This is one of my favorite racquets to hit with from the past. Great balance and a wonderful sweetspot/power. As I recall, the graphite pro and the composite pro had a very short production cycle in the late 80's.
Those two models were available from 1986 (1985 in Europe IIRC) through 1988. In 1989, the model names were co-opted to use in thinbeamed, "power wedge" semi-widebodies that only shared the head size and stringing pattern with the earlier moulds of Graphite and Comp Pros. This is one of my favorite racquets to hit with from the past. Does anyone know that Head Graphite Pro offers 4 7/8 grip size? I saw an ad that states the grip size is 4 7/8. I left a message to the seller asking if a couple of sleeves were added to increase the size by 2 (from 4 5/8) but have not received a response.
Composition: Graphite (60%), Fiberglass (35%) and Twaron (5%)
Here we go..

I have a U.S. model (black with C.A.P). It's tough on my shoulder because of its heavy swing weight. The racket appears to be head heavy? However, the racket can definitely smack the ball hard to the other side of the court. I prefer the Head Comp tour as it is more gentle to my arm. This is one of my favorite racquets to hit with from the past. Great balance and a wonderful sweetspot/power.
Bummer! can you get them back from the pawn shop?
I was referring to the black one. It is very solid and can really crush the ball. However, both my shoulder and arm get tired after about half-hour play.Which Graphite Pro are you guys referring to? As far as I know, there were 3 variants:
Green/Turquoise (used by David Wheaton)
Black
Brown
I have the Green/Turquoise and a Black one and they are very different. The Green/Turquoise is much more flexible. The Black one is awesome--very solid and comfortable and you just feel like you're crushing the ball.

Only the Graphite Pro (600) TF from 1989-1990 had Twaron fiber. The ones that look like this.

TXP is a Prestige.
Comp Pro is the GP mold and is really nice and flexy. I actually serve better with the Comp than my Elite Pro as it seems to come around quicker.
These are the two US version of the Graphite Pro.There are two blacks which Ive seen, one that has the same design of the turquiose one but with the grey trim and another full pitch black., which may have been an European Version. Where there two revisions of the Graphite Pro? Which one was the brown one?
I have played with the latter one all black, no grey, 355 grams or so, just around my other Prestiges, but it was a completely different animal. Too easy power, I swing fast, which is why I use Prestige level, and headlight racquets so I can produce my own power and topspin, even on a 90. But this animal felt head heavy to me, even though it weighs the same or about my other racquets. Was hard to swing, even "relaxed" I was sailing everything as if it was shot from a bazooka. I appreciate the racquet but it was unplayable for me.
Does the Turquoise play more headlight?
Are the Comp Pro, Comp Tour, and TXP more like this or more like the Prestiges (headlights)? Also been wondering to try these sticks.
I used to play with the green version; it was awesome at the time, not sure I could do it justice now
I just bought an almost new Head Composite Director a few weeks ago. The racquet is essentially new. Zero rash anywhere, grommets in great shape etc.
It plays amazingly well. I am now scurrying around trying to locate a few others.
Awesome! I remember this racquet well from back in the 80s. Back then, I played with a TXD, which I think is the same mold but much stiffer than the Comp Dir. Just love these old Head racquets.
Hahahahahaha! Guess that guy also believes in Santa Claus.I have been using it as my main racquet since i got it. Some people look at me like wtf? One guy said to me "hey you know racquets have changed a lot in the last 30 years, you should upgrade" ...
Finally got around to hitting with the Graphite Professional with Syn Gut. Now I am starting to understand the love for these old Head frames![]()
If you love the graphite pro but wish it was bigger then you would love the head graphite master ! It’s the same frame but just a tad softer and I mean just a couple pts but it’s a 102 head size . Plays more like a 99 or 100 mid plus .. the balance is just a tad more head heavy but not much at all..
these old head series came in 89.5 inch and 102 sq inch .. and they have similar weights flex and SW..
for me the graphite pro and masters versions are the best playing frames ever produced .. ever .. they have a frame for virtually any type of player man or women . Except juniors but that’s it. Good luck and pick up
A masters . You will love it ! And you can find them all the time and the cheap !
That Graphite Pro along with all other Graphite Pro's are 89.5sq.in. What you want is simply is the HEAD Graphite Master. Thanks this is exactly the info I needed. It makes sense that an old Head 102" in reality would be about 99". Is there any particular iteration you'd recommend? I'm a bit confused: the Graphite Pro I refer to is this one: https://www.olx.ro/oferta/5-rachete...ad-graphite-pro-mid-plus-630-cm2-ID30gRT.html (late 80's) While if I google Head Master 660 I find 40% graphite frames that appears to be quite different looking (more recent?) and with a more modern mold.
What?? Really ? Becker ? With head I had no idea .. which one was it ? Any pics ?88 Graphite Pro with the tapared beam could have been the Boris Becker frame at that time!!! Was developed with and for him but contract was never been made due to different meanings about Sponsoring activities. He played this at Showmatches in 1988 (one against Connors)
The Graphite Pro TF WITHOUT the power wedge was designed/ developed for Boris Becker. There was 2 designs of the Graphite Pro TF, one early in 1989 and one later/second half of 1989 with the Power Wedge. The added wider tip or Power Wedge was done because of the popularity of Widebidy designs back then.88 Graphite Pro with the tapared beam could have been the Boris Becker frame at that time!!! Just picked a teal Graphite pro up mid at the goodwill... yay! kinda beat up but grommets are in good shapeMy first serious tennis racquet. I came home one day and couldn't find it. Someone at my house, who wishes to remain anomynous, took all the old tennis racquets that no one was currently using and pawned them!! I was very upset. This person was like "You never hit with it anymore". I can't imagine they got more than a dollar a piece for them.
Also included in that 'robbery' were: Prince Jr. Classic (aluminum w/ green plastic), Wilson Pro Staff Ceramic, and the head competition Pro. All very cool. I miss them still.
Nice!!! I loved the sound it made on a big serve. I suppose most flexible players sticks make that sound, but still, that racquet has great feel and tons of control. Good Find. I found one at a Goodwill, too...and brought it up to the counter and realize it was cracked, so I left it there. I personally liked the black ones with the blocky graphics....very atari, very 80's.Just picked a teal Graphite pro up mid at the goodwill... yay! kinda beat up but grommets are in good shape
If you lived close I’d give you one of mine as every head graphite pro user in the past still needs one or two around to feel it . Feel what tennis should feel like !I wish...it was like back in '96. By the time I had found out, it was too lateThey had sold them for 5 bucks a piece. I suppose i could get one off of somebody here on the boards.
Amazing spin potential from this frame even with ancient syn gut strings... balls hit the ground and take off plus it volleys like a dream. It is a great stick.Just picked a teal Graphite pro up mid at the goodwill... yay! kinda beat up but grommets are in good shape
They made amazing racquets. Did you get an Austrian or USA made one?Just picked a teal Graphite pro up mid at the goodwill... yay! kinda beat up but grommets are in good shape
