem...

Each of the clinics is 37.50, with the exception of Thursday. That is, uh, free. *shhhhh*

I budget it in, just like any other expense.

Mixed matches are 16 each, others are 15 each.
 
If there's no snow and the temp breaks 40 I try to get out of there's sun to keep it a bit warmer. Other than that I'm starting tourney's soon so at least I'll have that to keep me occupied until "spring".
 
Indoor season here...

I usually play every day for most of the year but as stated with the weather here going nasty, that is significantly reduced. During the winter I have contract time for Sat and Sun mornings 2 hrs each day.

I sometimes squeeze in a third day if I can find agreeable partners. Rates are high ($51/hr) here but you save a lot by going with a contract (35wks @ $38/hr). I just save up for it during the summer season.

I'm a newb to tennis and picked it up by attending group drill/lessons indoor. Now I'm hooked on it so I'm going to have to join a club.......DOH!
 
in Arizona it's usually no problem at all to play in the winter and the weather is usually outstanding. It's been pretty chilly lately though. I played last night and had to wear a hoodie.
 
I play on Tuesdays in a doubles league; wednesday a 4 lady foursome lesson; on friday a 4 person mixed foursome lesson; try to play on the weekend with a social group. And, sometimes do drills on Thursday.

Jamauss - not all places in Arizona are warm! We just got 2 1/2 feet of snow! I've been shoveling for days and I don't think I can play outside!

I play indoors during the winter. It ain't cheap.

I try to limit my playing time to 2-3 times per week, maybe 2 hours each session.

On average, I spend about $50-60 per week on court time. It sure adds up fast.
 
I play mostly outdoors unless it drops below 35 (must also be sunny and not overlast). Anything below and I either don't play or try to get an indoor court. We have 6 here and it's 45-50 per hour. I either opt for a lesson, or for doubles mostly - about once per week.

So, drastic decrease in playing time.
 
i play out doors on hard courts and acrylic all the time....this is because my club doesnt have any indoor courts.
 
I play 3 to 5 times a week during the winter. I have a weekly singles league, another singles group that averages me playing every other week, a few other people where we hit on a regular basis, and some doubles leagues where I play when asked.

The one club that I belong to has high monthly dues but really low court fees ($13/hour per court - indoors) so playing a lot makes the monthly dues less painful. Later at night, I can book 1.5 hours for singles that cost us $9.75 but we can usually play at least 2 hours since the place is sort of empty. The club doesn't like people walking on without paying but once you are on, they don't seem to say anything about running over as long as the courts are open or it isn't too late.

Not cheap! Sounds like you spend well over $100/week depending on how many matches you play.

I don't know...37.50 for two hours of play is pretty cheap around here, anyway. Yes, I know what I spend, and I would rather pay and play then be without tennis over the winter! :)

Because of it, though, I haven't played many matches...our fall leagues are 'for fun', and often too late at night for me. I figure I'll save all of that for the regular season.
 
Our temperature here is probably nothing to you guys in the East coast and snowy regions, but I do play outdoors throughout the winter - if it gets below 45 at night usually the courts are completely open all evening. I play as long as the courts aren't wet and slippery :)
 
Indoor court time is pretty pricey, so I play only if the temp gets into the 40s and only if the court is clear and dry. And if it's not too windy. The sun helps, but it also causes us to alter the game a bit. Since the sun is so low in the sky, we switch courts every game so we are always serving to the north.
