The US Open is shaping up to be his best Slam by far, with one win (so far) and at least three finals. However, the Russian has also reached two finals Down Under, and he is clearly one of the two or three best players on hard courts in the world right now.

But does that translate to a title? After all, Novak doesn't look to be going away gracefully anytime soon, as some expect from a veteran, and Melbourne is his yearly picnic. Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas both seem to enjoy the fine weather there, as well.

So, does Daniil Medvedev end his career with a Happy Slam trophy in his cabinet?

I don’t think he will. I think when Djokovic retires the AO courts will benefit Sinner the most, not Alcaraz

Medvedev will be 28. Sinner will be 22 and Alcaraz will be almost 21
Alcaraz can’t win every year. He’s gonna get injured. Gonna have bad years. Even a goat like Djokovic only won what, 10 or so times? He’s been pro for minimum 16 years, and he’s probably been the most blessed pro athlete in any sport with not getting random **** injuries. There’s gotta be someone winning in between. Even a possible future goat will still likely get hurt more than Djokovic. Call it freak luck or anything, it’s not normal to be competing at the level he is and healthy as much as him.

I can't believe there are still people who drop a number like 28 as if it's near the end of a career and not somewhere in the middle.

It's about winning ONE time by the way. Alcaraz and Sinner may be better than him at the AO, but that doesn't mean there won't be chances in some year.

On top of all the other reasons that people have mentioned, it's pretty clear that he just straight up isn't as dangerous an opponent on the less lively AO surface as he is in New York. The conditions at USO simply accentuate his game to a far greater degree.

My gut feeling is that Alcaraz is coming out of the gate strong to win Australia next year.

After that we're looking at 2025 or later for a 29+ year old Medvedev, and I don't think his window of opportunity to win slams is going to extend into his 30s with his playstyle.
Lol...

Middle of a career doesn't mean the middle of his realistic chances to win a Bo5 major.

Unless you're the Big 3, players who hang around into their mid to late 30s are just doing it for the paycheck or love of the game, but their window has long been closed.

He has realistically 2 more chances to do it. I wouldn’t say it’s entirely unthinkable. He’s done well here except for the disastrous finals he’s been a part of. If he’s not facing a Djokovic or a good Carlos in the final stages, I think he has a decent shot.

Although it is possible that Daniil is in a slightly different category because he started winning at such a late date.

Exactly, once Joker is gone, it doesn’t mean Carlos will win everything. Plenty of opportunities for other guys to win, especially Medvedev.

I just don't see him winning later in his career when his style relies so much on his athleticism to cover ground. Especially for a man that tall. The injuries will come and they will slow him down. And once that happens, he doesn't exactly have the firepower to make up for it. Grinding your opponents down is a young man's game.
