The field is wide open and the big 3 are aging. Dominic Thiem was once tapped to be one of their successors and finally managed to bag a Slam in their absence in 2020. After his wrist injury left him on the sidelines for months, however, and his comeback has been tentative, do you still see Thiem as a Slam winner?

No.
He has a matchup problem with every mainstream player younger than him, but was overcoming them so far until 2020 based on sheer physicality & yet lost many matches. Now that he's lost his edge, I don't think he's good enough to beat Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Berretini etc.

Thiem is finnish. a devastating wrist injury to a ohbh is game over. look at del po, guy could barely recover from a wrist injury to his non-dominate hand that screwed his backhand.

The only reason Them won 1 slam was because Zverev choked like a whining little weasel and couldn't serve it out or hold onto a two set lead.

So no, it's extremely unlikely Domi ever gets close to winning another major.

17 titles in a six year span, only 28yo coming into tail of Nole and Rafa careers. Think there's a reasonable chance he can do it again one time.

I saw him last week at Kitzbühel Open (lost to Hanfmann in 3)
My guess is that he will not reach the Top10 again (he was spreading BHs and FHs like hell). Only his serve kept him in play for 3 sets, that was impressive). No chance against any Spanish/Italian grinder at the moment...
Hopefully he had only a bad day, but I doubt it...
Most of his errors were out not by some cms, but by 1 or 2 meters (believe or not:eek:).

Definitely, he'll win more slams than Djokovic between now and Djokovic's retirement :happydevil:

Perhaps, in time. At the moment, he needs to stick at what he's doing, get more and more used to the training, practice, travel, routines, matches etc. and try to get back in a good run of form. There's been the odd good sign in recent weeks and it might be tough for a while yet, but he has to stick at it.

No, and let's face it, he only won the USO because Djokovic was disqualified and Zverev is a choker.
USO 2020 was a disgusting Slam final after sets 1 & 2. Atleast in first 2 sets, Sascha was displaying some agression and blasting Thiem off the courts. But oh my God!! Set 5, horrible horrible.

I’ve watched most of his comeback matches and he has improved a lot in the last month. He will be in contention provided his wrist is healthy. His one handed bh has not been effected by his wrist injury. He has been absolutely crushing it down the line. He just needs more matches.

Unfortunately I think No - would love to see him win more slams though as I'm a huge fan but I'm not optimistic about it

Sorry, but I think not.

Yes he will win Roland Garros before he retires. And maybe Australian Open. So he'd end up having a similar career to Wawrinka.

I chose yes because I think he can, but I also think it is a very slim chance in current form.

EDIT to add: This is thinking back to Agassi, though a bit different story, still similar.

I think that ship has sailed sadly. I wish he could've won a RG title, if he was on the Stefanos/Zverev section of the draw in 2021, an in form Tim could've beaten Djokovic in the finals.

he is capable of winning, only time will tell how well he manages to get out of this slump.....he has the experience of being in slam finals which will always help shoukd he somehow reach one in two years time.....
