Do you think this to protect my hands would mess up my tennis?

Let me know what you think. I want to purchase these to protect my hands from sun damage, and dont want toxic sunblock on my hands that will eventually sweat off.

They look awful, but most importantly, the finger straps look like they would cause blisters. I wouldn't chance it.

Don't take this as an offense. Are you actually wearing those when you are out? I know some places in the world the ozone layer has gone to nil. Is that where you live now?

No problem buddy. I'm very aware of sun damage no matter where you live, because tennis players are especially exposed for long periods of time. I have not worn them yet, but I will buy them and try them. At the least I can use them while walking the dog. I already wear a full long sun protection outfit, and the hands are the only area exposed.

I love being as healthy as can be

since i grip my racquet like pros, very light, i dont think it will cause any blisters.

You'd look an utter sket as well.

if utter sket means, super healthy, then thanks

Why not get non-toxic sunblock, Mr. Fear Monger?

i have plenty of the organic stuff nice guy. please come again

Then why not, you will get used to it. But it may hinder your swing because of the resistance of the air. Like running with an open umbrella. How about just wear some special gloves?

No offense but if you have the need to take all this measurment to avoid the same sun that is in contact with the rest of the human kind, then you may not be as healthy as you think.

yeah buddy, Im thinking about gloves, but i want my hands touching the grip as much as possible.

Just go out and play tennis at night.

haha , hey at night? dam its going to be hard to find a tournament for that, but i can opt for only indoor events, but not much in the summer

i beg to differ with you. the less sun i get on the court over the years will be less skin cancer when im older. im thinking long term

That is a probability, however that does not completely free you out of skin cancer nor any other cancer type, is good to be preventive as long as it doesnt become a "health" problem. You should be more carefull while crossing a traffic light in you car. JMO.

haha

well, i love being much healthier then 99% of the human population

You are not really being healthy if you aren't getting vitamin D from the sun. There are a number of studies now correlating low vitamin D levels with a number of different cancers. Healthy levels of vitamin D are difficult to obtain through diet alone.

Just this month, in an internal medicine journal, a study has found that for men in their 40s, low vitamin D levels are a better marker of heart attack (much better) than cholesterol. Hiding from the sun sounds like paranoia rather than concern about health.

i agree, and i get my 15 min a day, as i lay buck naked on my lawn.

when playing tennis im out there 2hr +, sometimes i have to play 2 matches a day, and 1 doubles. so a long day at a tournament may be 5hrs of singles, and 2hrs of doubles, THATS 7 HOURS.

so I know im being smart for long tern protection, as the study says 15 min a day of sun, not hours

OK, that's reasonable. Your hands, like your face, tend to get more sunshine than they need in any case. Still, those things seem like they'd catch wind like parachutes and mess with your swing. Gloves would probably make more sense.

One old guy I sometimes play wears racquetball gloves.

With those you can moonlight as a a driver in Japan or Korea. But, hey, if you can play with them on go for it. Just curious, are you wearing long sleeves and long pants too?

You haven't seen his other posts, have you? Look on the Post Pic of Apparel thread.

hey! moonlight as a a driver in Japan or Korea? sounds like a bad movie

yes i wear the long sleeves and long pants. the outfit is used by ultra marathoners in the desert, so its made with vents all over and since it reflects the sun so well, its actually very cool. the pants i cut with scissors just below the knee for extra air flow, and just pull my socks up.

This has to be one of the most rediculous threads I have ever read. This guy seems to be a bit OCD about the sun and his exposure to it. You might as well quite tennis and anything else outside until they come up with a protective bubble that you can live in...
...oh wait you already do live in one.
My prediction is that you will get skin cancer or some other illness before 90% of the people here because you try to over protect your body from things you think are bad for you. What acutally ends up happening is that you weaken your body's natural defenses to these things and are worse off for it.
What doen't kill you makes you stronger. :)

my plan is that your very wrong. the sun is very powerful, and damaging to the skin over time. tennis players need to take as much precaution as they can. im just ahead of the curve, and ahead of your time. in 20 years everyone will be doing what im doing. dont let your anger get the best of your spelling

this is insane and there is no way you would spend 7 hours on court a day during a tourny unless your a super pusher. if you wear non-toxic sun screen at least you will get tan making it less easier to burn. therefore helping prevent a melanoma?

First of all, this behavior is NOT OCD. OCD is marked by an overwhelming obsession (a pervasive thought) coupled with a series of behaviors (compulsions) relating to the obsession. A diagnosis for OCD must involve a significant impairment in the individual's daily life relating to the obsessions or compulsions. The difference between OCD and the poster's behavior relating to his concerns about sun damage is that individuals with OCD recognize the absurdity of their obsessions and compulsions but have no control over them. In this case, the OP has some measure of control in that he could choose to use sunscreen in place of full body protection.

I'm not saying that the OP is incorrect in his belief that overexposure to the sun can cause skin damage over time. However, we must take into account the degree to which he avoids the sun. This overwhelming, pervasive desire to avoid any sun exposure over 15 minutes per day coupled with the fact that high SPF sunscreen has been proven to prevent skin damage does qualify as abnormal behavior. However, abnormal is where it stops; it cannot be categorized as a psychological disorder.

Anyway, that being my take on the topic... I admire the OP's desire to remain healthy and live as long as possible, but like anything, it must be done in moderation or it becomes unhealthy.

To the OP... without an interview, I can't and won't make any assumptions about you or the life you lead. That being said, your behavior to ensure the health of your body may lead to the disintegration of the health of your mind. As a small step, start wearing sunscreen (as high SPF as you would like) instead of dressing like a traditional Muslim woman when outside and recognize that the human body has evolved over millions of years and developed defenses against environmental hazards like the sun.

Just for the record I think the OP is correct that his getup will one day take over tennis. How can it not when it so deadly?

your a very strange person.... go to any dermatologist, they will all tell you that plenty of high spf sunblock will do just fine, and there is plenty of sweat resistant sun screen

^ OP where are you from?
I dont think anyone would suggest or implement your set up unless they are playing tennis on the planet venus

The OP is actually doing himself a great disservice. No one really will take him seriously with that get up. Also he mentioned to me that in 20 years everyone will be doing what he is. To that I have to say never. I would rather die from skin cancer than have to wear this crap on the courts. At least I would die happy.

I think you should try playing tennis in ONLY those mitts, and wearing nothing else. That will help balance out the fact that your hands have achieved much more sun exposure over your lifetime than any other part of your body. After all, balance is very important. Plus, the tan lines will be sweet.

Incidentally, what are you using to protect your face?

The sun/weather/environment is something a tennis player will definitely have to be able to endure, not evade.

I don't mean "Go out and burn your butt off in the sun all afternoon"

But just put some regular sunblock (if you have sensitive skin, pharmacies have a lot of different PH leveled sunblock to help you) and go hit it out in the courts.

Really.

dude come on those arnt mits there like umbrellas for your hands, seriously tennis is meant to be played IN the sun.

This is a ridiculous idea. Why not just use the Persian archers' arrows from 300 to blot out the sun. Then you can play in the shade.
