Does anyone actually like Borna Coric?

Nadalgaenger

G.O.A.T.
I find little redeeming about the guy. What do you think?

He behaved like a complete s#$% today and was booed off court.

Why does he always wear a dirty cap to the side? Is it made of leather?

His tattoo apparently says: "There is nothing worse than being ordinary." Whatever, bro.

His game has no flair. He is a poor man's Djokovic.

I hope that this guy never beats Zverev or Thiem in slam finals. Kyrgios infinitely more likable than him!

Just my humble opinion.

Yeah, I think initially, a bunch of Djokovic fans figured he'd be a nice heir apparent. Things haven't panned out quite as planned, despite the profound humility!

He's certainly worked on that physique. The price to be paid is in the roid rages. :(

Glad to see someone else noticed the crooked hat thing. Its always slightly off…sort of annoying.

His tennis style is like a mini Djokovic's and I personally don't find that interesting.

Also, try listening to some of Coric's interviews. He's basically dense. He was asked tennis history questions and he didn't know about Laver and his records. WTH?

The positive thing about Coric is that he seems to be a hard worker.

Sounds like a lot of people we've all encountered here lol

He's actually quite a nice young man, or was when I interacted with him. Although I never held anything against a player when they are competing. Today he was up 5-2 in that final set and lost. I've seen many players destroy racquets or scream at the fans (even ones lauded for making their first Major Main Draw recently :) ) in the similar situations, unless your there, playing under the same pressure at that level, how can you trueky understand. He was the number one player in the world as a Junior. So was Kyrios, Zverev, Fritz, & Theim.
He's coming back after having some struggles lately, he's young, cut him some slack.

Indeed, Coric is a basic athletic pusher without much of a personality. A bland and insipid guy throughout. Don't like him, don't hate him, just meh, disinterested. He's not good enough to be at the top, so no danger of his image occupying the big stage.

Maybe if he pumped his fist now and then and yelled out "Vamos!", you'd be more interested?

There was a player on the Serbian Davis Cup team that I thought was Coric for a while. He looked like a matured Coric. I figured that I was watching him after an off season growth spurt.

Edit: I just did Google search and that Davis Cup player is actually on the Croatian team. I often get Serbia and Croatia mixed up because they used to be one nation.

There's a difference between being a d*ck and an unhappy child. D*cks are mean and obnoxious towards people. Children are just generically angry and cause a mess when they don't get their way.

OK so both of them are unhappy child at that age. Don't be too harsh with Coric, he's just 20.

^^ Pretty much this. At first a lot of Djoker fans (myself included) heard ND praise Coric's game as similar to his own and started paying attention hoping he was a young Ultron heir. But... very quickly (like watching 1-2 matches) we all realized his talent is NOT special. He's a watered down, pretender version of Djokovic. Not a poor man's Djokovic, he's like a homeless man's Djokovic. He's never going to be anything.

For Djokovic fans looking for a "young Djokovic" the closest you're going to get to Sasha Zverev. Yes i know the height makes him a bit slower but so far he's overcome it. His groundstrokes are quite similar to Djoker (at times)

I see similarities too. Both have deep, penetrating, and highly accurate groundstrokes from the baseline.

Zverev should continue to model his game on Djokovic's. What he lacks in speed and defense he can perhaps make up with offensive firepower and of course serve.

Did you see what he did on match point today?

Yes. Obviously it's not cool but he's still young and should be given some sympathy. Sometime we're too harsh or too biased.

Safin broke more than 500 racquets throug hall his career, people call him mainly, a man with character... Djokovic broke a racquet and he's a barbarian.

How about Baghdatis? He's still a cool guy... right?

