Does grip size matter?

hello,

I am supposed to have a 4 3/8 grip size but I've been playing with a 4 1/2 for the past 1.5 years unknowingly. Would it benefit me to switch to a 4 3/8?

Plenty of people prefer larger or recently more smaller grips, there are pros and cons of both but if you are comfortable with 4 1:2 than I don’t see a reason to change.

Slightly larger grips will help with stability and I’ve heard larger grips help protect from injury. Whereas smaller helps generate more topspin but can lead to more injury if too small. I doubt there would be a significant difference either way from 1/2 to 3/8

Depends on your game. There is no absolute answer. IF you want to try out what a 4 ⅜ feels like on your existing racquet, change out the grip with a Tourna Pro Thin Replacement grip. [Not the Tourna Pro Thin Tour which is different! }

Don’t think you need to change at this stage if all is okay?
In any case you can give the L3 a go and see how you like it.

Grip too small causes tennis elbow, too big and it causes wrist and hand issues. If you’re not feeling any such discomfort means the size is right for you,

i've found that grip shape also matters to me. grip size doesn't matter that much on a square-shaped grip but i've come across a couple rectangular shaped czech heads that were more comfortable when i moved down a size.

Everyone swings and plays differently so the only way to know is to try out a 4 3/8 grip size and see if you like it. In general the best size would be the one you can hold comfortably without gripping tightly.

Maybe I’m an idiot, but I have never really cared about grip size. I have several different rackets with all sorts of different grip sizes, and I just deal with em. If it feels super small I just add more over grips.

Get a volkl and all the pallets from 1-5 and try them all

I did enjoy playing with a Roddick XL grip 2
Huge serve and forehand no backhand but who cares

Yes, grip size does matter especially if your wrist needs stability that a larger grip would provide and you are wary of arm injuries. Smaller grips off course if your game requires end range flexibility.

As users have posted the only way to tell is to try different sizes and see. Generally, the smaller the grip the easier it is to turn the racquet face and get more spin. The larger the grip (up to a point) will provide more stability and I find fewer blisters and callouses. Other ways of getting more spin is to play with a bigger headed racquet, more open string pattern, more flexible racquet, and generally poly strings though I can hit with big enough topspin with synthetic or natural gut.

It’s a personal preference in which the user must experiment with two diff grip sizes side by side. Only the user can determine preference. So any answers from other posters on this thread are futile

I think there is a range where any player would be fine. For most it's around 2 different sizes. I can easily play with most L3 and L4 grips. I tend to double overgrip the smaller L3's and put a thinner single overgrip on the larger L4's.

But if you give me an L2 or L5, I feel totally off. L2 feels like a pencil and L5 feels like a cucumber.

The grip reduces your grip size by 1, but also is super light (6g) and will require a bit of lead to keep a similar weight/balance. Wrap about 4 grams around the pallet just above the butt cap and 4 more at the top of the grip. You can then see for yourself how you like 1 size smaller.
