Does anyone else find it really difficult to imagine Nadal grinding his way to quarterfinal/semifinal losses at the French Open for several years?

I just cannot see him competing at the tournament for like 4 or 5 years not winning the title, even though, that has been the normal career trajectory of any ALL TIME GREAT at their favorite Grand Slam.

Are you saying Nadal is going to lose in the QF/SF?
On what planet do you live?
Nadal has dropped a total of THREE sets in the last FOUR French Opens!
And Nadal-Thiem have played THIRTEEN sets at Roland Garros, with Thiem only winning ONE set.
Unless Nadal reverts to 2015 version (zero confidence, zero forehand), nobody can beat him.

Field has to hope something declines physically. His defence is still unreal, it would take another Soderling performance to beat him. Maybe Thiem can win 2 sets this way but I can never see him getting over the finish line.

Sunday has probably bought him 3 more FOs. Next year players will be in even more awe. Year after they will still be in awe but sets may be dropped then in 2023 he may grind out a last title before Sinner and Musetti then duke it out thereafter.

NObody can beat Nadal at FO because nobody hits as hard as Soderling and nobody hits like Soderling because they were raised on 100 racquets and poly strings. Everybody under 10 should play with a 85 Pro Staff.

I think Sinner hits as hard as Soderling.
So does Thiem, but Thiem also plays defensive tennis.
Anyway I've seen better versions of Nadal than 2009, so it wasn't all about Soderling, and he still needed a tiebreak in the 4th Set....
And Nadal has beaten Soderling THREE times at Roland Garros, and all of them were in straight sets.

Only losing three sets in the last 4 RGs. It’s just really hard to picture him losing 3 sets in one match , He can win 2-3 more titles.
It goes fast as you age and small differences make all the difference.

He could have very well won his last slam. He could win 5+ or more. Hard to say.

I just watched Nadal-Sinner and Nadal-Soderling on YT and there is no comparison. Soderling is clubbing winners from deep behind the baseline. Nadal's shots land deeper against Soderling. Nadal was simply a much more explosive player back then. There is no comparison. The conclusion is obvious: tennis is regressing.