I dont recommend players act like Coric, but Coric should not be crucified for that incident - No? :D

I get sick of the constant Ana Ivonovic fist pumps. Geez, his opponent could miss a FH sitter and he's back there fist pumping. Like others have mentioned, his humility in next to nothing. He loves to talk about his grandiose dreams, but none of those visions are playing out on the tennis court. It's going to be pretty tough for him to be a top 5 player, but we will see. To me he is more similar to a player like Ferrer. Good mover and fighter with no real weapons. Ferrer is one tough customer though. What he did with his skill set was/is amazing!

Sasha just needs to incorporate more QWOP movement skills and he'll bring all the Djokovic fans to the yard.

I was fortunately off work today and was sifting through the 4 directtv channels I taped today and when I got to this match with Stevie J. vs. B. Coric, the highly tense nature of the match called my immediate attention. Of course I knew about S. Johnson 's father dying a couple of weeks ago rather unexpectedly and all that, but the dynamic out there late in the match was super tense. You had Johnson emotionally tweaked out and in the verge of throwing his racket very close to the linesman/ball kids. He was like channeling all his emotions/focus on winning this match...

Then, that judgement call the chair made against Johnson on like his 3rd match point where after an incredible point when Johnson barely missed a deft volley by Coric and rather softly hit the ball upwards out of the court and the chair gave em a point penalty since Johnson already destroyed a racket earlier which put it to Ad. Coric...

Although I agreed with Johnson in that the timing of that decision was egregiously poor and the chair should have let it go and NOT have given the unsportsmanlike conduct pt. penalty, if you were Coric and ahead like 4-1 in the set and now facing match pts. and your opponent stopped play for more than 5 minutes to summons the head umpire dude, you'd be pissed too.

Although anyone could get teary eyed just watching the end, I give Coric a pass for acting like a child at the end.

This what was I thought too. Johnson took his time, very long time. I got annoyed with Johnson, can understand Corics frustration.

He was quoted in an interview a while back saying that if you're not the best in the world at something, there's little point doing it. Might be time for him to retire.
I like what I've seen of this young guy. Today was a really bad day for him.

Is he going to be a future top 10 player?

Seems unlikely at this time.

I think I'm a pretty intelligent guy, but when I think of the dumb covfefe I spewed at his age, it makes me pretty tolerant.

He's actually a pretty good looking kid, but I wonder why he always has the awful haircuts? Let the hair grow out a bit. His head is often close to shaved.

Thiem and Dimitrov also broke some racquets in their career, but still darlings of this place, one has big buttock and can wack the ball hard continuously , the other considered as handsome in general. I belive Coric abs and biceps will find the way to TTW warriors hearts.

About incident , yeah it was ugly outburst from Borna, guy was up in decider, lost his temper , not the first , not the last one . About Steve situation and his emotional status , I can relate with him and feel for him, but Coric is not obliged to know details.

The timing wasn't as much of a problem as the call itself. The timing just made it that much worse, like the umpire was paid to help Coric or at least had a friend bet on the match for him. He gets called for ball abuse when he tapped a ball back to the other side of the net. If that were the case, everyone should be getting penalized everytime they ask the ball kids for the ball to hit the ball over to the other side (which is a very common thing). They should also get penalized for tapping the balls away from them or towards the ball kids to make everyone's life easier. It's like penalizing a guy for sweeping of the lines on a clay court with your shoe. You only do it if you're really out to get the guy and have nothing else you could possibly call on them.

Both Zverev and Coric now have a sense of entitlement. They have beaten members of the B4 so they think they've arrived and Coric has not lived up to the award of Future Star he won in 2015. Zverev has been labelled Future #1 and he is desperate to live up to that. The ATP is not doing these young players any favours by putting them on a pedestal, they have a long way to go. I agree with Rafa that Zverev should concentrate on improving his game rather than seeking a re-match with him.

JMac did a funny take last night on the virus that is affecting Djokovic, Murray and Zverev; past, present and future number 1s. Once they've achieved their goals, they decline. Djokovic winning RG, Murray getting to #1 and Zverev,(?). McEnroe says Federer and Nadal are immune to that virus.
